I must admit I was absolutely furious with Dennis Skinner for ages when he backed Brexit. But I will be sad to see him go. It's hard to ignore his decades of dedicated, compassionate service. Not just his Queen's speech quips or Tory takedowns. He wasn't in politics for himself. He's done a lot for dementia causes, too. His mother and sister had it. He regularly visited care homes, did some kind of documentary or something too iirc. Be a huge shame if it took him too.

Correct. Any more trivia up your sleeve?

No you're not. But there's probably a lot of non-Brits who don't know who Starmer-Smith is, in fairness.

I must be the only person here who had no idea who this old dude was. But I don't watch any American TV.

I don't watch new Who (has just never interested me), but I've been enjoying working my way through the original episodes on iPlayer. I find myself cursing the indiscriminate way in which the BBC wiped the tapes. I really like the Hartnell historical episodes, so of course they had to junk all of Marco Polo, half The Crusade, etc. Meanwhile the embarrassing tedium of The Web Planet is preserved in its entirety, all 6 overstretched episodes worth.

In 70 years of UK Christmas No.1s, only 10 have been actual Christmas songs. Seven of those were in the game (Shakey, Slade, Mud, Band Aid, Boney M, Johnny Mathis and Cliff Richard's Mistletoe & Wine). They're now all gone, and we're only a third of the way through the list. Pretty extraordinary.

This is the 1st top 15 oldest living death since 16 July 2023 (Eusebio Quintero Lopez's death). If Kame Uema's age gets validated in the future and she is still alive currently it would mean that (as both Eusebio Quintero Lopez and Katsugo Tago would be 16th instead of 15th at the time of their death) there have not been any top 15 deaths since 4 July 2023 (Ushi Makishi's death).

Yes. As an American, had no idea who Rolf Harris or Michael Parkinson was. Same goes for all the UK politicians besides a few PM.

Several of his sit-coms were developed from UK TV sitcoms so that is an important link that might justify his coverage in the British media

Literally never heard of him. Never even seen his name before. Would he even get a UK obit (can't see any mention of him yet in the papers)?

Elizabeth Edwards died on this day 13 years ago, aged 61. - Edwards' actual first name was Mary, and her maiden name was Anania. She married John Edwards in 1977. - Edwards worked at a law firm, retiring after her son Wade was killed in a car accident. - Edwards gained national spotlight during her husband's presidential run in the 2004 election due to how open she was about her struggles (especially Wade Edwards' death), and would have become the Second Lady of the United States had John Kerry beat George W. Bush. - The day after the 2004 election, Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer, becoming an activist against the disease. She beat it once, but it recurred in 2007, metastasizing to her bones and lungs. - While undergoing cancer treatment, John Edwards had an affair and fathered an illegitimate daughter (which was highly publicized between 2008 and 2010). Elizabeth would legally separate from John in January of 2010 following his admission, and excluded him from her will. - Edwards died the day after she stopped treatment due to the cancer spreading to her liver. She had made one appearance on the DeathList, at #30 on the 2008 list.

I think we're due a shock death, so I'm going for Jimmy Carter.

Now 2 people born in 1907 (Maria Branyas Morera and Fusa Tatsumi) have lived longer than all validated people born in 1905.

Fucking great. Carter's even outlived the 'poll' function.

If Silvio Berlusconi, Ted Kaczynski, and Michael Gambon were still on the list, we would have broken the 2020 record.
