Was listening an interview today with the Deputy Editor of the Economist who interviewed Kissinger last month for eight hours. He said that Kissinger had mentioned that he is planning to write two more books - one on Artificial Intelligence - which apparently he's very concerned about. Whatever your thoughts on the man's ethics (and they are somewhat dubious) that's remarkable for someone who's now 100.

I wonder if he writes (improvises?) his own tweets, most of which run along the lines of “Happy Birthday [insert jazz legend who’s long dead]”

Kissinger's son recently wrote an article about his longevity.

Sometimes this is a major blessing - elsewhere on DL there was a recent discussion that boxer Joe Bugner thinks he's 38 and his missus Marlene (who is dead) has just gone out to the shops.

Well here’s a tip. Read the fucking rules before deciding whether to enter a fucking pool. Don’t want to read them? Then don’t enter pools. It’s not that hard

So now there’s under ten minutes left to go, and I am still waiting on two teams who seem to have gone completely MIA, and frankly I doubt either of them will submit at this point. This is not the first time that someone did not submit their team on time if it still holds up, but it would be the first time it happened in round 1. This is really unacceptable from the two non submitters, and I’m not just saying this just because I’m the host. I have now sent four messages to both of the remaining members who have yet to send in a team, and they did not even respond to the messages I sent. So they will get disqualified if they don’t send in a team very quickly. Beyond that though, this sort of thing is really much more stressful in round 1. In the past when a team did not submit on time, there is usually a loser of some kind who gets brought into their place to replace the non submitted team, but because this is the first round, I can’t do that. So two teams now get a bye in round 1, and while it may be good for them to relax a bit, they also had to go through the pain of getting together a team, only for nothing to happen with them. Which means they wasted time to get something together. Beyond that, not only is it disrespectful to those two competitors, but had the two members not say they were competing only to go MIA, then two different members could’ve gotten a bye this time. Instead, because of their irresponsibility, the two members who would’ve gotten a bye had they not said their in were forced into this round that could’ve completely not happened. So four different people are affected by this one way or another and this is really disrespectful to all four of them. Now sometimes IRL stuff does happen, and it could prevent you from submitting a team. I understand that things do come back, but if this happens in the future you need to be honest with the host that you are unable to submit something on time so that they can prepare for the next round ahead of time without last minute stress. Needless to say, neither of these individuals will appear on a bye list for the 2022 cup and will be forced to compete in round 1 if they decide to enter. In fact, I am pretty tempted to bar both of them from competing in the cup again, but since banning hasn’t happened in the past with non submitters I won’t do that. I just want to make it very clear that not communicating with the host may not only affect the stress of their work but it could also affect other competitors as well as this time shows.

Well, there’s under 72 hours to enter into the cup, and here is all the teams that have entered in so far: Annami vs dvsp84 Baby Blue vs CalebH Djemba Djemba vs JoeMoneyPenny BuffaloPhil vs nantonian2013 The Old Crem vs YorkshireBanker Markb4 vs Charles De Gaulle GreatUncleBulgaria vs Gooseberry Crumble ThereWillBeDeaths7 vs GuyFromFuture Perhaps vs xXConmanXx Yes, there will be at least one match that will happen, and a few others with byes currently if their opponents don’t show. But there’s still time yet if you are one of those last minute submitters...

I suggest that for the finals only, the 3rd tiebreaker be sudden death. The first player from either team to die ends it. In the case of earlier rounds, you need a winner at the end of the month but not for the finals. It would be a shame to see a coin flip decide the champion.

I think the committee should get full kudos for this one. Not one who was featuring heavily in DDP teams and Shadow Lists so it is a good pick when it is a hit.

Holding his own normally means hanging on in there. The fact that it says very special friends and close family are visiting also sounds like saying goodbye/Bedside vigil to me.
