3 pointsThings I don't understand. Fiercest shelling and fighting in Mariupol and Kharkiv, essentially the most Russian speaking parts of Ukraine after the annexed and separatist areas. Why does Putin murder civilians (including children) mercilessly in the areas he is most likely to have support in the event of a takeover? Also, I tried sleeping on this but I'm just going to get it out. Our UK Government Ministers speak in almost hallowed terms about the rampant inflation and 20% interest rates in Russia, along withthe collapse in banking shares and the value of the rouble, impacting most heavily on the Russian people. Yet when Bawjaws was asked about returning donations to the Tory party perhaps being given back or away to charity, he said at PMQs that this "wasn't about the Russian people". Well of course, it's about the worst off Russian people, not the wealthy ones that line your pockets, Bawjaws.

2 pointsBecause they didn't do as he wanted. The most Russian speaking bits of Ukraine are fighting tooth and nail to stay Ukrainian, let alone the rest of it. At the risk of being a forum alarmist, I am worried that the targeting of civilians and kids is only going to get much worse. History shows up hard men fuckwit authoritarians are fucking dangerous if their egos are bruised in war. As for your second point, well, you see, and this may shock you, Boris Johnson is a complete cunt.

2 pointsThought I'd return to this one as I would like to solve it. Jean Gillespie was mainly known as a radio actress. She married stage actor Bill Thunhurst in 1951, according to this newspaper clipping. His full name was Wilford Thunhurst. He was born in 1920 and died in 2011, and after his brief acting career he became a successful Pittsburgh businessman. Here is his obituary from his local newspaper in 2011. At the time of his death, they were no longer married and his obituary doesn't even mention her. He was married at least twice (but possibly four times!). Their marriage certificate is available here. They married in Manhattan, NY in 1951. Her name is listed as Gloria J. Gillespie. Thunhurst is a very rare surname, which makes me believe that this 1964 Connecticut marriage certificate between a Jean G. Thunhurst and a Richard K. Davis is her. It also mentions that she was a resident of New York at the time... So, assuming she didn't divorce and marry for a third time, she likely died as Gloria Jean Davis or Jean Gloria Davis, around 2020. Weirdly, I can't find her birth certificate. This newspaper clipping confirms she was born in Boston, and her marriage certificates confirm she was born 1923–1924, so that leads me to believe her IMDb birthdate of 21 Oct 1923 is likely correct. This newspaper clipping confirms that her parents were Mr. & Mrs. William G. Gillespie who lived in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1951.

2 pointsVolodymyr Struk, Ukrainian former MP and incumbent mayor of the city of Kreminna, found shot dead at 57 (word of warning – don't click on the link if squeamish as there's a photo of his corpse). I know there's been a junior athlete and one or two minor military ppl, but I consider this to be the first death of note from the war. As such, @Death Impends @Paul Bearer, can you please move this thread to general?

1 pointLooks like we need a Russo-Ukraine War thread for casualties of war. Feel free to merge this if one is made. We are greatly saddened to report that the famed Ukrainian Air Force Flanker air show display pilot, and national hero of Ukraine, Colonel Oleksandr “Grey Wolf” Oksanchenko, was shot down over the capital Kyiv last Friday night shortly after his seventh air to air kill against the Russian Air Force (RAF) by a Russian S-400 Triumph Air Defence Missile System. RIP SC

1 pointHave an update....before I leave for a few days... Just like in the DDP we had big names Jane "Nightbirde" Marczewski, Isabel Torres and Catherine Wybourne, the middle one being a unique hit for Banana. Strangely, Nightbirde wasn't a joker pick, though she might just end up being the best possible choice this year. SalmonMousse gets a unique hit with Richard Blum. YorkshireBanker gets a unique hit with Beryl Vertue and finally Wormfarmer gets a unique hit with Jim Hagedorn. Ronnie Hellström is a non-obit here, so far, just like in most other pools. SiMan Baby is also waiting for an obit. I assume it's either very soon or not at all... The result is the following scoreboard: Rank Team Score 1 Salmon Mousse 539 2 msc 482 3 Banana 461 4 gcreptile 453 5 Joey Russ 363 5 An Fear Beag 363 7 Book 349 8 DevonDeathTrip 340 9 Cpt. 1 pointI’d just like to say thanks to @Death Impends for changing her avatar to this beauty. Trebek was slightly getting on my tits. Also a reminder to everyone who’s still a grey silhouette that they are utterly worthless until they get themselves a proper face. It’s not hard ffs.
