Was thinking I'd open a 2017 thread in mid-May, just gauging interest atm...

Wouldn't really call a member of the Church of England "religious" tbh.

Not quite a death - yet - but my ex hubby is doing his best ever hovering in ICU will-he-won't-he act. We divorced 15 years ago and I've been remarried over 10 years. We have no current connections save for a 25 year old daughter, who is in bits at his bedside. It transpires he collapsed in acute stomach pain the weekend before last. Tests showed ruptured bowels and he had advanced Sepsis (now under control). His kidneys are under attack and they are dialysing him, lungs were full of the most horrendous brown muck and they have sucked litres up. Parts of his bowel have been removed and a stoma fitted. They say it's a miracle he survived surgery. All this follows on the back of 45 years of hard binge drinking. (The reason why we divorced!). We have had these scares and ICU stays before with him, but nothing ever on this scale for this length of time. This surely has to the one that finishes him. Yesterday's update was that clots were discovered on his lungs and his arm was broken - presumably due to weakened bone density following on from compromised kidneys. Ten days he has now been under medical sedation but the hospital keep giving little rays of hope to my daughter and his new girlfriend. they say small, steady improvements but it's going to be an extremely slow thing. I don't think she has any emotion of physical reserved left. I want it over. I want him to either go or recover enough for them to wake him up and so daughter can speak to her father and tell him she dropped her life and flew to his bedside and been there ever since. And another thing... somehow his girlfriend got listed as 'next-of-kin' and this has meant his own daughter and his sister are blocked from talking to the doctors. Everything has to go through this girlfriend, who is a woman beforehand they knew nothing about and have never spoken to. My daughter says her dad has been hijacked. It would take a court order to be included in medical discussions. So be very careful the nest time someone asks who is your next of kin!

Anyone interested in running this again for 2017?

She does... Or more recently she looks like a blow up doll that's gone to seed. And she's really not good at debating, no wonder she won't appear in a tv debate.

He might be recovering from a bout of ill health as mentioned earlier, but Ken Clarke is standing for Parliament again. "He was ready to stand down in 2020 but not in six weeks time", apparently.

Oy vey DJL, in defense of my peers, you's actin' like a grumpy, old man. Hey hey know we American teens are hardworking and independent. We drive ourselves around and have jobs. Meanwhile those Guido kids are out on the curb smoking cigs and refusing to go to church with their nonna at 4AM on Wednesday... pfft, what brats. I dunno about Aussie kids, but American kids are much healthier than their trashy parents. If they have enough money they might even choose fancy restaurants like Chipotle, Panera, and Starbucks... wish I could relate... Anyways, we made so much progress we ain't even the fattest country no more. That honor belongs to mis amigos al sud.

That's incredible 18pts for Shameless (and probably the achievement of one of my goals in deadpooling for this year, being player of the month). Shameless is now at 78pts with 5 hits. A triple-digit score is in sight (on January 2nd I predictedca score of 105pts, see the DDP thread.)

I'd be up for that. Pick 10 seats you think will be lost in the GE, if they fall then you score the current majority.

A quick update on Nick Boles here. He has completed his final treatment, no signs of cancer and the doctors expect a full recovery by the end of Summer. Further to that he is seeking re-election at the General Election and so he must be somewhat confident in his health.

No Yank [or Australian] kid from this generation will become a super-centenarian given the amount of McDonald's they consume...

Well, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in my performance. I had high hopes especially for the people I have in common with DDT. Plus John Vennari, plus Iain Reid and I thought I would get to double-digits more likely than not. Then one of my uniques or Hamilton-Byrne, or Noriega would get me to 13-14pts. That's looking really far-fetched by now. Funny thing is I might yet beat everyone but DI - just as it was last round. But also, it has to be said, it would be hard to improve DI's team. Well played.

Hmm, where's the poll that says the British people want a General Election? Surely there is no appetite for it. Oh, it's ok for Scotland not to have votes on what their Parliament wants, but ok for the Government to breach their own UK Act they only passed a few years ago. (Don't get me wrong, May looks more incompetent and out of her depth every day. I don't think she'll get the majority she wants.)

Emma Morano IS a hit, and a unique one for Deadsox! They finally have a hit. I have been humming and hawwing about it being 2 points or 3 points, as "oldest woman in the world" isn't really a claim to fame and is more a lifetime achievement. Deadsox is however now level with Spade at the half way point. Meanwhile, Tony Kaye's death turns another Quarterfinal on its head, being a three pointer for Heef. News on the horizon: while Jason DiMatteo is apparently on the mend, Barry Marshall-Everitt on the other hand (a unique for Death Impends) is now in full time hospice care and getting coverage in the Evening Standard next week, according to Just Giving. Meanwhile the likes of Nevin, Lakovic and King Michael cling on.... 1. DDT vs Rad’s Die-monds in the Sky (Rad Guy) 0-1 2. “O” (Gcreptile) vs William Henry Harrison Die-in-a-Month Squad (Death Impends) 2-9 3. 101 Great Practical Jokes with Luciano Re Cecconi (Spade Cooley) vs Deadsox 2-2 4. The GUN’11 (Grim Up North) vs Heef 2-4 As usual, if I miss out your slightly obscure unique hit, do let us know.
