Steve Halliwell QO: https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2023-12-15/emmerdale-actor-steve-halliwell-dies-aged-77 Should be noted he is being reported as having died aged 77, so the dob on the DDP is incorrect - it should be 1946, not 1954.

Phew, the last time the 90s saw a shootout this intense, 2Pac ended up in an urn. Anyway, after that viciously fought top-10, Nina Persson finally gets the validation she has yearned for for 27 years. Some might say the result was unexpected, but you can't exactly say it's an outrage. The deserved winner of the best No.2 of the 90s is...The Cardigans — Lovefool So, the full results of our awesome final: 1st: The Cardigans — Lovefool 2nd: Deee-Lite — Groove Is In The Heart 3rd: The Verve — Bitter Sweet Symphony 4th: Madonna — Beautiful Stranger 5th: Supergrass — Alright / Time 6th: Kylie Minogue — Confide In Me 7th: Pulp — Common People 8th: Blur — Song 2 9th: James — Sit Down 10th: Natalie Imbruglia — Torn 11th: Ace Of Base — The Sign 12th: Fatboy Slim — Right Here, Right Now 13th: DNA ft. Suzanne Vega — Tom’s Diner 14th: Haddaway — What Is Love 15th: KLF ft. Tammy Wynette — Justified & Ancient 16th: Ce Ce Penistone — Finally 17th: Stardust — Music Sounds Better With You 18th: The Corrs — Runaway 19th: Alannah Myles - Black Velvet 20th: Pulp — Mis-Shapes / Sorted For E’s And Wizz 21st: Madonna — Ray Of Light 22nd: Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé — Barcelona 23rd: Natalie Imbruglia — Big Mistake 24th: Kris Kross — Jump 25th: Chumbawamba — Tubthumping There they are, the best 25. God, the 90s were shit hot. Some of it, however, was just shit. Here's the worst 25 of the game, as voted by us: Right Said Fred — I’m Too Sexy Gazza & Lindisfarne — Fog On The Tyne Various Artists — The Brits 1990 Madonna — Hanky Panky Londonbeat — I’ve Been Thinking About You Take That — Why Can’t I Wake Up With You Snow — Informer Smart E’s — Sesame’s Treet Nick Berry — Heartbeat 2 Unlimited — Twilight Zone Oasis — Wonderwall Boyzone — Love Me For A Reason Mariah Carey — All I Want For Christmas Is You Boyzone — Father And Son All-4-One — I Swear Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli — Time To Say Goodbye Peter Andre — Mysterious Girl Boyzone — Picture Of You Oasis — Stand By Me 3T — Anything Boyzone — I Love The Way You Love Me Cartoons — Witch Doctor Geri Halliwell — Look At Me Mousse T — Horny Fat Les — Vindaloo Jesus Christ. We weren't counting the kills this time, and frankly the competition was all the better for it. But I think it's a safe assumption that theoldlady did the lion's share of it. So, until the No.3s, that's the 90s done. I'm genuinely saddened. Now, before we go forwards, we must briefly go back...to the 60s! Coming soon (as in, the next few mins)

Why a french deathlist you may ask ? Well, why not ? This site is filled with french-speaking, french enthusiasts and other french nerds who fight every year to see their favorite names included on the official list. And what a disappointment to see, year after year, that our wishes, like most of those expressed here, are not listened to by the committee (ie. Bernadette Chirac)… And as there is no such thing as an official French Deathlist site or forum (except this weird one), we began to loose hope of ever being adequately represented… Fear not ! The official French Deahtlist is coming soon ! The little community of french deathpoolers on this site have gathered in the last few months and after many talks, endless dithering and hasty reorganization (Cf. Gerard Collomb and Emmanuel Leroy Ladurie) we came up with a list of 50 french-speaking personalities (and not exclusively french per se) whom, we think, could die in 2024. This list was made possible thanks to the involvement of @BeretBleu @etib80, @Fantomasss, @La Tombe, @thadee and I. A special thanks to @Book whose help and example with the DACH list have greatly facilitated our task ! We will only post here in english and only on news about our 50 picks. Others news and talks about french personalities will take place in the French Speaking Deathlist thread. Every time a hit occurs, we will post it here, cross his or her name on the list on front page, and I'll make a quick recap on the deceased hit. We hope it'll be successful and that you'll enjoy it The official list will be unveiled on the eve of the 31st of december or on the morning of the 1st january. Till then… Bonne chance !

