Assuming Philip goes within the next 2 years (which isn't in itself a certainty), I think QEII will live for at least another decade BUT we should probably start putting her on the List circa 2025. People need to get this nonsense out of their head about Philip dying then the Queen suddenly going down hill afterwards. For much of the year they're separated, and more so lately given Philip's retirement from public life. She did have a life prior to him and she will have one after him, regardless of length of marriage. Her focus has always been on service to her country, hence why I don't believe she will abdicate. She'd rather make Charles "Prince Regent" before doing that, whereby he fulfils all of her duties but she remains monarch in name. One of my friends used to be a butler for the Royals (no it isn't bloody Paul Burrell) and one thing he always stressed to me was the resilience of Her Majesty. She lost her father at a young age, and in the last two decades has watched as those from both the generation above her (the Queen Mother, Auntie Alice etc) and her own generation (friends, cousins, bridesmaids) have all passed away. She's always felt deep sorrow as such but springs back all the same. She's come to expect Philip's death for a long while now. He's been hospitalised on numerous occasions. I sincerely doubt that when he turned 90 she expected him to be around for another decade. She'll be very grateful that he's still by her side but by now she would have also come to terms with the fact that he likely won't be around for a great deal longer. She'll go on and in mid–2024 she'll become the longest reigning sovereign monarch in world history. And if other users are skeptical about my forecast, they only need to go back to April 2018 in this thread, when I said Philip will reach his centenary. That was 32 months ago. He's only got 6 to go. Most on here bet on him being gone ages ago. Never write the Royals off easily. They don't get a cold then suddenly they're dead. The general rules: Send me 50 main team names by pm or just post them in this thread, if you want, from now on until Dec 31st 2020, 23:59 GMT. You can choose one joker with double points - and you can also submit up to five substitutes in case one of your 50 dies before the end of the submission window. You may also choose new subs before the game starts if they die. Submission form: Just give them in the normal "First name", "Last name" format You don't need to number them before! No need to give birthdays! And only note their claim to fame if there might be confusion, for example: Kamala Harris (wrestler) - Update 2020: Well, this one is dead. Kamala Harris (US senator) - Update 2020: Well, this one is soon president. The scoring is [year of birth] - 1900 = score. So someone born in 2001 will get 101 points in case of death You may submit the following people: living, not having set a precise date of death (by execution, dignitas, or whatever), at least 18 years old on the beginning of January 1st, 2021, and being somewhat notable. "Somewhat notable" means: they should at least be notable for something else aside from being terminally ill. "Something else" being something that has an effect on society. Terminally ill activists are okay if they've done at least something generally beneficial, a campaign, a book, or a winning court case. If they're only in the news because of their tragedy or because they need our sympathy I will not accept them. So no "cancer mums with cancer kids", no "terminally ill fans", no "ordinary person in a coma because of a car crash". Anyway, I will allow them. Substitution phase: On the 1st of July 2021 GMT you may switch 5 old people still alive for 5 new ones for whom all the above rules also apply. When is a hit a hit: If the person permanently dies in 2021 (GMT!) and their death gets noticed in written form by qualifying media outlets within 2021 or the first seven days of 2022. Remember, the disqualification in some cases might come only after the DDP committee has decided, so maybe not before the 2nd week of January. Hi everyone The DDP 2021 has launched and having been through the entry process last time I know the things that take me time where you lot can help. If you can all spend a little time following these instructions on your own entries (maximum 3 to deal with) then you can all save me time on the 4 to 500 entries I will have to input. Many of you provide a lot of helpful well intentioned detail in your entries with the plan that it makes my life easier but the reality is that because you have no insight to the process in actual fact it adds tasks that are unnecessary if you could present in a different way. Format Popular Misspells Additional Information and best way to Provide Ultimately (and I'm not after sympathy here) it took between 70 and 80 hours to input all the entries last year and if the DDP is to continue to find volunteers to do these tasks this process needs to become less time consuming - it may be that in the future we can find system process changes that will reduce the time required but they need to be free and right now we aren't there. So please have a read of the posts below and try and follow the advice. In each post I'll try and explain how the process works on my side so you understand why I am asking you to present your entry/check your spellings. Popular Spelling Mistakes and How to Present Certain Names the DDP Way Basically for a pick to be recognised by the DDP database every name needs entered in a uniform way. So every spelling variation away from this needs amended whether a simple spelling mistake or the fact that there are sometimes many variations of writing the same persons name. Qaboos etc last time was a classic where there were about 20 variations of entry and all needed converted to one name. Now I can't address the new names this year because that is sharing information from people's picks but I think it is reasonable to share the correct DDP way that matches the Database for some very popular historical picks as follows:- Prince Philip - note one L Queen Elizabeth II - not The Queen or Queen Elizabeth or Elizabeth Windsor Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI - this is one of those that has so many variations but this is what they all get changed to I'll add to this list as I start going through entries and remind myself - it's only the popular names that make a difference - each of you taking time to spell basic names correctly though does save me time on each entry. As above to do this for your entries means doing the checks 3 times, but if nobody does I'm doing 400 times. Names not being recognised, checking the databases for the correct spelling, finding the correct spelling, amending probably takes a similar amount of time to the changing of the format so again could be 30 seconds per team on average. Another 4 hours. I think with a little bit of cooperation we could take 10 hours out of the team entry process which would be massive for me.
