The last time we saw Tears for Fears in a KoS game, they placed second in the 80's Number 2s. This time Curt & Roland managed to win the whole thing by being the ultimate compromise candidate. "Mad World" rarely moved throughout the final until the last few days of voting, where it received a huge amount of support since some voters had lost their favourite songs. Who would've guessed that a song with the lyrics "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had" would be generally popular with deadpoolers? The Gary Jules version of this song might have had a higher peak in the charts, but the original now has the highly prestigious "Won the best UK number 3 of the 80s according to the deathlist forums"™ award, whilst the cover version was going nowhere, going nowhere in the 2000s No.1's game. The other artists in the top 3 were familiar faces in these games, since they already had some decent placements in previous KoS installments, so we can tell who are the forum favourites purely based on the final results of these games. Mad World peaked at number 3 for 3 weeks in November 1982, with only Culture Club's "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me", Eddy Grant's "I Don't Wanna Dance" & Dionne Warwick's "Heartbreaker" reaching a higher position. This is how the final round played out: 01 Tears for Fears- Mad World 02 Kate Bush- Running Up That Hill 03 The Bangles- Walk Like an Egyptian 04 The Vapors- Turning Japanese 05 The Damned- Eloise 06 Cyndi Lauper- Time After Time 07 Madness- Baggy Trousers (winner in my heart ) 08 Ultravox- Dancing with Tears in My Eyes 09 Tina Turner- We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) 10 Queen- A Kind of Magic 11 Queen- I Want It All 12 Aztec Camera- Somewhere in My Heart 13 Roy Orbison- You Got It 14 Soft Cell- Say Hello, Wave Goodbye 15 Eurythmics- Who’s That Girl? 16 Bronski Beat- Smalltown Boy 17 Heart- Alone 18 New Order- Blue Monday 88 19 Yazoo- Don’t Go 20 Michael Jackson- Bad 21 Earth, Wind & Fire- Let’s Groove 22 Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark- Souvenir 23 Jona Lewie- Stop the Cavalry 24 Womack & Womack- Teardrops 25 The J. Welcome to the sixteenth edition of Kill or Save! We are now back in the 90s, and I'm sure that my fellow KoS host TQR is excitedly waiting for this game to begin. Here are the links to the previous games if you want to relive the action: 50s No.1s 60s No.1s; 70s No.1s; 80s No.1s; 90s No.1s; 00s No.1s; 10s No.1s 60s No.2s; 70s No.2s; 80s No.2s; 90s No.2s; 00s No. 2s 70s No.3s; 80s No.3s Christmas Special 2023 KoS HoF The Rolling Stones — Paint It, Black Donna Summer — I Feel Love Nena — 99 Red Balloons Madonna — Vogue Gorillaz — Dare Gotye ft. Kimbra — Somebody That I Used To Know The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale Of New York Barry Ryan — Eloise Queen — Somebody To Love A-Ha — Take On Me The Cardigans — Lovefool Sophie Ellis-Bextor — Murder On The Dancefloor David Bowie — Life On Mars? Tears for Fears- Mad World These are the rules: Each song starts with 20 points. You can vote once a day. Since we all live in different parts of the world with all sorts of different timezones, please add a date at the top of your votes to avoid any type of confusion (e.g. 18/9/24, 18th of September, Wed 18 Sept, etc.). Each day you can give 4 points and subtract 6 points to any song on the board, you can split your points between as many songs as you want. Placeholder posts are allowed, but if you don't edit your votes within 5 minutes, then the next person can go and do their votes. Consecutive votes are not allowed. Before voting, please listen to the songs of each round and vote according to your own opinions, don't vote for songs because they're high/low on the board or because of your opinions about the artist, only the song matters. Make sure you copy and paste the most recent voter's scoreboard when you take your turn to score. For your own ease, ‘paste as plain text’ to get rid of the previous poster’s formatting. Then, delete their +/- scores, add yours, adjust the song’s points total and make your scores bold These are the UK No.3 Hits of the 90s: There are 5 qualifying rounds, we begin with the no.3 hits of 1990/91, then 92/93 and so on. 4, 5 or 6 songs from each round will enter the Grand Final, where we will decide the "best" UK No.3 Hit of the 90's 1990/91: 28 songs: the last 4 songs will enter the final. 1992/93: 27 songs: the last 4 songs will enter the final. 1994/95: 29 songs: the last 5 songs will enter the final. 1996/97: 43 songs: the last 6 songs will enter the final. 1998/99: 41 songs: the last 6 songs will enter the final. With that out of the way, let's begin the Killing and Saving

So after the Sierra Leonian ballerina (wore a Tutu), Jackson (Tito), and Schillaci (Toto) should Russian pop group Tata, or footballers Tete or Totti be getting worried?