You’re back! That’s nice. It’s another edition of Deathlist’s jovial jukebox of judgement, Kill or Save! We are exploring the top end of the UK music charts, from the 60s right through to the 00s, and we’re going great guns in our quest to sort out the best songs which fell just shy of reaching the coveted top spot. The nailbiter of a 90s final saw the top 10 virtually inseparable for what felt like a couple of years, but eventually, a hugely surprising top-2 shootout saw kitsch little Swedish bop Lovefool crowned the winner of an accolade that frankly dwarfs anything you’ll see in televised awards ceremonies: deathlist.net's Best UK Charts No.2 of the 1990s. So, that was the 90s, but before we move forward, we must go back. The 60s was an interesting decade. People were wearing new types of clothes, going out to new types of places, smoking new types of stuff, and experimenting with new types of music. Rock, pop, soul, psychedelia, tunes your nan hummed along to, it’s all here. So come one, come all: we have 128 of such things to whittle down to 1. Oh joy. A big fat congratuwelldone is in order, for this is our 10th edition of the game! Over 400 days, over 16,000 posts and quite the hall of fame we’re building. (see most recent game) Fancy reliving all the action? See below for links to all Kill or Save games to date: 50s No.1s; 60s No.1s; 70s No.1s; 80s No.1s; 90s No.1s; 00s No.1s; 10s No.1s 50s No.2s; 60s No.2s (you are here); 70s No.2s; 80s No.2s; 90s No.2s; 00s No.2s; 10s No.2s 70s No.3s; 80s No.3s; 90s No.3s (IN PLAY!) Christmas Special 2023; Christmas Special 2024 KoS HoF Bobby Darin — Mack The Knife The Rolling Stones — Paint It, Black Donna Summer — I Feel Love Nena — 99 Red Balloons Madonna — Vogue Gorillaz — Dare Gotye ft. Kimbra — Somebody That I Used To Know Dean Martin — Volare Barry Ryan — Eloise Queen — Somebody To Love A-Ha — Take On Me The Cardigans — Lovefool Sophie Ellis-Bextor — Murder On The Dancefloor Bastille — Pompeii David Bowie — Life On Mars? Tears For Fears — Mad World The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale Of New York Queen — Bohemian Rhapsody / These Are The Days Of Our Lives A quick reminder of how it works: - Each song starts with 20 points (whether it deserves it or not). - You can only vote once a day. To avoid any time zone confusion, please put a date at the top of your scoring post (e.g. “Fri 15 Dec”, “15-12-2023”, whatever, as long as it’s clear and doesn’t just say “today” or some shit.) - Once a day, you can award 4 points to and subtract 6 from the songs of your choosing in the current round. You can split your daily +4 and -6 between as many songs as you like, it’s down to you. - Ideally give a little listen to any songs in the list you don’t know already before voting. You are, after all, voting based on how good/bad you think each song is. I know it takes a few mins of precious time, but hey, it could be an education. - Please do bump off any songs you dislike/consider to be the weakest link, but don’t for fuck sake just knock them down because they’re scoring low. This is meant to gauge collective opinion, it’s not a massacre and we’re not pushed for time. Be tactical, be contrary, but be true to what you actually think. - Make sure you copy and paste the most recent voter’s scoreboard when you take your turn to score. For your own ease, ‘paste as plain text’ to get rid of the previous poster’s formatting. - Just to make it clear for everyone, please mark your scores after the song title and adjust the song’s points total as you go. Ideally make your scores bold too. As an example: 24 Absolute Tune — Slaps +4 20 Ignore — Lift Music 20 Bland — Drowning In Beige 19 The Cleveland Steamers — Dog Egg -1 16 Ear Piss — Left To Die 15 Shite — Hateful Bilge -5 Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, so I’d just like to shout out to all of our careful and attentive players who are shit hot on any potential errors that may arise. This here is serious business don’t you know, so thank you for keeping things in order. See, below, the complete list of UK No.2 songs from the 1960s. I’ll warn you, it’s not all good: God. As ever, we will start with 5 group stages, beginning with the No.2 hits of 1960/61, followed by a grand final consisting of the 25 songs that have qualified, where we will ultimately decide what the undisputed best No.2 single of the 1960s is, and the artist of said song will, pfft, I dunno, spin in their grave probably? 1960/61: 17 songs - the last 4 songs will make the final 1962/63: 26 songs - the last 5 songs will make the final 1964/65: 23 songs - the last 5 songs will make the final 1966/67: 36 songs - the last 6 songs will make the final 1968/69: 26 songs - the last 5 songs will make the final Right, sound the alarms in the residential home, for it’s time…to Kill or Save.

