1 pointAs mentionned by arghton a few weeks ago in the idea and possibilities 2023 thread, there is a list of "last survivors of historical events" on wikipedia. The principe of this sweepstake is quite simple and is inspired by the "oldest living state leader" one. Choose a candidate among the ones listed below. No candidate can be choosen twice. Every time one of them die, the people having chosen him/her win and a new round opens. Only the 30 oldest ones of the list will appear at first with a new inclusion every time some of them die. I decided to include solely the people with a wiki page (no matter the langage) because of tracking facilities. Some of those mentioned in the list are obscure names and thus could be dead for some time or won't score an obit when they go. Here are the picks : 1) John Hemingway (b. 1919) : last surviving airman of The Few 2) Traute Lafrenz (b. 1919) : last member of the White Rose 3) Benjamin Ferencz (b. 1920) : last prosecutor during the Nuremberg Trials 4) Ray Anthony (b. 1922) : last member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra 5) Léon Gautier (b. 1922) : last french participant of the Normandy Landings 6) Ivan Martynushckin (b. 1923) : last liberator of the Auschwitz concentration camp 7) Khamtai Siphandon (b. 1924) : last Pathet Lao leader in the Vietnam War 8) Galina Brok-Beltsova (b. 1925) : last member of the 586th, 587th and 588th women's aviation regiments of the Soviet Union during WWII 9) Robert Hebras (b. 1925) : last survivor of the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre 10) Ruth Slenczynska (b. 1925) : last pupil of Sergei Rachmaninoff 11) Vasiliy Dobritsa (b. 1925) : last bearer of the Soviet Order of Glory 12) Gordon Moore (b. 1929) : last member of the Traitorous eight who founded the Silicon Valley 13) Albert H. Crews Jr. (b. 1929) : last astronaut from the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar program 14) Jamshid bin Abdullah of Zanzibar (b. 1929) : last Sultan of Zanzibar 15) Fred R. Harris (b. 1930) : last participant of the Kerner Commission 16) Thomas P. Stafford (b. 1930) : last member of Apollo 10 17) Buzz Aldrin (b. 1930) : last member of Apollo 11 18) Khieu Samphan (b. 1931) : last member of the Khmer Rouge 19) Lowell Weicker (b. 1931) : Last member of the US Senate Watergate Committee 20) David Scott (b. 1932) : last member of Apollo 15 21) Clint Hill (b. 1932) : last passenger of the JFK infamous limousine 22) Joe Engle (b. 1932) : last X-15 pilot 23) Joseph P. Kerwin (b. 1932) : last member of Skylab 2 24) Kurt Diemberger (b. 1932) : last person to make the first ascents on two mountains over 8000 metres 25) James A. Abrahamson (b. 1933) : last astronaut from Manned Orbiting Laboratory Group 3 26) Fernando Suarez Gonzalez (b. 1933) : last minister of Francisco Franco's regime 27) Marlene Hagge (b. 1934) : last founder of the Ladies Professional Golf Association 28) Boris Volynov (b. 1934) : last member of the first squad of Soviet Cosmonauts 29) Dave Burgess (b. 1934) : last recipient and nominee of the 1st Grammy Award 30) A. 1 pointShe looks like she could go on for a few more years yet. Can’t be many people 19 years after a dementia diagnosis who can still be taken out to public places and presumably be able to eat in public even with some assistance.

1 pointPhilippines Chief Presidential Legal Counsel/immortal thing Juan Ponce Enrile to hold a 99th birthday bash in three weeks. From one article: Enrile has started sending out invitations for his birthday party, which will be held on February 14 at White Space Manila, an events place in Makati. Part of the invitation read: “It’s my birthday on February 14, 2023. Will you spend your Valentine’s evening with me? Wear your dance shoes and let’s party!”

1 pointI love that bitter sweet song from one of the greatest music artists IMO. This live performance is so powerful, especially the second part of the song with Rutherfords amazing guitar solo.

1 pointIt's a simple game. Random draw, teams of eleven and, at the end of the day, reptile beats msc.

1 pointI should hope that no one puts that fact into consideration at all. If they do they’re doing it wrong. We’re to vote on the music. Billy Jean was an iconic song in every way: musically, popularity, videography, choreography. Doesn’t mean it should advance but to consider all that and say ‘aye but he was a peado’ is repugnant to the task at hand. SC [and who doesn’t like the juxtaposition of Michael Jackson and Tight Fit?]

1 pointI just noticed that the tide is high is from 1980 and was also on this list eliminated back on page 4. Having three number ones in a year is pretty impressive and must be quite rare.

1 pointThat’s fine they had much better songs than those two. Wait til 1982-83.

1 pointThe novelist Noah Gordon (89 years old) could be a recommendation for next years DL. 10 Mio. copies of his masterpiece "The Physician" were sold in 35 countries. recently there was released a movie Version with Ben Kingsley, Tom Payne and Stellan Skarsgard. The Broadway in New York is preparing a Musical for the mid of 2017 from "The Physician" and Noah Gordon "doubts he can live long enough to see it". there is something in the air if you take into account that he starts to donate some of his property.
