Confirmed also in The Guardian, who state that he died a week ago but didn't tell anybody (or summat).

This was my introduction to them, 30-odd years ago.

Well of course he didn’t tell anyone that he’s dead. Why would he?

Am I too young to know him ? I never heard if him but it seems to be a big news...

He’s among the pioneers of electronic music, so he’s definitely a major music figure, even if he wasn’t the most well known.

BBC have it now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-52564281?intlink_from_url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment_and_arts&link_location=live-reporting-story

I'll point out he's List of the Missed as I picked him in 2018 for the DDP. I'll also point out he's a miss for my TOTP team, as Tour De France hit #24 in the UK charts in September 1984. Two misses in 3 days!

The Model is a great tune, well remembered from childhood. Sad news.

Just the list of who they influenced is staggering.

Gary Numan

Ultravox

Depeche Mode

Human League

OMD

Soft Cell

Prodigy

Daft Punk

Etc.....

So yeah, they were very relevant.

Florian wasn't part of Kraftwerk since 2008 though.

For the record, I think time meant that in the guardian article it mentioned he suffered from cancer but didn’t tell anyone...

For the record, that's not what I meant.

It was a joke, but 'whoosh'.

Really sad. Loved the band and Computerworld is one of all time great albums.

He had quite an offbeat sense of humour, it was Ralf who really pushed the aloof side of Kraftwerk I think.

I once saw him face to face in a Cologne music shop. The closest I ever got to someone that obitable.

RIP.... I think he was the heart of Kraftwerk. The other founding member, Ralf Hütter, was a bit more the brains... he is the one still keeping it going by doing these tours, which are, in my opinion, more like homages instead of the real thing.

(Also Ralf Hütter was in a court case about illegal sampling just last week and is looking just fine.)

And if you've ever wondered about this particular Bowie song, yes it's about Florian Schneider:

David Bowie paid tribute to him with the B side to Heroes with "V-2 Schneider".

Dave Greenwood one day, Florian Schneider the next.   Two absolute music giants to me.  What a shite week.   Goddamn I loved Kraftwerk and The Stranglers.

I had a Kraftwerk LP I ‘obtained’ from the radio station I worked at, transferred to cassette (Yh we talkin 1984).  Album destroyed in a flood, cassette missing/long gone.  I can not find a copy of this album at all - like it never existed.  Was early days when just Ralf + Florian.  Prolly never figure the mystery out.

RIP.

Sweet Pea Atkinson, one of the singers with American group Was Not Was  has died aged 74 from a heart attack.

Absolutely used to love jigging to their 1980s hit Walk the dinosaur!:D

I loved Was Not Was when I was a child. They had some very catchy songs. Shake Your Head another one.

The dinosaur song gets stuck in your head for hours...

Was (Not Was)

This is one of those things I've only ever seen written down.  How are you meant to say it?

Exactly how it looks on paper I believe.

From Wiki:

"The name of the band was derived from Fagenson's then-infant son Tony, who was just beginning to talk and enjoyed contradicting words such as "Blue" with "Not Blue". "

You'd have thought they'd have tried to come up with a more exciting story in the meantime...

Oh, I thought one 'Was' might be pronounced like has.  Or something like that.

Don Was - a fine Detroiter.   He’s getting into that age bracket for musicians...
