I seem to remember someone suggesting that Roger Bannister was "not deathlisty". FYI his death was the lead story on the national news.

Sergei Prokofiev's death was somewhat overshadowed by that of Joe Stalin; both died on 5 March 1953.

Not sure where to put this, but I'm assuming this thread is actually read by the site owners/admins. If it isn't well it can talk to the void. I just want to take a moment to appreciate and thank the forum staff for this site's incredibly liberal moderation policy having just been banned from another website for calling a weather presenter a cunt. I'm assuming I can use that word as it's not directed and anyone on this forum, which I'd thought I could with the other forum. Utter madness to be honest. What is it with internet moderators and their power complex? This forum seems to have it right, as long as your not a complete and utter wanker you're tolerated, wouldn't the entire internet be so much less full of utter insanity than this forum if that was the case? I've probably tested your limits more than the most in the past, and I apologise for that, I'll be more thoughtful and considerate in my posting going forward. I just want to thank you for the common sense moderation policy that let's the community speak for them. I actually deserved every ban I've had on here, and understand why you banned me for it, something that other forums leave me dismayed about? People really are uptight snowflakes on parts of the internet. So here's a huge thanks to our great forum admins and moderators and a heap of praise for what increasingly seems like the only corner of the internet where you can still say what you bloody well think....

I thought the same thing when I saw her for the whole minute I watched the Oscar's last night. She looks better than most 60 year olds.

Tobe Hooper got snubbed as well. I mean, Texas Chainsaw Massacre isn’t academy material, but considering how iconic it has become, it’s surprising...

My DDP team Pity Da Foolz is currently sitting 2nd (but just a QO for Spanky Manikan out of first-not holding my breath though). I guess this qualifies me for a self assessment of my chances. RIP Falkholt, Elias, Miller, Nevin, Cryne, Goodwin (and Manikan) The good oil hereabouts suggest that Stefannsson, Stiles, Bracknell, and McCain should score, not 100% convinced about 1 or 2 of these but who am I to argue with the collective genius. The other picks I am happy with are Ricketts, Butts and Frates. I think Anne Hamilton-Byrne will die but I think she was a poor pick as she is only worth 5 points. Of the others (Lima, Willesee, Cappotelli, Nolan, Bain), I think 1 or 2 might score but probably not strong picks on balance. Predicting somewhere around 13-14 hits and 150 points-a good enough score but not enough to challenge for the podium. Worst miss: Marieke Vervoort especially if she qualifies for the unnatural death bonus (which I think is dubious for reasons mentioned earlier).

I was hoping to get a full grid this month before posting = less updates needed. But I like to get going too, so here is what we've got so far. Big scoring already with some obviously very black bananas being picked with V Goodwin and E Hannigan. Nice work, we are starting to see who the heavy hitters are going to be in this game. Remember, if you make a mistake with a rule violation (using a name in consecutive months or past use of a name at a given point value), i will not correct it unless it becomes a hit, and then it will be too late to fix it and no score will be given. Right now the grid is clean except for Prophet at the #3 slot, which can still be filled. I'm not saying I got all his albums, as I only listen to RnB tbh, but why is it that everyone time someone dies that is not an ice hockey player, you have to throw your toys out of the pram. YOu need help.

People fighting about the rules is actually a compliment to the host. Because it means that the host has created a competition that people find attractive and are eager to win. Not sure if that helps with anything.... Last year, I had a bit of a deadpooling burnout during the Cup. I can only imagine what the host - still in the competition - must feel like. This year I'm taking a more relaxed approach - to everything.

One thing I noticed with the updates (only 280 bios left to go!) is the pick of Ray Merrin, from the very optimistic Watership Down theme team. Mirrin died in January, a few days before he was scheduled to get a special award at the Baftas. The award was still presented posthumously, but seemingly no write-up of the ceremony mentioned him. Poor bastard.

He is a fairly big miss. Was mentioned a lot on forums was nearing 90 known to have had parkinsons and had not been seen in public for a long while. Also apparently he was very nearly on DL 2007 until Di Stefano had a heart attack. So yeah he is a miss. Nobby Stiles and Jacques Chirac I think will be the really big misses of the year.

So we aren't fucked! Thank goodness "The chance that there will be any permanent ice left in the Arctic after 2022 is essentially zero." (Dr Jim Anderson, Harvard University, Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry, Member of NAS) "The inevitable result of ice-free Arctic will be huge plumes of methane... a catastrophe." (Professor Peter Wadhams, the world's leading expert on Arctic sea ice) "If we don't solve it [the carbon problem], we are finished." (Wadhams) "Even if a small fraction of the Arctic carbon were released to the atmosphere, we’re fucked." (Dr Jason Box, Professor in Glaciology at The Geologic Survey of Denmark and Greenland, a leading expert on Greenland ice) "So for forty years I tried to warn people. Now I tell them it's too late and we're fucked..." (Ian Baxter, retired physicist and Green Party councillor) "We urgently need to do – and actually do – something radical to avert a global catastrophe. But I don't think we will. I think we're fucked." (Dr Stephen Emmott, Head of the Microsoft lab in Cambridge and Visiting Professor in University of Oxford and London University College, Distinguished Fellow of NESTA)

David Ogden Stiers, known for Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas, Jumba in Lilo and Stitch, as well as (although non-animated) Major Winchester in M.A.S.H., has died at 75.

Still looks remarkable for her age in that photo which we are told is recent. Not saying she’s going to last that much longer but compare her to Kirk Douglas and it’s pretty obvious who has had the better time being a centenarian. Olivia has had the very best of the lottery of life, not many look like that at over 100.
