2 pointsJames Ellroy, the enormous American novelist, one of the most important and influential crime writers of our time, best known as the "Demon Dog of Crime Fiction", the rightful heir of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, the extraordinary author of such classics as "The Black Dahlia" and "L.A. Confidential", whose mother was brutally murdered by an unknown man when he was just 10 years old, is 75 today. Catherine O'Hara, the stupendous actress and comedian, who began her professional career in the 1970s, who made her big screen debut in 1980, probably best known for playing Kevin's mother in the box office hit "Home Alone" (1990), and "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992), and as the hilarious Moira Rose on "Schitt's Creek", who was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is 69 today.

2 pointsNah she didn’t give any points to Adamski, just left it highlighted from Chorizo’s scoring.

2 pointsWhether you love him or loathe him, to me he feels like more of a link to the past than any of the current list. The Nixon Presidency and the Watergate era feels like another world to me and ancient history, and yet one of the leading protagonists is still here in 2023. It will be an end of an era when he goes.

1 pointThis is him in "The Stinker" which was broadcast in 1980. I think it's Clive Dunnesque that he's lived another 43 years.

1 pointBill Drummond was convinced that Justified and Ancient would be number one "until Freddie went and died". And they did blatantly add BR for commercialisation. However, don't knock the impact of the Innuendo album. Perhaps fuelled by Freddie concern (it was an open secret he was very sick by 1991), but also by it being a great album, well received, it was one of their fastest selling albums since Greatest Hits a decade previously, and the singles out of it had done remarkably well for Queen in that time period. Even the contemporary music press, who hated Queen, mostly said it was a good album and good song. So yeah, TATDOOL would have topped the chart regardless of "thunderbolt and lightning" additions - public approval of that album's singles, and the post-death Freddie Mania (which continued for years - Freddie has a number one in 1993, despite being dead for 2 years) would have sealed the deal. Also, as your grumpy Scot, I use the word "beautiful" about once a century. That is a beautiful song, almost a threnody on acceptance at the bitter end.

1 pointHey Shaun of the Dead, your list contains an interesting mix of personalities. I like for example Herman Wouk, Al Molinaro and Maureen O`Hara. Some picks like Anthony Booth is unknown for me. But its clear, that the selection of DL-candidates and her name recognition also depends on from which country you're from. I live in Germany and I do not know in detail various domestic personalities from other countries. Whatever....I wish you good Luck with your picks. And dont Forget to Substitute Luise Rainer
