Hey GC Reptile et al, great work on the DDP so far Been enjoying reading the obits. I'd be happy to do the prominent Australian obits when they occur if that appeals. Give a local flavour and all.

You disproved your first sentence with your last one. ‘Worldwide significance’ is something that can only be judged with a huge sample of ‘personal significance’. One person can’t judge that, hence that conversation is futile and the only way this thread can be taken to mean is significance from our own points of view.

Well, it’d certainly up this site’s mean intelligence significantly.

Alright, if it’s personal significance, rather than worldly significance, then Marlon Bundo it is then. Cos I like fluffy rabbits.

Sidney Poitier won an Oscar (and was the first black male to win one), 2 Golden Globes, a Grammy, and a BAFTA. He was knighted by the Queen, received a Kennedy Center Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a BAFTA Fellowship, was ranked in the top 25 best male actors ever by AFI. He broke the glass ceiling for people of colour in cinema, and was internationally renowned. Bob Saget was a mediocre comedian barely heard of outside the States who presented America’s Funniest Home Videos. How is he the most significant death of January 2022?

Glad you've been enjoying my efforts! It's been a lot of interesting lives to write about thus far, a fun experience so far if also busy busy. Could be an interesting concept, I will keep the door open and be sure to remind me whenever a major Aussie death arises. I do find it fun to dig in to lives that were unfamiliar to me before, but obits def have an extra depth when written by someone already familiar with them.
