Updated this a bit. Hans van den Broek has suffered from Alzheimer's for atleast four years. Not sure about the others but René Steichen already looked horrible in 2014, and he's just 80. As Michael O'Kennedy died earlier this year, only Davignon and Baron Tugendhat remaining from the Thorn & Jenkins Commissions.

Duchess Woizlawa Feodora of Mecklenburg (1918-2019)'s son, Heinrich Reuss (1951), stylized as Prince Heinrich XIII, has been arrested yesterday for his involvement in the coup d'état plot to overthrow the German government. According to reports, he was the intended monarch for the revolutionary government. I doubt very much she’s in any immediate danger - she’s only 54, after all - but she’s clearly not destined to make old bones and she’ll become increasingly reclusive.

Not to forget that Jeremy Beadle was only 59 and pneumonia carried him off. And in case anyone thinks I'm being awful, I was hospitalised (aged 51) with pneumonia in February 2020 and it looked a bit dicey for me for a moment. Took a long while to recover too.

Oops. Ryerson index says he died on 3 January, 2012 in Adelaide as John Thomas Forde. Possible good news is that his brother Hugh who is a member of the Great Britain 1960 squad, did not appear in Ryerson index so he should be safe and he has a grandson playing in the A-League so he might not die off radar.

All in all solid list. I would suppose 12-13 hits this year. But for my taste again some unspectacular names like Sandy Gall, Gord Downie, Gay Byrne. Quite possible that they are well known in UK, but certainly not worldwide. I mean, they even dont have a wiki-entry here in Germany...on the other Hand they have renounced some big names like Chirac, Chuck Berry, Doris Day, Kissinger....but anyway I am also surprised that Colin Meads or Mario Soares were not included, in my Point of view two certain deaths this year?! What I like is the selection of Rockefeller, Pope Benedikt, Akihito and Hugh Hefner! Well done
