Times death notice for Pearl Catlin (IMDb), British television and stage actress, aged 94.

Played Stella Randell in Coronation Street in the 70s. Had other roles in The Avengers, Z Cars, Emergency-Ward 10, and Dixon of Dock Green.

Spoiler

CATLIN Pearl Ruth died on 18th April 2024, aged 94. An actress of theatre and screen, she had an amazing life, full of adventures and opportunities. She was very proud and fiercely independent with such a drive for life. She enjoyed her home and her garden, and the actress within her was never far away, even at the end. She has left behind a son, two grandchildren and a great-grandson. She will be missed by so many. Sleep well.

I don't believe it as it was his partner being ill, not him.

Likely another mishap.

Sad news if true, always value for money.

In commemoration I shall have a couple of pints of the Black Stuff. I can do that.

Naw, it was something on the telly.

I'm not familiar with his stage work.

Must be this then! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1108845/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_95_act

Though he was Lennon in the original London production of JPGR&B.

Barbara Dickson is a big personality in the UK with a reputation to maintain. She would never have tweeted about his death if she hadn't been 100% sure.

Noooo :( he was a great actor. I first saw him as King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy where he had a great on screen presence. RIP Bernard Hill.

Theoden's speech at 0:55.

I've just been surprised to learn that his wife was Marianna Hill, the American actress who was in (among many other things), episodes of the original Outer Limits and Star Trek and the Batman TV show, and films including the avant-garde 1968 political protest movie Medium Cool and the staggeringly tasteless 1973 crazy-old-lady and retarded-adult horror The Baby. Much more interesting resume than all that Alan Bleasdale stuff...

For some reason I thought he was already dead. I must have been thinking of another person.

RIP.

Fun Bernard Hill trivia: 'Hill has the distinction of being the only actor to have appeared in more than one film that won 11 Academy Awards, for his roles in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Titanic'.

Kiran Shah was in both films as well, but as a stuntman not an actor (doubling for Elijah Wood in the former and various children in the latter).
