Interesting tidbit regarding Koch: His tombstone, which he planned out a few years back, has the final words of slain journalist Daniel Pearl on it. Koch's death occurred on the 11th anniversary of Pearl's murder.

Ed Koch was just on the Piers Morgan show in an interview recorded about 3 weeks ago.He said he was 'feeling great'. Just proves you should ignore anyone who says someone is doing great

Ed Koch indeed dead.

regards,

Hein

I declare Ed Kock the most significant death of 2013 thus far. That won't hold for the entire year I am pretty sure but I can't think of anyone else of greater importance that has died in the world so far this year, being a former mayor for 12 years of New York City, one of the biggest cities in the world, arguably the financial capital of the world and the home of the United Nations is a big deal.

Oh, I'm sure somebody more significant than him will be along in no time.

I declare that this forum is not America centric so, to that end, he is NOT the most significant death of the year "so far"

So there.

I can understand some discussion of the most notable deaths at the end of the year, but having random members quibbling over "most significant death thus far" every couple weeks just makes it seem like BCAlum never left.

Hmmm, user with American username in AMERICA IS THE CENTRE OF THE WORLD shocker.

If we are entirely objective, Nguyen Khanh, the former Head of State and Prime Minister of Vietnam, who also happened to sucessfully lead his tiny army against the biggest superpower in the world at the time gets my vote over someone who once ran a city for a bit.

In the history of as sport that was once America's past time Stan Musial is among the 5 or 10 best baseball players ever. Mr Koch isn't even the most significant American death so far this year.

I thought he was Canadian.

He was born in Canada, but became a naturalized American im 1946.

Geographically speaking, Canada is part of North America, which also makes him American.

Suriname is part of South America, but I doubt many Surinamese identify as Americans.

I've been told Damnyankee is both precise and widely accepted.

Hein

Your average Surinamese may not identify themselves as being American but it doesn't alter the fact that they are, by virtue of the geography. Similarly, the average Daily Mail reader may not identify themselves as being European....

Report on Twitter that former Taioseach Albert Reynolds is gravely ill. No news articles, but the account reporting seems to closely follow Irish goings on.