Lovefool is my personal No.10 in this final so it's a song I really like. However, Groove is in the heart, my No. 3, is more iconic imo.

Here's a small but important update to brighten up someone's Friday morning. Only 2 hits to report since the last update, unless you know of any more obscure names who have decided not to celebrate Christmas this year. 5th December: Norman Lear 12th December: Fusa Tatsumi Lear exiting the stage has brought some respectability to @tracyand @WhoamIwho are now safely in mid table (and above me). More significantly, @LizLemonhas squeezed into contention, rising up into 6th place and within 2 hits of the leader. A joker will not do it, as our leader @gcreptilehas her Roberta Flack joker covered. Of even more significance is the demise of Tatsumi, a Joker hit for @diego who sprints up into third position within a hit of the leader. I bet he likes that!. Here is where we stand with a little over 2 weeks to go. Late drama anyone? Gcreptile (2204 points) 12 hits [Burt Bacharach, Chris Snow, Daniel N Paul, Frederic Forrest, George Alagiah, Grant Turner, Haris Ibrahim, Henry Kissinger, Johnny Ruffo, Menahem Pressler, Roland Griffiths, William Consovoy] Dying Probably (2069 points) 10 hits [Betty Boothroyd, Harry Belafonte, Hazel McCallion*, Henry Kissinger, James L. Buckley, Nigel Lawson, Rosalynn Carter, Sandra Day-O’Connor, Shane MacGowan, Tony Bennett] Diego (1955 points) 9 hits [Felix Sienra, Fusa Tatsumi*, Gianluca Vialli, Giorgio Napolitano, King Constantine, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Shane MacGowan, Wei Wei] Wannamaker (1935 points) 12 hits [Bob Barker, Frank McGarvey, George Alagiah, Giorgio Napolitano, Henry Kissinger, King Constantine, Martti Ahtisaari, Milan Kundera, Pervez Musharraf, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Ted Kaczynski] Thatcher (1897 points) 10 hits [Federico Bahamontes, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Gina Lollobrigida, Josh Ackland, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris*, Rosalynn Carter, Ted Kaczynski, Tony Bennett] LizLemon (1738 points) 7 hits [Burt Bacharach, Frederic Forrest, Henry Kissinger, Norman Lear, Rosalynn Carter, Sandra Day-Connor, Tony Bennett]

December Will Be Magic has suffered from not being on many compilation albums. I think I bought my daughter at least three different Now Christmas albums over the years and it was on none of them. I did eventually find a compilation with it on which my Brother-in-law had but that was so old it contained Another Rock and Roll Christmas

The game could be over in 3 moves (hope to fuck not!). Or it could be over in 17. Tbh the only one of the three I suspected might make the top five was Bitter Sweet Symphony. I'm genuinely amazed the other two are here and fighting until the very last.

@arghton@wannamaker@ladyfiona Hello, I know it's a little bit late, and I have been procrastinating a lot (I would have done it a lot sooner if my PC had gotten fixed earlier), but here are finally the results of the Alive List. I'm currently sick, so I thought this would be the perfect time to complete this project. Ladyfiona could be leading if Geoff Brown is still alive, which is highly unlikely, as there is a 22-year-old obituary of him circulating on the internet with a different birth date than in his public records, but the same wife nonetheless. So, I count him as dead for now. The rest of us all have only 44 folks alive, so the difference would be marginal anyway, and the flu season could change the outcome quite a bit. There is time until December 31. With kind regards, Maybe the worst host in all of Deathlist Forum History and certainly the laziest. Lists: Argthon (34/40): 1. María Isabel Rodríguez 2.
