In theory, yes. In actuality, Brits dont tend to sign government petitions these days, here are the most signed ones not destroyed. And about 6 million people signed the 2nd ref petition, only for the government to announce they didn't see petitions as democratic, so you know, a million odd on another will do about the same. This lot will hang on till the bitter end of this parliament. If folk want rid of them, they'll just need to vote then in 2024-ish and not give them another final chance.

Denis Healey died on this day 7 years ago, aged 98. Healey was elected to parliament in 1952, and in 1964, was appointed by PM Harold Wilson as the secretary of state of defense. Healey downsized the UK's military role outside of Europe, largely due to budget and committing to NATO. In 1974, Healey was appointed as the chancellor of the exchequer. When Wilson stepped down as prime minister in 1976, Healey ran in the election, placing fifth out of six candidates. Healey contested the second ballot, but still came in last on that one. Healey would retire in 1992. Healy was also known for his large, bushy eyebrows- more prominent when he was younger (compared to the above picture c. late 2000s/early 2010s), and was lampooned on the original Spitting Image show. From his debut in 2010, Healey appeared on every DeathList until his death.

Alicia Vikander, Swedish film and television actress who received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her sensitive role in the romantic drama film "The Danish Girl", is 34 today. Initially she studied dance, but injuries that required surgeries prompted her to turn to acting. Chubby Checker, American rock and roll singer and songwriter known as the "King of the Twist" for popularizing the twist dance style with his 1960 hit "The Twist", a cover of a song by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, is 81 today. The record was a huge success, reaching the number one slot on the charts in the US. "The Twist" was re-released in the winter of 1961 and was a number one on the charts again. No other rock and roll song managed to reach the US number one spot twice with identical versions. Chubby Checker won a Grammy in 1962 for his song "Let's Twist Again".

Thanks Lafaucheuse and Summer for your informative replies, greatly appreciated. Summer where is your shadow list for 2022? I was going to have a look at your list but couldn't seem to find it.
  17. 2 points
As Lafaucheuse said, your list, your choice. It is preferable to have more famous people on your list, as it decreases the chances of dying off radar, but among the people on my current Shadow List are an Antiguan Carnival Historian and one of the Equestrians that won silver in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, so as long as you deem them famous, then feel free to add them.

Time of death wrong, time of bulletin wrong and the location of Mr Edwards, who was at Broadcasting House, surely. Also, how could your cousins wife tell that he was "in bits" when he was on screen for more than 5 hrs and announced the news of the Queen's death with such measured calm?

Found an old article on Khamtai Siphandone's (98-year-old dictator of Laos from the 90s to 2006, richest man in the country) health issues from 2016, don't think this has ever been mentioned before: https://www.rfa.org/lao/daily/politics/former-president-khamtay-siphandone-had-stroke-02112016002337.html He was "healthy" (but extremely frail and suffered from high BP) until February 2016. On the 10th of February 2016 he suffered a severe stroke, was rushed to a Hanoi military hospital by plane with 2-3 of his children and was put on oxygen. Don't think there's been any actual news on his health since, last public appearance was in December 2021.
