And this old banger by Queen *grabs balls* is the best number twoooooooooooooooooo, of the 70s! Tbh I'd have been happy with any of the final five awesome songs, and it really could've gone any way. Sing us out, Freddie. Anyway, whether you like it or not (and I mostly do), this is how things stacked up: 1st: Queen — Somebody To Love 2nd: Elton John — Rocket Man 3rd: Sparks — This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us 4th: Queen — Killer Queen 5th: David Bowie — The Jean Genie 6th: Sweet — Ballroom Blitz 7th: Stevie Wonder — Sir Duke 8th: T. Rex — Ride A White Swan 9th: M — Pop Musik 10th: Candi Staton — Young Hearts Run Free 11th: The Moody Blues — Question 12th: Squeeze — Cool For Cats 13th: Elvis Presley — Suspicious Minds 14th: Deep Purple — Black Night 15th: The Police — Can’t Stand Losing You 16th: Roxy Music — Love Is The Drug 17th: Boney M — Ma Baker 18th: Blondie — Dreaming 19th: Gloria Gaynor — Never Can Say Goodbye 20th: Barry White — You See The Trouble With Me 21st: Don McLean — American Pie 22nd: Sweet — Fox On The Run 23rd: Boney M — Rasputin 24th: T. Rex — Children Of The Revolution 25th: The Kinks — Lola And, having totted up the scores for all six rounds, here's the kill count: 1st: theoldlady - 34 2nd: LadyFiona - 16 3rd: BuffaloPhil - 14 4th: Drewsky - 10 5th: MariNisia - 8 =6th: Toast, Paul Bearer, lilham, DoltonMoney, Fraudulento - 5 =11th: Death Impends, Sir Creep - 4 =13th: Commtech, Wannamaker, Imelda - 3 =16th: time, RoverAndOut, Root Inspector, Joey Russ, TQR, Wee Jum - 2 =22nd: Clorox Bleachman, Bibliogryphon, Book, ThereWillBeDeaths, Great Uncle Bulgaria, justonecornetto, Captain Chorizo - 1 Thanks for playing everyone, and @theoldlady, maybe get in an ice bath and treat yourself to a new scythe; this one'll be knackered after that psychotic run of yours. Come back later today when we'll get going in our mission to find the UK's best No.2 of the 1980s.

This is huge. Not only did I completely forget Doreen Mantle was my pick in 20/20+3 but my first thought in seeing news of her passing was the impact on this game She is clearly the pick of the more determined player because she is at least a fourth hit for almost all her six pickers. She is also the first of the Coronation Street alumni to head to Weatherfield Cemetary. Doreen Mantle ms, ro, af, gr, to, sc However the most important outcome is that we now have a player who is one hit away from victory @Spade_Cooley only needs a Brit winner to cross the line Potential winning hits 1. Phil Collins 2. DJ Minutemix 3. Andy Taylor 4. Terry Williams 5. Bobby Z Three of them are uniques picks so Spade does not face the prospect of having all their winning picks taken by someone else Game (as they say) On!!

That’s that decided. You’re not playing the 80s No.2 game.

Is this Nadine Dorries? I don’t see how it can be complicated enough to have a technicality, you’re either here or you’re not. You’ve been here ever since you ‘quit’. Either take back those words or log the fuck off. No one cares either way.

Thank you @TQR Well done! I think that's a very solid top 5 and Somebody to love a well deserved winner! All in all, the No.2 hits of the 70s didn't inspire as much as I thought, so I'm now hoping for greater hit potential in the 80s.

This has been enormous fun @TQR Thanks for running this. I am very excited for the 1980s. I started secondary school in 1980 and finished Uni in 1990 - peak music listening years

10/8/23 06:40 hrs 37 Queen — Somebody To Love +4 11 Elton John — Rocket Man -6 I would have preferred the two songs that were voted out to be in the final. Two banging tracks from two banging albums ( For the benefit of the young whippersnappers here, This Town from Kimono My House and Killer Queen from Sheer Heart Attack) Only voted for Queen as I’m not keen on Elton.

So close! Of these, I'd have got rid of Aaliyah for Pink, but this would not have been my final five at all in this round. Oh God, the X Factor lot are back next, and Westlife, and...kill me now...

Isaac Hayes died on this day 15 years ago, aged 65. - In the 1960s, Hayes was a songwriter who often collaborated with David Porter, often composing songs for the band Sam & Dave. - Hayes' breakout song was the theme song he composed for the 1971 film Shaft, which reached the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. It also earned Hayes an Oscar for Best Original Song. - In 1974, Hayes became a co-owner of the ABA basketball team the Memphis Tams, which he renamed to the Memphis Sounds. The team would be sold the following year and relocated to Baltimore. - Hayes would take a break from music to pursue an acting career, most notably appearing in movies such as Escape From New York and Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights. - Hayes' career made a comeback in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef on South Park. An extended version of the song "Chocolate Salty Balls" from the season 2 episode "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls" topped the UK Singles Chart in early 1999: Hayes would voice the character up until the Season 9 episode "Die, Hippie, Die"... for reasons that will be explained below. - Hayes joined the Church of Scientology in 1993- they were lampooned in the 2005 South Park episode "Trapped in the Closet". In 2006, a statement was made in Hayes' name asking for him to be released from his contract with Comedy Central, citing the episode as the reason for his departure. Chef was subsequently killed off in a brutal fashion in the Season 10 premiere nine days later (where he would only speak using recycled dialogue, and the plot revolved around him being brainwashed by a club consisting of pedophiles): It would soon be revealed that Hayes had not written the statement himself, but rather his Scientologist entourage. This was due to the fact that Hayes had suffered a stroke in January of that year. Hayes died from a second stroke ten days before his 66th birthday, two and a half years after the first.

I got 3 facepalms from user "mymango" for suggesting that Jimmy Carter's situation is not that urgent (in May and June). Whoever that is, I was right, you were wrong.
