This website has the most wonderful tangents on nearly every thread. Gogglebox 'star' dies. In the next c 10 posts subjects cover Lush, James Dean, couch potatoes, reality TV, Prince Philip's death, mundanity of life and Red Triangle films on Channel 4. (and not an RIP in sight )

I saw the son from that family wander into a branch of Lush in Brighton once and the staff there treated him like he was James Dean in 55.

Not a fan of starting new threads but I think this man is notable enough. He has presented on LBC for over 40 years and is well known for his early breakfast show where he chastises celebrities and rants on about life. A few years ago he had stents put in, but over the last year or two he has suffered from numerous health issues for which he has had to he hospitalised for. He's 67, has been off multiple times this year due to emergency procedures (sometimes announcing he was returning the next day and then pulling out just an hour before) and this is a man who never took one day off in about 10 years prior to that. He is back again now since 9th August but his illnesses seem to be getting more and more frequent. He was also a chainsmoker for many years until giving up when he had an angina attack... Maybe one to watch.

I've looked on FB, Twitter, Google, Ancestry, the GRO, wills etc. Can't find shit. She was still active in September 2018, aged 94. The GRO still doesn't include a lot of the deaths from the end of 2019, let alone 2020 and 2021. They really need to get it updated.

Channel 4 has always been the most disingenuous of TV stations, with its 'edgy' documentaries feigning concern over socio-sexual issues when all the channel really wants is ratings from prurient viewers. Not to mention the dismal 'social experiments' like Big Brother/Naked Attraction/Gogglebox etc. I remember their Red Triangle film strand - yes yes we want to show important arty Euro films, oh wait there's nudity in them, who knew?! At least the ITV hub and Channel 5 know they're shit and make no bones about it.

12.04 exact, thanks to time stamps on this forum. (I legit thought I'd break the news and suddenly, Thatcher beat me by seconds, but I digress...) And yes, completely staged. (And yes, given most of them still work actual jobs and it was a Friday lunch time when Philip was announced!)

So I was looking at my mostly forgotten picks in the Arghton's deadpool, and stumbled across the funeral of "Bletchley Girl" Marigold Freeman-Attwood. Died in May at 98: https://vimeo.com/566780865 https://groups.google.com/g/peerage-news/c/_PowcA7G6GU Also, another Bletchley Girl of mine, Jean Pitt-Lewis, mentioned in this church letter, don't know what that means though: https://stmarysrcchepstow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Monmouth-Newsletter-3th-November-2019.pdf

As a once massive speedway fan glad to se someone posting this, but Owen was never really a top tier speedway rider. His season with top league Belle Vue was when they entered a junior team in the second division (although he was 33 at the time) and the bulk of his career was with second division workington, with whom he was generally a heat leader (i.e. one of their top 3 riders) but not really one of the stars of the league. Saw him several times at Weymouth (then my local team) in the 70s.

I'm sure Google used to be better, especially Google Images, which returns images that appear to have little or no connection with the search terms. Never used to be like that.

God damnit, you’re right. I set my Google search to “past month” too. This is not the first time regurgitated articles have come up when I do that. Clearly their algorithms can’t detect when a news site has recently updated or moved an old article.

Aye, Covid has kicked conventional dead pooling wisdom into touch - all the doddering cases stay home and never get sneezed on queuing in the sandwich shop. If this continues I suggest the committee limit next year's Drop Fifty entirely to famous fat smokers spotted on anti-vax demos.

Man dies after glueing his penis shut instead of using a condom: https://metro.co.uk/2021/08/26/man-dies-after-using-glue-to-seal-penis-shut-instead-of-using-condom-15156223/ To be fair, the glueing was just a side note. The cause of death was drugs, and sniffing the glue.

According to Twitter he turned 105 years old in May. That Twitter is from the Barcelona Players' Association which looks after ex-players of the club so I think it seems valid.
