12 pointsThrowing money at mentally ill people doesn't make them not hate themselves shocker. My grandpa survived WWII. For the next 60 years, he had PTSD and was an alcoholic and was dependent on valium, which didn't stop his multiple suicide attempts. But in death certain family members hold him as an example of someone who "shut up and got on with it". No, he fucking needed help and it's a miracle he made 92. That kind of talk doesn't help anyone. Her singing abilities have nothing to do with my feelings. How about we treat all people with compassion (murderers etc. excluded), instead of playing fucking oppression olympics? Morrissey has a point (shudder).

5 pointsOnly the two hits that I can see since the last update, but they are the two biggies of George Alagiah and Tony Bennett. Alagiah was the third most popular pick this year, with 25 players selecting him. Bennett was a lot less popular, but the 10 picks was enough to secure him a place on the ZZZ team of most popular picks. 21st July: Tony Bennett 24th July: George Alagiah None of the leading three players had selected either Alagiah or Bennett, which means that we have a new top 3. @Thatcher uses their double hit to become the first person to reach the 1000 points landmark and is the new leader. @WEP and @The Unknown Man both cashed in their Alagiah Jokers to climb into second and third respectively. @Lady_Fiona, @TQRand @Young One all scores a double hit to drag themselves out of the basement and into contention. In fact the popularity of the 2 picks means that there is plenty of bunching in the chasing pack, with 19 players within 2 hits (or a Joker hit) of the lead. All to play for! @msc's cunning plan of having all of their picks die in December has come undone, as Bennett broke ranks to give them their first hit of the year. Only 4 players still to trouble the scorers now. Here is the top 7 (everyone over 800 points). Check out the full scoreboard on page 1, and let me know if I have missed any obscure hits. Thatcher (1034 points) 7 hits [George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Gina Lollobrigida, Milan Kundera Rolf Harris*, Ted Kaczynski, Tony Bennett] WEP (989 points) 6 hits [Augie Nieto, George Alagiah*, Mutulu Shakur, Ralf Harris, Teresa Taylor, Tim Lobinger] The Unknown Man (893 points) 5 hits [George Alagiah*, Gianluca Vialli, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ted Kaczynski] Death Impends (891 points) 7 hits [Bert I Gordon, Billy Graham, Ed Ames, Francoise Gilot, Jimmy Weldon, Lucille Randon, Milan Kundera] Toast (857 points) 9 hits [Fay Weldon, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Just Fontaine, King Constantine, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Winnie Ewing] Arghton (856 points) 9 hits [Carmen Sevilla, Emlain Kabua, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Ivan Silayev*, Otis Taylor, Rafiq Nishonov, Tim Lobinger, Winnie Ewing) Wannamaker (814 points) 8 hits [Frank McGarvey, George Alagiah, King Constantine, Pervez Musharraf, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Ted Kaczynski]

4 pointsThis bollocks really does do my head in. She made something like 10 million quid from singing Princes song. And we are supposed to feel exactly what because she can't cope with life? The bloke who does my gardening for 15 quid a fucking hour has had a worse life than this by more than a small margin. Give me a fuckin' break.

3 pointsFrancis Crick died on this day 19 years ago, aged 88. - Crick's grandfather Walter Crick was an amateur naturalist, and possibly where he got his childhood interest in science from. - Crick's time in university was interrupted by WWII, but he eventually earned his PhD in 1954 when he was 37 years old. - Crick was best known for his work on the structure of DNA, which he worked on with (the now 95-year-old) James Watson. They began their research in 1951, using X-ray diffraction to help determine the molecular structure, and built off the experiments of Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling. Franklin inspected their double helix model, and considered it to be accurate: Their research would be published in 1953, and for this, they would be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962, alongside Maurice Wilkins; Wilkins introduced them to Franklin's photographs. (Nowadays, people believe Franklin deserved it as well.) - Afterwards, Crick would use X-ray diffraction to determine the shape of collagen, researched the structure of some kinds of viruses, and attempted to figure out how proteins are synthesized. - Crick became a vocal critic of Christianity in his later years, once joking that "Christianity may be OK between consenting adults in private but should not be taught to young children." - Crick died of colon cancer, and Watson gave a eulogy at a public memorial two months after his death.

2 pointsIt's more a case of the opposite of what Morrissey said. She got famous for singing a Prince song and shaving her head and has done very little else of note musically. Only due to her erratic public statements and actions has she become a minor celebrity. So people have been looking for good things to say about her (as is usual when someone dies and when there are at least a few good things to talk about). There are many other one hit wonders from the early 1990s who would barely even get a mention in the press if they died.

2 pointsOh and whilst I'm on it and attracting hate - if it turns out it was 'because she couldn't bear the loss of her child' attracting yet more sympathy... What about the other three that she's now left behind? Hate me if you like but she was selfish.

1 pointArrigo Cipriani, son of bellini inventor and Harry's Bar (the one in Venice that's mentioned in Brideshead Revisited, not the one in Rome or London) founder Giuseppe Cipriani, is still alive aged 91. He's the majority stakeholder in the company his father set up that has numerous properties, so I think a QO would be guaranteed. Healthy enough to serve as the model for Venezia's away kit launch:
