Kudos to the "you know, I think Timothy looks worse than Prunella" brigade in this thread.

Well, 2024 candidates are true survivors. Carter, Eastwood and now Prunella surviving their partners… Even the safest candidates seem to be at risk for next year, drops will be hard to choose

There are 4 versions – 1984, 1989, 2004, 2014. They need to let this die. It wasn't a good song then, it's even worse now. It makes me grit my teeth and cringe when I hear it as it has "white saviour" written all over it. "Do they know it's Christmas time at all?" Well probably mate, they're malnourished, not thick. It's even more out of touch when you consider many of the people from the affected regions were Muslims or had traditional tribal beliefs.

I've argued this before. This was the most effective line in the song. It hit home because deep down people were thankful it wasn't them. And it forced us to admit it. Bono delivered it perfectly. It's not patronising, it's almost accusatory. This was the line that had us emptying our wallets. It was brilliant.

"He's rumoured to be the state executioner" "What's he doing up here?" "It could be you old boy, the minister didn't take 'too' kindly to that speech of yours" "If this turns out to have an Irish connection, I shall retire" I could quote from it all day and all night too, but better not eh? There are plot holes and a couple of factual errors (plutonium bullets, cough) if you watch it a few times and look closely enough but rarely has anything ever been done better. And no matter your thoughts on EC one way or the other, the soundtrack is epic.

Moreover, it is kinda ironic that a guy who voted for the repeal of (not only the) Affordable Care Act...now could have used it?

I have to beg to differ my friend. You are talking about raising funds for people who have been in government. They are all sly and know a powerful money grab when they see it. He may be going through therapy, but you do not know for sure there is actual hope he will walk again. They have to just try to pull on the Americans heart stings to get into your purse. Look at an election year and what they spend their donor money on. Things that will actually help them win a campaign? No they have to give a million dollars to a women who is already a millionaire to host a few hour event. But yet somehow the government does not have enough money to help hurricane victims. You can not tell me someone who was in government does not have good health care insurance that therapy would not be covered, and if they do have a bit to have to pay I am sure they can afford it.

I had just finished my binge of series 1 of "Upstart Crow" (2016) on my library streaming service Kanopy when I learned about "Ludwig" (2024), so I binge that online.

Never mind Bond, Jedburgh is the reason I'd die on the "Joe Don Baker's DLy" hill. "He died, peacefully in his sleep, of bullet wounds." It's just excellent TV and has aged considerably well imo.

I finally got around to watching Edge Of Darkness. I'd bought the DVD on Ebay for a couple of quid and it's been resting in a drawer for months. Excellent stuff, and despite being nearly 40 years old, surprisingly topical.
