11 pointsOh go on then, how I'd do it, as it stands. DL2024 KEEP Dick Van Dyke, Alan Greenspan, Nigel Starmer-Smith, Jimmy Carter, Dick Cheney, Mel Brooks, Jacques Delors, Robert Wagner, Norman Tebbit, Sandy Gall, Joanne Woodward, Ethel Kennedy, Stanley Baxter, Jean Marie le Pen, Cleo Laine, Pru Scales, Yoko Ono, Robert Duvall, Imelda Marcos, Pete Murray, Bob Newhart, Willie Nelson, Dennis Skinner, Sonny Rollins, Linda Nolan. REMOVE Desmond Morris, Alan Alda, Marianne Faithfull, Angie Dickinson, Khamenei, Hal Linden, Andy Taylor RETURNEES Douglas Hurd (old and frail), Noam Chomsky (apparently very ill), James Whale (cancer well noted), David Attenborough (ancient, A list, and shouldn't be off the list), Shannen Doherty (bad mix of cancer metastases), Denis Law (ill and unusually quiet) tbh if Ozzy or Liza returned I'd rather axe Cleo Laine or Sandy Gall than take a spot from a newcomer. Too many decent picks out there. NEWCOMERS June Spencer, Glynis Johns (ancient and frail), David Graham (very frail and ancient, stroke complications), Jim Lovell, Patricia Routledge (A list and in care home now), Gene Hackman, Clint Eastwood (both 94 and too big to miss), Rupert Murdoch (sudden retirement puts him in frame imo), Brian Blessed (big guy, old and just bereaved, bad combo), Pope Francis (on his way out imo), Roberta Flack (terminally ill A lister), Tom Baker (legend, frail), Bruce Willis (huge star, very ill, 50/50 to go in 2024), Franz Beckenbauer (massive football name, allegedly very ill), Patrick Murray (terminally ill sitcom star), Esther Rantzen (terminally ill UK household name and pest), Joe Bugner (big name boxer, very ill, a very DL name), Sly Stone (music legend, very poor health), Sam Neill (big star with cancer) I chose between Glynis Johns and Eva Marie Saint, David Graham and William Russell, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin, Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo (Zagallo iller but Beckenbauer seems more DL Cmme friendly) and there was just no room for Frank Field or Michael Aspel. I dont see them going for Toby Keith, Louis Van Gaal, Janey Godley etc etc.

4 pointsI Am the Kissinger, and I Died and I Died Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of (leaving the world in a) State, has died at the age of 100. The universally beloved diplomat leaves a legacy of harmony. He maintained global stability by couping democratically elected socialists to unite governments of the world in capitalist hegemony. He successfully negotiated a ceasefire in Vietnam by kindly helping Nixon undermine Lyndon B. Johnson's peace talks so he could make sure to do them properly himself. He brought peace to thousands of Cambodians by magnanimously carpet bombing them to death. He left Southeast Asia covered in landmines to help break up any fights between passers-by and their own legs. He enjoyed a long tenure as an elder statesman, advocating for bipartisanship between Republicans and Democrats by reminding them of their common enemy: human beings. He will also be fondly remembered for his sex appeal, with a dating history that includes Zsa Zsa Gabor – a testament to his longevity that this wasn't his primary claim to notoriety among deadpoolers. The iconic hunk was also said to have topped a 1972 poll of Playboy bunnies asked for "the man I would most like to go out on a date with". In recent years, he topped similar polls among war crime police investigators in Chile, Brazil, Spain, and France, countries he unfortunately couldn't make time to visit before his premature demise. Breaking the habit of a lifetime, he leaves a trail of destruction on the leaderboard. 13 points for @MariNisia! 14 points for @The Old Crem! 15 points for @Toast! 16 points for @Pedro67! 21 points for @YoungWillz! Well, no offence, none of you were doing that well anyway. 16 points also takes @theoldlady to a total of 87, putting her back in the running for worst player 2023, but 17 points helps @msc make it to 101 – more than Kissinger can say. Good players are losing out too – 15 points go to @Spade_Cooley, who plummets to his doom like a passenger in Pinochet's helicopter. He has to settle for joint 15th with the wretched @machotrouts, while the #3 spot is taken by @Grimgrass – there's a username who'd know about killing fields. Bad news also for @Death Impends – the top 7 is kissing 'er goodbye, with only 6 points being enough to drop her to #14. And finally – shut it down! It's the end of @LizLemon's perfect game. Blerg! She saw the #2 spot and said I want to go to there. 3 points – that's a dealbreaker, ladies! (For the uninitiated, these are all catchphrases associated with Henry Kissinger.) That leaves @tracy the last remaining member of the zero points club. But how long will that last? (Spoiler alert: as long as it takes me to post Shane MacGowan's update.) 3 points"Final chapter" eh? Apparently, there was still the epilogue, afterword, appendix, acknowledgements, bibliography, endnotes, index, colophon, and dust jacket left to suffer through.
-
2 pointsReally thought Common People was going to clinch this. All of my Top 5 are out and only one of my top 10 remains. The nineties are not my era

1 pointHenry IX, Duke of Bavaria died on this day 897 years ago, aged 51. - Henry was the son of Welf I of Bavaria, and would administer his lands south of the Alps. - Henry was a major political figure in early twelfth-century Europe- he was one of the leading nobles who got German king Henry V to meet with Pope Callixtus II to sign the Concordat of Worms in 1122 (ending the lay investiture dispute), and was instrumental in the election of Lothair III (the father of his daughter in-law) as Holy Roman Emperor in 1125. - Family played an important role in Henry's life; he gained an interest in genealogy after his relative Conrad of Constance was made a saint in 1123, and commissioned the Genealogia Welforum to show their relation. - On the topic, Henry's notable descendants include his grandsons Frederick I Barbarossa and Henry XII of Bavaria, his direct descendants of the Hanover dynasty (i.e. King George III and Queen Victoria)- and possibly you if you're of European descent and look that far back in your family tree. - Henry's wife Wulfhilde died a mere sixteen days after he did. Posthumously he was given the epithet "The Black".

1 pointThere is a very clear difference between Prince Philip at 98 and Dick Van Dyke at (almost) 98, though. Whilst it is true that heart disease is a large killer of old men, it's also true that those in the best shape tend to last longer. Dick Van Dyke's internal health is clearly pretty good to be able to have the level of functioning that he enjoys. Prince Philip was hospitalised several times in his later years, and looked like a zombie - he was only walking because he was too stubborn to submit to mobility support he clearly needed, and there'd have been no question of him dancing. Betty White certainly still retained all her marbles right to the end, but from what I've seen she was certainly ailing a bit physically in her latter years and I don't think it was a huge shock that she died. It's just that everyone was so hyped about her possibly reaching 100. I'd happily see DVD dropped. It would be good to see people chosen on account of their health as opposed to just their age.

1 pointA wise man once said 'it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.' The only difference between these 'two' members and TQR is they didn't violate this proverb 8,116 times (as of this post).
