4 pointsZhao Guiying dead at 106. She was a veteran of the Long March (1934-1935), WWII and the Huaihai Campaign (1948-1949). Died at the "cadre rest center" of the Meijiashan Military Division, Neijiang, Sichuan last month. Not sure how many Long March vets there are left, but atleast those ca. 17 and probably a lot (10 or 20+) more. EDIT: Xiao Yan is apparently also dead according to Sohu. Died in March at around 101.

3 pointsAnother new Nancy Burnet article. Here's the pertinent stuff: "He's going to be 99, and he takes one prescription medication and that's for his thyroid," Burnet, 79, revealed. "So, he does not take anything for blood pressure, cholesterol, the umpteen other things that most people take as they grow older." "He's in very good health for his age and his humor is still in good shape. He's had a very charmed life." Burnet said that she and the former "Truth or Consequences" host would be having a "very simple and quiet" birthday celebration at his home with "cake and the usual things." Burnet told Fox News Digital that Barker now enjoys spending his days playing board games or cards and watching sports or classic movies. "He's a history buff," she said of the former U.S. Navy aviator. "He's very much interested in history," she added "He doesn't read much anymore. But when he did, he read mostly about history, American history, wars, World War II. He's very knowledgeable about it."

3 pointsSo, more revealing possibly than you'd think. If his alcoholic intake/alcoholism is up there with the legend then denying him a drink would be a shock to his system that could complicate the current situation. If the biggest problem is that he's "pissed off" at his inability to go on the piss then we're closer to Keith Richards territory than most of us thought - which might explain his longevity and make him less a dead pooling shout than a few of us have been thinking. His missus, btw, might not be the most reliable witness here. She coped with an earlier break with him by encountering guardian angels who directed her life and helped her get back with him, she wrote a book about it - if anyone of us can be bothered to read it!

2 pointsYeah, this is sounding very bleak for Leach. If your brain goes without oxygen for that long, there's basically no way to recover. He's most likely on life support without brain function. Former Kansas State coach Bill Snyder even mistakenly tweeted that Leach had passed away, then corrected himself and apologized shortly thereafter, and has since deleted both tweets. My guess is that some in the know are probably aware that nothing can be done and that it's just a matter of when the family takes him off life support.

2 pointsAbigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kawānanakoa, the so-called last Hawaiian princess whose lineage included the royal family that once ruled the islands and an Irish businessman who became one of Hawaii’s largest landowners, died on Sunday. She was 96.

2 pointsRIP. A man as sweet, heartfelt, and poignant as his work. Especially sad after the death of Julee Cruise earlier this year.

2 pointsVery sad. TV these days is more insipid and dull than ever, only without his withering criticisms

1 pointThis is probably the best place for this…. Recently finished watching “The Vault of Horror” (1973), a film only previously mentioned on the forum at the creation of the Tom Baker thread. Due to its age, it should not be a surprise that only four of the main cast are still alive*: Michael Craig (93) - many mentions on the forum in various threads- recently discussed for notability in the Ideas & Possibilities 2023, with connections to British Science Fiction series, British Character actors threads, etc. Tom Baker (88) - needs no introduction!; appears in the film to still have his Rasputin beard from ‘Nicholas and Alexandra’. Glynis Johns (99) - perennial darling of the forum and ‘why hasn’t she been on the main DL’ question. Geoffrey Davies (79) - the youngest living cast member, probably better known from ‘Doctor in the House’; only forum mention is a pick by @YoungWillz in a 2016 deadpool. With respect to the film itself, it was a decent watch, with the notable living cast above and having also included the siblings Daniel and Anna Massey, Terry-Thomas, Curd Jurgens and Denholm Elliott. To its credit beside the impressive cast, is the running time of 83 minutes. And yes, it is an Amicus Productions film, but don’t let that put you off, unless the horror genre isn’t for you. * With any luck it will be a long time until it can be mentioned in the ‘Films with entirely dead casts’ thread.

1 pointAs the Officiant of Deathlist, allow me to say hello. Have fun reading threads and post as you wish. I do ask newbies to refrain from creating threads for about 6 months in order to see what threads we already have first. Anyway, welcome aboard. SirC

1 pointI agree with Grobler. I also like the Colts. I say Colts-Eagles with Colts winning. Maybe . But at least after last weekend I can wear my Brian Dawkins practice jersey (it was cheaper on ebay than a replica jersey !) with pride . I like Tennessee in the AFC. I think it will be a Giants-Tennessee matchup in the Superbowl

1 pointNew York Giants win Super Bowl XLII Great game! I am glad that the Giants were able to pull of the upset victory over New England. The 1972 Miami Dolphins will remain the only team with a perfect season, including the super bowl.

1 pointActually there are six former presidents and first ladies that are 80+. Betty Ford (89), Nancy Reagan (86), George H.W. Bush (83), Jimmy Carter (83), Barbara Bush (82), and Rosalyn Carter (80). So all six of them will have to die (and I think it will be awhile before all of them are gone) then we look at the Clintons and the younger Bushs, I mean Clinton has had heart problems, 10 years from now who knows what health he will be in. Also if John McCain becomes the next president he becomes a decent candidate being 71 now. So I think this is a tradition that can be kept up in the long term.

1 pointDo you mean Penelope Keith? If those clothes were still around now, I'd have to have them thrown into Room 101, too. That's her! I really shouldn't post on this website after midnight. I was obviously overtired which always makes me start ranting. I would never dream of posting something like that during daylight hours.
