4 pointsUpdate time. First of all, lest I forget, Heath Streak is a hit for several people. I missed that name in the previous update. The Zimbabwean cricket legend was rumoured to be gravely ill in spring, but then they said it wasn't THAT bad, but instead of having weeks left to live he had only a few months left to live. Still, one of the better mid-year substitutes, while Cale Yarborough or Bob Knight still carry on. Biggest Australian politician to never be prime minster, Bill Hayden, is a unique hit for Salmon Mousse. Health news were getting grim this year, only SalmonMousse anticipated the decline. I score a unique hit with magic mushroom researcher Roland Griffiths. The New York Times obit came immediately, while a DDP QO has not materialized yet. Chris Snow of the Calgary Flames was a big hit for a few players. Proof here that I don't get an advantage for submitting early: If I had waited, I would have seen the news. But alas, he was in my DDP team, but not here. Luis Garavito was my 2nd unique hit in this update. One of the most ...uh... prolific serial killers in history, he finally died after about 2 years of cancer, and before receiving a compassionate release. But that was a quite a story over there in Colombia. Next hit is Rosemary Squires, another unique hit for Gooseberry Crumble, his joker as well. So he keeps on managing pretty well with a completely different set of names, 15/50 hits right now. (Funeralopolis at 19) Martti Ahtisaari is a hit for Nick and Annami. A Finnish PM turned successful diplomat. We already knew his Alzheimer's was pretty advanced, and now it has struck. Cpt. Chorizo scores a unique hit with Scottish football player Frank McDougall. Kind of a stochastic hit... Unique hit for Windsor in the DDP, unique hit here as well. But then, as far as I knew, his lung cancer was only at stage 2. The risk pays off, though. Dianne Feinstein, in spite of everything, was only picked once, by Liz Lemon. So a big congratulations on that one. And I hope, that's it. Surprisingly not picked: Phyllis Coates (only a sub), Chuck Feeney. Score-wise, Banana is the first one to cross 1000 pts this year, well done! I can make up for not having picked Chris Snow with the two uniques, and so I catch up. But do I have enough differentials left? My joker Johnny Ruffo is not enough. SalmonMousse scores a couple of times this update and is almost back on the podium again. 2 pointsPotential punt for the next 20-30 years (or less?), Welsh rapper (MC) Ren, who just scored a nr. 1 hit: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-67173910 He's had heavy lyme disease and is left with continuous autoimmune diseases. Currently, he's on an IV drip in Canada and cannot perform live.

1 pointhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Bassey Was quite surprised that one of the most iconic and talented British female singers indeed musical legends of the past fifty years Shirley Bassey didn't have her own thread. As an internationally famous superstar she certainly deserves one especially as she turned 80 in early January. It would be a bit of a forum travesty if we were caught unawares and she passed away without a thread already established imo! She's also quite a private person so she could well have serious health issues that we are unaware of and thus she isn't really on our radar in terms of the deathlist or predictions. A relatively recent picture of the grand Dame and Diva!

1 pointAye, thought it excellent and very good on period detail (cars, the way people dealt with each other and in particular how women were treated). Re obitable types from that time still around the obvious big name is Sonia - Ex-wife of Peter - Sutcliffe, now Mrs Woodward: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonia_Sutcliffe

1 pointFrom what I've been told, the domestic Japanese media seems to be much more interested in her condition than her husband's. He's probably going to live for quite a while yet, but I don't think terribly longer for her, maybe a year or two.

1 pointTo fix the cataclysmic damage the Tories have done to this country over the past 13 years, Labour are going to need at least that amount of time again. And they have to do it in a country where austerity has cut us to the bone, debt is through the roof, growth is through the floor, people's rights and freedoms have been trashed (not to mention their finances), global standing has taken a huge knock, housing, schools and hospitals are all in complete disarray and the abhorrent press will attempt to trash them from day one. Best of luck to them.

1 pointYep. That said think he could be one of those worth taking a punt on for the 2024 list lower down

1 point"Queen of Rockabilly" Wanda Jackson is 86 today. Minimal success in the UK charts, her biggest hit being her cover of Let's Have a Party (number 32, 1960). More success on the continent with her German language recordings, as were popular at the time, especially Santo Domingo, which reached number 1 in Austria and also charted in Germany & Belgium.

1 pointYou can believe whatever you want. The committee picked him for a reason! Then I randomly picked him out of the 50! I believe there’s several politicians on the Deathlist. I decided to pick one - and your issue of me picking one is why exactly? Most ppl picked Jimmy Carter.

1 pointDorothy Hoffner, the Chicago woman who last week made headlines as she became the world's oldest skydiver (at age 104), died Sunday. Hoffner, who began working as an operator at Illinois Bell in 1938, passed away Oct. 8. On October 1, Hoffner took the jump that earned her the world record for oldest person to skydive.

1 pointMy lead is back up to 4: Giorgio Napolitano seemed a perfectly plausible DL name, but the Committee disagreed. As a result, I have 16, they have 12. Could I hit the official DL record of 20 before the end of the year...? (I know others have a far better hit rate in other games, but in keeping with GUB's argument for the "spirit of the game", all my picks are done with the intent of trying to second-guess the Committee with Deathlisty names!).

1 pointHoly shit, I got scared for a second when I saw activity on a Shirley Bassey thread. Had no idea who she was until I watched the 2013 Oscars. At first I was like, wow, this lady has amazing presence and a great voice, especially for someone older. Then I saw exactly how old she was at the time, and to still be able to sing like that? Mariah Carey's voice basically left her at 35, and this woman is still belting it out in her 70's? I was blown away. Since then I've certainly familiarized myself with who she is. What a legendary performer. Don't you fucking dare fuck with Shirley Bassey, 2020!

1 pointJohn Quincy Adams gained total independence and freedom on this day 170 years ago, aged 80.

1 pointKenny Morgans's death has already been mentioned in four threads, so what harm can a fifth do for such a true footballing legend? There's still The Ones That Got Away for anyone else that feels the need.
