4 pointsHaving been out for most of today and popping on here, I have to say Sheila's death hits hard. If you recall that she was probably one of the finest comedic and straight actresses of her time, it is difficult to get away from her most starring roles on TV, the aforementioned Ghosts of Motley Hall, her voice of Wellington in The Perishers, and a foil for Bernard Cribbins, Spike Milligan and Frankie Howerd among others. She is also the second death from Never Too Young To Rock after Freddie Jones, the vid of which I have already posted upon his death. Probably only second to Josephine Tewson as a female "Straight Man" to comedy legends. I am, quite simply, devastated. RIP.

2 pointsYeah, that was because while it was before my time, I know from my many years on this forum how much several posters loved Ghosts of Motley Hall. Also I knew she was fairly ever-present on 70s TV. I remember her best as the voice of Mother Nature in SuperTed. I did watch Woof but the hell can I remember any of that one 30 years on! (Which is saying something for a show about a boy who turns into a dog!) PS Her agent Barry Langford has confirmed it. She had leukemia. When the actual press deems to take notice, I know not.

1 pointOk, so I got beyond the paywall. Warren has - reassured donors she wont start a Communist revolution - reassuring the party bosses she isn't going to start a new party, or be too dangerous to support. - wants to win the House and Senate as well as the Presidency so she can actually do stuff in power. - is schmoozing/winning over the superdelegates, much in the way Bernie didn't. - is already ground campaigning in key states. What evil!!!! Seriously, this is what competent politicians running for Office do. It's what all the huge reformers in history did. FDR schmoozed, bribed and compromised his way to the New Deal. Attlee did the same in creating the NHS and welfare state. Hitler (look, he was a mass murdering sod, but you can't say he didn't completely change German society - reform isn't necessarily on the side of good) pretended to be a reformed character for long enough to get all the power. Stalin was able to portray himself as a safer choice than Trotsky, Thatcher wasn't going to change much of the post-war consensus, Disraeli was only going to change a few things to help the party, etc etc. The other option is not to sway the minds of those who can put you in power to do things (that ain't the voters) and they go for a safer pair of hands. A Kamala Harris or Hilary Clinton. If you wait and wait for an 100% pure politician, there will be no one to vote for, and a lifetime of President Trumps, basically.

1 pointhttps://marfapublicradio.org/blog/expect-extreme-heat-across-west-texas-today/ According to the safety meeting today, we reached the highest temperature in the Permian Basin since 1997 (113-115F, or about 44C). Now I'm not so sure of that 'record' but it was hot. Inside one of the vehicles said 123F lol. I tried to take a shower (cold faucet only) and the water was scalding the whole time. No fun. Not sure about the 'record' cuz I remember 112F a couple years ago for a couple days and may have been hotter. The most popular pub in Pecos TX (Trailways Bar) has no air conditioning. I remember sitting in there at 7:30pm and it was 103F (say 40C). Keep them cold beers coming! SC

1 pointIt's not actually children's programmes that I associate her with. As LFN said, she was a character actress (and a voice actress) who turned up in all sorts of radio and TV programmes, as well as on the stage. Anyway I'm not seeing an official obit yet.
-
1 pointShe appeared in the Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. film, though I suppose it depends if you regard it as canon or not. Anyway, very sad news. A marvellous comedy actress and always a highlight (not difficult admittedly) on The Good Old Days. Her books are a good read too.

1 pointShe was a member of the RSC. Yes she did a lot of kids telly but that should not be sniffed at. Making good kids telly that adults can watch without screaming is quite hard. Find an episode of The Ghosts of Motley Hall on YouTube and see a Masterclass.

1 pointMy thoughts on the remaining 44 candidates Kirk Douglas - Think he'll both make his 103rd and 2020 now. Olivia De Haviland - no guarantee she'll see 2020. Duke Of Edinburgh - More deterioration come autumn but should see 2020. Leah Bracknell - Hoping for impossible miracle regarding her terminal cancer, should be fine for 2020 at least. Vera Lynn - Not looking 100% going my recent pictures of her, wouldn't be surprised if she is a late Robert Mugabe - Just maybe his year. Jimmy Carter - Should see out this year but 2020 will be a big hurdle for him. Pierre Cardin - Think he'll all right this year but too old to be dropped. Bob Dole - Increasingly frail, no guarantee he'll see 2020. Henry Kissinger - Still able to fly across the Atlantic despite his frailty, too old to be dropped now. Jerry Stiller - Quiet of late, maybe worth keeping for the 2020 list. Javier Perez De Cuellar - Could go anytime Bob Barker - In and out of hospital, 50/50 Murray Walker - Still writing columns but still frail and now too old to be dropped. Emperor Akihito - Now retired, wouldn't surprise me if he goes this year. Betty White - Should be all right this year but we know what happened to Doris Day. Hosni Mubarak - Still looks reasonably healthy, should be dropped for the 2020 list. June Brown - Depends on when she will retire from Eastenders Stirling Moss - How is he still alive? Alan Greenspan - still makes TV appearances, easy drop for next year. Jacques Chirac - Dementia getting more advanced, think he's a 2020 goner. Dick Van Dyke - The DL committee must take the risk next year by dropping him, most stupid pick ever. Nobby Stiles - Has had end stage dementia since at least spring 2017 yet somehow he keeps breathing. Barbara Walters - getting more and more fucked. Honor Blackman - quiet of late, think she is now an ever present on the DL until she goes. Harry Belafonte - quiet of late but had to be on the DL sometime. I'd keep him for 2020. Desmond Tutu - Looking more frail, either this year or next year. Valery Giscard d'Estaing - One of the oldest ex major world leaders, think he's a lock now. Ed Asner - still active on social media, easy drop next year. Vanessa Redgrave - Still performing in theatre, easy drop next year. Jimmy Greaves - Needs a lot of care now, gone by end of winter. Sidney Poitier - Droppable if 2019 finishes on a low number. Valerie Harper - Either this year or next year. Loretta Lynn - Droppable if 2019 finishes on a low number. Mikhail Gorbechev - not too sick, could be a bold drop next year if we finish on a low number. Tony Britton - too old to be dropped but might have to be a risky drop if 2019 ends on a low score. Cleo Laine - Was an interesting pick but not going anywhere for a few years. Clive James - Game of Thrones over, think he'll gone by end of winter. Prunella Scales - No more cruise journeys for her, goner in late 2020 at least. Little Richard - Can no longer answer fanmail, too big to miss. Larry King - Divorcing 7th wife, had heart surgery this year, think he's a worthy drop for 2020. Tina Turner - Still looking great at nearly 80, wasted pick. Shane McGowan - He had to be on the list sometime but I think he'll see 2021. Ginger Baker - Getting really hard for him now.

1 pointPeter Fonda another Hollywierd guy who gave nothing of value to the world (accept maybe his kids depending on their way they live their lives).Born into a life of privilege and got a job because of who his dad was.He decided to use he lucky position to promote degeneracy instead of positivity and helpful messages. He is best known for one degenerate drug movie glamourising drugs, drug dealing and the Cheapening of life. Indirectly make no mistake about it that movie contributed to alot of drug related deaths and ruined lives through drug use. Add to that wanting Donald Trump's 11 year old son locked in a cage with pedos simply for being the child of someone he didn't like and wanting women in the Trump administration stripped naked and beaten you can see the dark thoughts that must of polluted his mind. Not to mention his alleged connections to Epstein! I hope he is enjoying he long ride down south.

1 pointI assume me, because whatever the late penalty is, it'll be more than the zero everyone else gets. Whether that means a new team for everyone else I don't know