Update time: Firstly, a correction, I forgot to add an extra point to @The Immortal since Dries van Agt died via euthanasia, so he gets the unnatural death bonus. Next we have Ismail Haniyeh; he was the chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau and he held various top jobs in Palestinian Politics & Hamas-related duties during the last few decades. Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran and his death gives @Summer in Transylvania 8 points (6 for position, 1 for a unique pick & 1 for a murder). Brazilian economist & politician Antônio Delfim Netto was the Finance Minister of said country and the architect of the "Brazilian Miracle", where the Brazilian economy grew close to 11% annually. The miracle wouldn't last, and after his tenure Brazil would suffer multiple years of recessions & hyperinflations. Netto was also the minister of Agriculture, Planning and was a deputy for São Paulo for 20 years. Netto nets points for @arghton with his death (7 for position + 1 for a unique pick.) Kuwaiti sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah was the founder of the Kuwait National Guard during the Six-Day War, and he remained the National Guard Commander until his death. He gives @arghton 10 points & @Funeralopolis 2 points. Lebanese politician Selim Hoss served as that country's Prime Minister for four terms, most of his tenure was during the Lebanese Civil War. In 1988, Lebanon had no president and 2 rival governments fought for control, with Hoss leading the unconstitutional but internationally supported one. The war would end in 1990 & Hoss would be appointed as PM for a final time. After losing his parliamentary seat in the 2000 elections, Hoss would resign as PM and he ended his political career. @drol gains 8 points with his death (7 for position + 1 for a unique pick). And lastly, we have the biggest hit in this update, former Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori. He was practically unknown when he stood for president, and he shockingly won the 1990 elections. Fujimori's so-called "Fujishock" restored economic stability in the country, and he managed to put an end to the Shining Path's terrorism. He would then dissolve congress and he became a dictator. During his dictatorship, thousands of indigenous Peruvians would be forcefully sterilized & human rights violations ran rampant. Fujimori would rule until the year 2000, where a bribing scandal would break, and he went onto a self-imposed exile in Japan. He tried to get back into politics, but was arrested in Chile and he spent his last years either in jail or the hospital (sometimes both at the same time). 11 players score points with the death of "El Chino", @chilean way @Grimgrass @TheKillingTime & @Zsa Zsa's leg all get their first points in this deadpool. This is the scoreboard following this update: drol- 30 MariNisia- 24 DoorSlammer- 24 Thatcher- 22 ThereWillBeDeaths7- 20 diego- 19 Summer in Transylvania- 19 arghton- 18 Funeralopolis- 18 gcreptile- 17 The Daredevil- 17 Dying Probably- 16 Heef- 15 The Immortal- 15 Steve- 14 theoldlady- 14 Bibliogryphon- 13 Imelda- 13 Johnnas- 13 LizLemon- 13 CaptainChorizo- 10 MalePoster- 10 Prophet- 10 Brad252- 9 DeathBecomesThem- 9 DeathByArsenic- 9 Great Uncle Bulgaria- 9 Hell- 9 Commtech Sio Bibble- 8 Sod's Law- 8 chilean way- 7 The Old Crem- 6 Grimgrass- 4 ladyfiona- 4 TheKillingTime- 3 Zsa Zsa's Leg- 3 Gooseberry Crumble- 0 La Tombe- 0 P94- 0 Yvonne- 0 Please let me know if I missed someone.

I've resisted adding him to my list and did so again for this year, but he's for sure going on my 2025 list if he makes it that far. He does look like he's slipping a bit and at this age, it can fall off the proverbial cliff really, really fast. Kind of like Betty White. I thought there were obvious signs of decline in her final 12-18 months, whatever it was.

Mad World was fourth on my list of the Finalists so I think this is a fair result. However the pattern of voting makes me think this is the compromise candidate. This has been an absolutely fantastic round with a lot of strong songs. Thanks @wannamaker for the admin duties.

When 2024 began, there were 12 survivors born in the decade of 1900-1909. January 2024: 1. Maria Branyas Morera (1907) 116 2. Edie Ceccarelli (1908) 115 3. Tomiko Itooka (1908) 115 4. Inah Canabarro Lucas (1908) 115 5. Juan Vicente Perez Mora (1909) 114 6. Elizabeth Francis (1909) 114 7. Ethel Caterham (1909) 114 8. Okagi Hayashi (1909) 114 9. Pearl Berg (1909) 114 10. Tane Matsubara (1909) 114 11. Masa Matsumoto (1909) 114 12. Charlotte Kretschmann (1909) 114 From there everything is fine, but now that number has been reduced to less than half, leaving only 5 survivors too soon, I am not sure if at least these 5 people will see the year 2027 as Emma Morano arrived the year 2017, the 1910 cohort too it has been reduced to less than 10 survivors.

A Palermitan in Messina, a southerner in Turin, an Italian in Japan, had all of his best matches in a three-week period, brother stole tyres for a living, did a shit tonne of ecstasy and then made bank off adverts. Definitely a life well lived.

What a horrible badge. Looks like a year 7 designed it for their DT homework. The date has the daft American format of month first, and no space after the comma. Whoever designed it needs to be put on death row.

Never liked the Gary Jules version, but always liked Tears For Fears. Still a bit sore that Everybody Wants To Rule The World didn’t win the No.2s as that’s one of my favourites of all time. Great job as always @wannamaker, looking forward to the 90s!

Makes me sad. I saw the poll and was thinking, didn't we just loose the last person born in the 19th century. I double checked and realized it was back in 2017. Obviously, this shouldn't come as a shock as these centenarians would be only a decade younger at most than someone born in 1899. I just hate seeing another generation pass before our eyes. I'm relatively young, and am still getting use to the passage of time.
