British born child actor turned screenwriter Paul Playdon has reportedly died aged 80: https://hmssweblog.wordpress.com/2023/05/13/paul-playdon-spyfi-writer-dies/ After appearing in such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents with Jessica Tandy, he went on to write for TV on such as Mission Impossible, Cannon and Hawaii Five-O. To my generation though, he will be known as the guy who developed the motorcycle cop show CHiPs for TV.

American singer and actor Frank Sinatra died on this day 25 years ago, aged 82. Sinatra began his musical career in the swing era with bandleaders Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. He found success as a solo artist after signing with Columbia Records in 1943, becoming the idol of the "bobby soxers". When his film career installed in the early 1950s, Sinatra turned to Las Vegas, where he became one of its best-known residency performers and part of the famous Rat Pack. His acting career was revived by the 1953 film From Here to Eternity which earned Sinatra an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. American actress, dancer and producer Rita Hayworth died on this day 36 years ago, aged 68. She achieved fame during the 1940s as one of the era's top stars. Hayworth is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir Gilda, opposite Glenn Ford, in which she played the femme fatale in her first major dramatic role. She is also known for her performances in Only Angels Have Wings (1939), The Strawberry Blonde (1941), Blood and Sand (1941), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Pal Joey (1957), and Separate Tables (1958). In 1980, Hayworth was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, which contributed to her death.

You should warn us if you're linking to the Daily Hate Mail. As it is I'll just have to imagine a slightly declined Michael Caine.

Samuel T. Durrance was an astronomer who became the 243rd person into space, and one of the first non-career astronauts to enter orbit after the Challenger disaster unsurprisingly put the kibbosh on that for a few years. He'd suffered from dementia and Parkinson's in recent years, and a fall at a care home at the end of last month put him on the radars of two Cup teams. Banana and gcreptile both get a captain hit, and as a result we have no more scoreless ties. alt obits guy 4 vs Grim Up North 0 DevonDeathTrip 8 vs An Fear Baeg 0 gcreptile 6 vs deadsox 0 Banana 6 vs wannamaker 0

Haredi Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, Prince of Torah, under 24 hours before his death at 94. In January 2010 he ruled that "time of death may only be determined when one’s heart ceases to function, without any connection whatsoever to brain activity" - he went on to live another twelve years and two months. On the 18th of March 2022 he collapsed at his home from a massive heart attack and died quickly despite CPR.

In a shocking twist of events, it turns out that not only is "Saint von Colucci" not dead, he's not even a real person. The story was a hoax. The Daily Mail fell for it, then TMZ copied it. https://www.tmz.com/2023/04/27/canadian-actor-saint-von-colucci-jimin-bts/

Larry Manetti was looking worryingly feeble on Blue Bloods this week. Only looks like he has about another 3-5 years. Reveals in below article he had a stroke seven years ago and is now in a wheelchair. One to consider for 2024? https://www.tvinsider.com/1089753/blue-bloods-magnum-pi-tom-selleck-larry-manetti-stroke-wheelchair/ On the other hand, Selleck was looking like he has another 13-15 years on Blue Bloods this week, for sure he will be the last survivor from Magnum P.I.'s main cast, which is fitting, considering he was the show's star.

I do miss when this thread consisted of amateur physicists killing themselves in home made rockets, but I saw this article this morning in the 'i' newspaper which amused me. Personal finance guru, 74, who has argued against masks, lockdowns and the Covid vaccine dies hours after being put on a ventilator with....Covid-19. My favourite quote, from a close associate: Died of a disease he said wasn't an issue - what a genius and a visionary.

Who??? And what's ironic about it? She opened the first hospice and then died of cancer. I know Americans struggle with irony, So that would be like someone who opened the first funeral director service dying?

Jim Ed Brown got the all clear from cancer a couple of months ago, however the disease has now returned. Shit he was my joker for next year. That 'disease' is called lung cancer in an 81-yr old. I knew he was dead meat. SC According to his daughter (in the quote above) she states it's not in his lungs, so it wouldn't be lung cancer. Instead it would be "insert-affected-organ-here cancer"
