6 pointsReport of the death of Joyce Sims, who had several UK charting singles in the 1980s. https://www.soultracks.com/story-joyce-sims-dies Edit: Looks like her cousin posted on Twitter - Joyce seems to have died on 13th October by the looks of it. Probably better known for Come Into My Life (#7, January 1988) but a miss for my 1986 TOTP theme team this year as she hit #16 in May 1986 with (You Are My) All And All (but who is going to pick a seemingly healthy 63 year old?):

5 pointsHad a DL-related dream last night. DeathList 2023 was out: Pope Benedict XVI was back and was no. 6 on the list, Michael Gambon stayed on and was on the Top 10, and for some reason, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was back on the list.

5 pointsIt's just all too subjective. I personally find Robbie Coltrane much more impacting than AL, at least to me! Very subjective thing, the idea of impactful deaths

2 pointsHe was born in 1920. Wikipedia's living centenarians category had him having been born in 1919, it's because of that East Asian Age Reckoning, but we have a picture of his passport that confirms he wasn't born then.

2 pointsMarie Antoinette died on this day 229 years ago, aged 37. Born as Maria Antonia of Austria, she was betrothed to the future Louis XVI of France at the age of 14. During her husband's reign, the country's debt exploded due to participating in the American Revolution, and multiple scandals regarding her arose (particularly one where she was accused of fraud). In 1789, the French Revolution began (contrary to popular belief, Marie likely did not tell the poor majority to "eat cake"), and in June of 1791, the royal family was arrested. Louis was tried and executed first. During her imprisonment, the public either advocated for her execution, exchange for French prisoners of war, or in philosopher Thomas Paine's case, exile to the United States. Marie was put on trial on October 14 on charges of high treason, and found guilty two days later. She would be executed by guillotine a few hours after the verdict- her last words were "Pardon me, sir, I did not do it on purpose", after she accidentally stepped on the executioner's foot. Initially buried in an unmarked grave, Marie and Louis' bodies would later be interred in the Basilica of Saint-Denis following Napoleon's final exile and the Bourbon Restoration in 1815.

2 pointsDaniel J. Evans, the distinguished American politician who served three terms, he declined to run for a fourth, as the 16th Governor of the State of Washington from 1965 to 1977, and six years in the U.S. Senate, is 97 today. Carmen Sevilla, the marvellous Spanish film actress, television presenter and singer who began her career as a dancer and made her film debut in 1948 with "Jalisco canta en Sevilla" ("Jalisco sings in Seville"), one of Jorge Negrete's two Spanish-made films, is 92 today. Carmen Sevilla, "Carmen of Spain" and "the bride of Spain", was discovered when she was a teenager dancer in Andalusian shows. Respected by her colleagues and admired and adored by the public, Carmen Sevilla has been, is and will be one of the biggest Spanish stars of all time. Juan Antonio Bardem's rural drama from 1958, "La venganza" ("Vengeance"), the very first Spanish language film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, is probably her best work. The film, directed by Javier Bardem's uncle, had serious troubles with Spanish censorship and Bardem even went to prison. It's an excellent drama who was one of Spain's entries in the Cannes Film Festival of 1958. Carmen Sevilla has been one of the great pioneers in caring for people with disabilities. In 2015, her Alzheimer's disease was made public.

1 pointAlways without! Would it be better to drink scotch, from the glass, in an alley? Or straight from the bottle, in an exclusive bar? From the glass in an alley, as long as it was a dirty glass. For dipping your soldier, is it best to have the boiled egg pointy end up or round end? Pointy end up. Single paper or double wide?
