Sad news. Mentioned by users time and time again in the Ideas thread yet omitted from the list despite the fact we knew he was very ill. A poor decision not to include him, particularly given that all of the immediate obituaries for him are British.

It’s the lack of footfall in high streets which is real killer. Let’s face it, most people have had a pay squeeze here for nearly 9 years. I finally got a 4% payrise this year after 1% in each of the last 8. Plus us as an example- Howick shirt in House of Fraser £40. Exact same shirt on Amazon £5. Polo shirt for holiday from Burtons £12. Exactly the same from a warehouse on eBay £1.99. All that’s missing is the Burtons label.

Before I open this link, I believe I’m experiencing a culture clash. I don’t claim to be versed on all ‘57 varieties’ but I’ve not heard of ‘salad cream’ so changing it’s name is of little effect. I know there is salad spread which is their bullshit ‘mayo’. There’s also a creamed concoction with horseradish that may be called sandwich spread. But I’m pretty sure American grocery shelves are immune to anything called salad cream. And now I shall open the link... SC Edit: OK I’ve never seen that in my life. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist here, but companies do market for regional desires. Thus all the Cajun crap on the shelves where I’m at and not 100 miles later in any direction

Very trivial but worth mentioning. As of today, Elizabeth II has been reigning for 24,226 days, exactly 1000 more than Victoria did.

I noticed more empty shops in my street, too. They can't all be filled with barbers and kebab shops. I wonder if there is a retail industry crash coming - well... I guess it has been happening for years, with the internet and all, but there must be a similar collapse of rental and housing prices.
