charon 4,943 Posted January 15, 2018 Heard interview with his old Coventry manager when they won the English Cup 30 years ago. John Sillett sounded every one of his 81 years. Short of breath , four or five words and 'gasp', if he sees 85 I'd be surprised.

Bobby Moore put England 1-0 up in 1993, then Emmerich equalised in 2003 before Alan Ball put England back in front, via a heart attack and garden fire. Then in 2011, Haller (who actually scored in the final) died. Now it seems a whole bunch of them are teetering on the brink. England have gone 3-2 up via Jimmy Armfield. NJD123 26 Posted January 22, 2018 Very sad to see Armfield has died. Blackpool legend! He didn't play in the World Cup Final however.
Grim Up North 3,725 Posted January 22, 2018 Loved listening to him on 5 live - sad he's gone. RIP Jimmy. I would imagine he enjoyed his life, if your biggest regret is not winning a medal with Blackpool then life has treated you pretty well!
Exu 250 Posted January 22, 2018 Although the guy was in his 80s he had a modern perspective on football and showed himself to be a very intelligent guy unlike some of the morons you see in the media these days. RIP

Grim Up North 3,725 Posted January 22, 2018 A bad day for the good guys of football. RIP Mr Cryne. An owner very much loved and respected by the fans - rare today.

RadGuy 1,614 Posted January 22, 2018 RIP. Seemed like a nice, respectable owner that Barnsley fans loved. My 3rd DDP success, but everybody had him so doesn't help me pull ahead or anything.
msc 18,437 Posted January 22, 2018 Regardless of any deadpool points, that's a shame about Patrick Cryne. By all accounts, one of the good guy football owners and we don't have many of those.
FixedBusiness 407 Posted January 22, 2018 My first DDP hit. R.I.P, and yes a bad day for football lovers
ebless 203 Posted January 22, 2018 Middlesbrough's 'flying winger' Billy Day has died aged 81. https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/tributes-paid-billy-day-boros-14188430
Death Impends 7,957 Posted January 22, 2018 RIP. I always scour football forums whenever I pick a team owner. When I picked Phil Gartside, his convo was largely "he's such a shit owner, are we sure if his illness is even real?" whereas Cryne's discussion was largely of appreciation for what he did for Barnsley. Seemed a good guy indeed.

I hope he pulls through - 36 is no age to go. I did toy with putting him on my list but decided against it on the balance of probabilities that a fit and young(ish) man had a better-than-average chance of beating it. Hope I'm proved right.
