Alikram Hummatov, only President of the Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic in 1993, dead at 74 according to multiple sources. Abbas Sheibani dead at 91. As far as I know he was the last original member of the Council of the Islamic Revolution thay existed from January 1979 to July 1980. Khamenei, Mousavi, Sadr, Jalali, Peyman remain from the later members. Not sure if Ali-Asghar Masoudi is alive.

When you look at it like this, it's not overly shocking that so few are left and with the prominent exceptions of Ball and Moore, it's notable that by my reckoning 20 on that list made 75 plus. I'm not an actuary but statistically it does feel a bit odd that having got 20 out of 23 living to be 75 plus, none of them have so far made 90 plus. I suspect that's where the Alzheimers caused by the ball heading has really had an impact sadly.

Martti Mäkinen, Finnish front veteran of the November 1939-March 1940 Winter War (probably not that much of them left anymore) dead at 104.

I hope Janis Paige and Jacqueline White, who are some of the last surviving actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood make it to 104 just like Marsha Hunt.

Meh! I wasn't going to approve this one 'cos she's been mentioned in the Fleetwood Mac thread, but I suppose she was a songwriter too. (Don't hate me)

Did strike me earlier that 2023 is a perfect opportunity for the Cmme to utterly smash their record if they wanted to. The likely holdovers from 2022 are either notoriously old (Kissinger, Carter), ill (Charlton, Starmer-Smith, Pele, Whale), or known frail people (Tebbit). The potential returnees include Joanne Woodward (very ill for a decade), Linda Nolan (Stage IV cancer), Pope Benedict (looks like a corpse), Willie Nelson (seriously ill earlier this year, and 90 next year), Nigel Lawson (last legs for ages now), and Liza Minelli (very badly il at the Oscars) Gravely ill people who feel very DLy include George Alagiah, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Frank Field, Rolf Harris, Roberta Flack, and Johnnie Irwin. Not been so many "yeah they're obviously DL" dying names to my mind since 2009. Ill folk they could easily go for include Andy Taylor, Frank McGarvey, Steve McMichael. (I dont care about your fame thoughts, they picked Bill Gate's dad, case closed.) Then there's your frail/sick/just old names who feel DLy: Fay Weldon, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, David Graham, William Russell, Pat Robertson, Sandra Day O'Connor, Dennis Skinner, Topol, Ruth Buzzi, Sonny Rollins, etc etc. Def feel like over 20 is possible with a great, well chosen, list.

Well saying he was on oxygen is a bit of an understatement, he was on a tracheotomy connected to oxygen and possibly a ventilator and (atleast around his birthday) had a nasogastric tube as his organs didn't function properly following multiple organ failure and septic shock. The original articles saying he "recovered" used old pictures. It's a miracle he made it this far, the tracheotomy was done in November 2021. I have also never heard of anyone else over 80 surviving more than a month following a septic shock. The "brief illness" part makes me laugh. "He was reportedly suffering from age-related issues" says India Times

Aye, a real irony being that Billy Lee Riley - The Cherokee Elvis - who recorded for Sun and did his inspiration bit for British rockers was soon working in the construction industry and managed to snag a mid-60s record contract when he agreed to do an album of harmonica covers of Beatle songs.

Condition "not alarming" according to the latest news (still unconfirmed). Seems the whole thing was a bit exaggerated. Still a dead cert though.

Any predictions on how long we reckon? A few weeks ago he seemed quite well considering and he was still on TalkTV this Saturday just gone so didn't think anything was imminent, but he does seem to have deteriorated quickly.

True they were more famous overall but being a top footballer and subsequent manager puts you out there to a very wide audience.A bit like Wilko Johnson I guess.A legend renowned in his field deservedly so made number 1 even though he was beyond the household name threshold albeit very notable and close to that category .I would put Vialli in the same category except unlike Wilko if Vialli makes number 1 he will almost certainly due and very early on in the year.
