Pollsters suggesting the vote in that direction was shored up by a lot of "anyone but Trump" voters. Republicanism has changed for sure and if that party doesn't embrace the hard and reactionary right Trump, or someone like him will start a new party which might - ironically - be a gift to the Democrats.
