8 pointsI hope Diego got a gift he liked and also took the opportunity to like the gifts he had been given for all his previous birthdays

3 pointsNo I find the trawling for dying people a necessary evil of performing well in the pools but I don't enjoy it - as it happens I could quite easily have picked someone earlier in the week and just popped on here but my mind is normally full of other stuff on my birthday (which is a good thing). I too am here for the laughs*** and also you do learn quite a lot about the dying and the dead that you might not otherwise read. It is regularly very useful in quizzes. *** I have very little interest in the super old community and super obscure never previously mentioned until they die that some are fascinated about persistently posting however each to their own. It's not doing me any harm but rarely provides the laughs or fascinating insights into famous people's lives that I am interested in.

2 pointsWORDS FROM THE COMMISSIONER: Around 8am this morning I received a message from DDT confirming his replacement captain, following the death of Brother Camillius, was your favourite and mine, former vicar general for the Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau Father Pat Travers. However, it has since been discovered that Travers' death was made public in a Facebook post around 9pm last night. While at no point has the management of the DL Cup suggested any impropriety on DDT's part, it was decided that in the interests of CFP (cadaver fair play), that he select a different captain for the round. We now await any QO for Travers.

2 pointsHate to be the bearer of bad news for my opponent, but it appears Brother Camillus Chavez died May 31st, at least according to this: https://www.stmarys-ca.edu/news/remembering-remarkable-life-brother-camillus-chavez Nice pick, though. Nobody I'd ever heard of.

2 pointsSurprised no one picked Heath Streak - this pool doesn’t really start till Sir creep comes on complaining that he’s missed the deadline because the rules are wrong. Good luck everyone - it’s my birthday on 31st May so I often dodge this as trawling dying people takes the edge off the joy of being one number closer to my own end!

2 pointsThe film below includes footage of 101-year-old ex-WW2 pilot Bernard Gardiner, celebrating his birthday flying in a Hawker Hurricane, which he last flew in 1944. Looks like he's still got years left in him!

1 pointSorry, but I have to! The misuse of "myself" is a modern curse. The test is to drop the other people and see if it makes sense if it's just you. Would you say " Myself was discussing this"? No, you would not. You would say "I was discussing this". Now put the other people back in, and the convention is that you put yourself last as a courtesy: "Joey, DI and I were discussing this"

1 pointI wouldn't lose heart yet. The wards in that seat saw a big swing to the Lib Dems in the locals a few weeks ago, with the Lib Dems topping the poll in all bar two of them, with a circa 5000 vote lead. This was on a much smaller turnout than at a general election, but the fact there was such a substantial Tory to Lib Dem vote switch suggests there is potential for a Lib Dem bandwagon there. (This is based on the new boundaries for the seat, and not the 2019 boundaries.)
-
1 pointYeah, which makes it really hard to call because there may be more Lib Dems over the line than you'd think from their current poll standings. The really lively possibility afterwards is what happens if Starmer struggles to control the hard left die-hards sill in the ranks and that scuppers his centrist plans. Clearly, one option is the Lib Dems supporting them on the back of voting reform. The downside for Labour being the remaining lefties would fuck off into their own corner and be grudging supporters at best, the upside for most parties being voting reform might be to make outright Conservative majorities an impossibility going forward. Ironically, making us very European. Interesting times, like!

1 pointThe Nolens were effectively what you fill summer season bills with when UK holidays were the norm. I saw them supporting Mike Yarwood in Blackpool in 1980. Clever marketing have lifted their profile above this albeit not their talent.

1 pointAh, I see someone is happy about my push last year to return the Herald as a QO. Am afraid to say my current attempts to get Mumsnet accepted as a DDP Qualifying Obit are being treated with far more scepticism by Reptile and Grim!
