Because of the cancer or because she is about as funny as cancer?

See, that's my thought (see also Michael McIntyre) but, like McIntyre, she has an insane amount of fans.

I don't recall her ever saying her cancer was incurable before.

Neither do I, but it sure was nice of her to tell us before the DDP 2023 starting line :)

Yeah ovarian cancer that has spread does not bode well at all.

About 12 - 15 years ago there was a false story of his death, I was asked in work about it, as apparently I'm the person who knows all about dead celebs, and told everyone that he was alive, some still argued that it was true as it had been on the radio.

Yeah, I've very much filed Godley alongside Joe Exotic in terms of people who I'm not bothering to keep tabs on.

How bout now?

Christopher Douglas has announced the death of his Ed Reardon/Dave Podmore co-writer Andrew Nickolds on Monday.

Very sad news - 'Ed Reardon's Week' is one of *the* great radio comedies.

Proper obit for Andrew Nickolds, written by Matthew Engel, who I more associate with cricket, but then Nickolds wrote some cricket-based stuff.

Can't believe I missed that death earlier this month, Ed Reardon's Week truly is one of only 10 or so truly great comedies of the 20th century and, like many, I find myself turning into Reardon more with every passing year.

Obituaries: BBC

With Bird and Fortune now gone, one wonders how long Bremner may have left...

Were you weighing up secular Norwegian comedienne Shabana Rehman for your 2023 DDP? Well, bad luck: she's dead at 46. Was one of those "100% sure she'll die, 30% sure she'll QO" picks for me - I'd have been more aggressive on her in years gone by, but I felt like maybe Nadia Toffa's lack of a QO was a precedent. We'll see.

And that makes me wonder, what exactly would David Frost/Paddy Ashdown/that Welsh rugby commentator say about Rory Bremner dying? (takes glasses out of pocket)

Only so far you can go with crossing your eyes and sticking your chin out while talking.

Worked to a laugh track on his shows iirc, pretty jarring when other shows were going for the live audience. Plus Channel 4 comes along promoting the alt comedy scene and even though he was funny and new to us, he looked immediately old fashioned and out of date.

Doesn't seem to have harmed him though. Really kept him off my teams for a couple of years now, as wasn't sure he'd obit. But it's a quiet time for news, so he might.
