The Daredevil 1,189 Posted January 25, 2023 Just found out Kundera was six-foot-two inches tall (1.88m) in his prime! https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7703777-i-am-obedient-i-can-never-say-no-to-those This means Kundera was at one time the tallest candidate from the 2023 DL along with Alan Alda, making Kundera’s continuous survival, plagued by his grave health issues, even harder to explain with this great height. The next tallest on this year’s list, from listings I have found, are: Sandy Gall: 6 ft 1.5 (1.87m) Sonny Rollins: 6 ft 1.5 (1.87m)

Today, your husband, a great writer, the inspirer of many of us, Milan Kundera, is 93 years old. I know his health is not good, I wish it was the best he could. Knowing all the context, I say it's nice to be able to experience your husband's 93rd birthday. That we can wish him the greatest "ease of being", even though we know that being is not easy at all. And that we can thank you for taking care of him. Vaclav Klaus' yearly birthday wish for Kundera, here's the "important" part: Dear and kind Mrs. Vera, tomorrow is the 94th anniversary of the birth of your husband, the great writer and great personality of modern Czech history, Milan Kundera. I know about his state of health, and therefore I know that I cannot write to him and that I should write to you. I know that you have devoted yourself to him for many decades, and we all have to thank you for that on this very day.

Dead Wait 1,149 Posted July 12, 2023 12 years I’ve been on this site and I’m fairly sure this is the first time I’ve shrugged my shoulders and moved on very quickly after I’ve seen a death from the main list. Now, back to the Huw Edwards saga……..! 1

Slackhurst Broadcasting 374 Posted July 12, 2023 Can't find anything about it on the BBC website, where the top story in "Culture" is Jeremy Vine saying the BBC presenter should come forward and fall on his sword, presumably tripped up by having his trousers and underpants round his ankles. But here's a song inspired by Milan Kundera...

That's about as obscure a Kundera-related anecdote I can offer at this time. For the record, I enjoyed both Being and Zen, and yes, the odd committee member has read a book or two. It's unlikely he'll sue me now.

La Tombe 354 Posted July 12, 2023 Milan Kundera was French of nationality, spoke French and wrote French. Like Picasso was a French painter. So many artists came and continue to come to France but these artist are described by their origin of nationality and not as French artist while it’s France gave them their popularity and not their original country. It’s the same for writers, painters, actors, singer for many countries. I don’t understand why resume people by their original nationality while the country they immmigrate in gave them everything and more than their original countries !
