Sure, have two at once: Trygve Brudevold (wiki), Norwegian Olympic bobsledder (1952, 1956), dead at 100. Ruth Apilado (wiki), American newspaper editor and anti-racism activist, dead at 113. Apilado ofc was the last living person of note (for reasons other than age) born in 1908.

Oldest living football player, Arthur Hoyle Smith, died on the 21st, according to the Bury Times. Link is not loading for me, but Google knows. This seems like a copy/paste job of the original obit: https://sayarimedia.com/2021/08/arthur-smith-bury-times.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=arthur-smith-bury-times

Don't ever change, @Gooseberry Crumble, you're a wonderful and humane person, your joy of living is contagious! But... I think there's something I should tell you... Vera Miles is still alive, I can feel it.

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/just-cook-yer-adelphi-hotel-20654551 Feel this is the best thread for this. I just found out that Brian Birchall who was the deputy manager of the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool died a few months ago in May . The search function didn't show that the news had been posted on here. He was the deputy manager during the 1997 popular fly on the wall BBC documentary series 'Hotel' filmed at the Adelphi. "Just cook will ya!! " is a phrase he was well known for using in the show when berating kitchen staff!

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/lion-of-panjshirs-son-ahmad-massoud-vows-to-fight-on-against-taliban-in-afghanistan-jbk2lw5s3 Ahmad Massoud (1989-), son of mujahideen guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud (1953-2001) vows to fight on against the Taliban and says that he won't surrender. Massoud and Saleh are in the Panjshir valley with around 2000-10000 soldiers including remnants of Afghanistan's army (national army, some special force soldiers, commando corps members, air force remnants, Massoud's army (he claims to have 9000 soldiers), independent militias, local civilians and others) Defence Minister Bismillah Khan and former chief of staff 2020-2021 Yasin Zia are also there. Also, Karzai and former Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah seem to still be in the country, trying to negotiate with the Taliban.

I've never heard of 'frostbit boy' (shouldn't that be 'frostbitten'?) but Ruairi McSorley sounds like a Viz comic character.

Thats not true. I'm a Royal observer and I couldn't give a fuck. Also, if holding grudges limits life expectancy I'd have been still born.

Well I take my hat off to you both in general for your obituary work on the DDP and in particular for some of your excellent and kind write ups for my unique Crumble team 'hits'. I was absolutely delighted when I read the Poul Schluter one and think your summary hits the nail on the head! Very unlikely to win but a talent for esoteric off the radar unique picks ! I like to think my three esoteric leaning unique pick heavy teams contribute to the overall enjoyment of the game ,more colourful, interesting etc rather than being a big part of the competitive furnace of the game! Thanks again

278 confirmed qualifying deaths last year . We are nearly half that number at the midway point this year in the 2021 list so I am still fairly confident that we will surpass and beat last years total.

Why does Sandy get all this "boo boring pick" drive by people? He's not even the most boring person on this years list. This "woohoo we're so ignorant" stuff is so dull and counter to the Deathlist ethos we all know and love. Yours, Scrooge
