4 pointsSuspending Israel for a song with propaganda in it when other countries have already been expelled (Belarus) or outright rejected (Georgia) is not "anti - Israel". It's called breaking the rules of the contest and facing the consequences. The song is called "October Rain", that's certainly not a creative decision.

2 pointsTbf, he DM'd me last night and we spoke for a bit and I'm satisfied that he's merely a lurker of 12+years who joined up a couple of years back.

2 pointsThere's a difference between clinical depression and intolerable unhappiness, but there seems to be a reluctance nowadays to acknowledge the latter. It is not "mental illness".

2 pointsMost likely we will have again a Japanese WOLP. After Ceccarelli's death and Itooka becoming world's 2nd oldest person there is now a very strong possibility for her to become WOLP since Maria is already nearly 117 and recent posts in her social media point to a worsening health. Concerning Kame Uema if she gets validated it would mean we still have a Top 10 full of 114+-year-olds.

2 pointsManohar Joshi (1937-2024) "One day I will become the king of Immortals and MyMango will spam my thread all day long!" (Joshi's shattered dreams) "Close but no cigar" (Murli Manohar Joshi) Age at death: 86 Known health issues: suffering from brain cancer after years of failing health, he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage in June 2023, putting him in a coma for good. Back then the chances of recovery were bleak, but in December he was giving interviews for his 86th birthday. Hospitalised in very critical condition in February 2024 after heart attack. Cause of death: Heart attack. Alignment: Seemed reasonably a nice guy, differently from his namesake Murli Manohar Joshi, who has a reputation of being an asshole.

1 pointHarold Ramis died on this day 10 years ago, aged 69. - Ramis' passion for comedy began in college, when he wrote scripts for satirical plays. He would become a member of the Chicago Daily News' entertainment section, and from there, became the joke editor for Playboy. - Ramis would soon become closely associated with John Belushi, who invited him to join National Lampoon's radio show (along with Bill Murray). He would then join the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, but left in 1979 to pursue a film career. During his time on SCTV, he would help write the script for Animal House, and is credited as one of the film's three writers. - Ramis would also co-write Meatballs and Ghostbusters- the latter of which, he starred in his most famous on-screen role as Egon Spengler: Ramis was also the director of Caddyshack and Groundhog Day. In addition to this, he would also direct four episodes of The Office. - Ramis contracted autoimmune vasculitis in 2010, and died from complications of the disease four years later.

1 pointRussia is a past winner but it didn't stop it from being kicked out. As an Israeli I hope that Israel will receive this slap to the face, as it is run by fascists and scums (I mean... same as the UK but you catch my drift)

1 pointI do this every year a list of the names on my 1000 name longlist that are not captured in DDP picks 1. Gloria Whelan (b.1923) – Writer 2. Paul Goldsmith (b.1925) – Racing Driver 3. Hermano da silva Ramos (b.1925) – Racing Driver 4. John Rhodes (b.1927) – Racing Driver 5. Jane Gardam (b.1928) – Writer 6. Pamela Hicks (b.1929) - Aristocrat 7. Caroline Graham (b.1931) – Writer 8. Maurice Gee (b.1931) – Writer 9. Alex Soler-Roig (b.1932) – Racing Driver 10. Katherine Paterson (b.1932) – Writer 11. Jeremy Isaacs (b.1932) – Media Executive 12. Alf Dubs (b.1932) – Politician 13. Johnathan Gash (b.1933) – Writer 14. Sylvia Engdahl (b.1933) – Writer 15. Lance Gibbs (b.1934) – Cricketer 16. Giorgio Armani (b.1934) – Fashion Designer 17. Erich von Daniken (b.1935) – Writer 18. Susan Cooper (b.1935) – Writer 19. Norman Foster (b.1935) - Architect 20. Nuria Espert (b.1935) - Theatre Director You will note that there are a lot of Writers (for my theme team) and Racing Drivers - the later is because I included all the most popular picks from the Scavenger Hunt in my long list and the Racing Drivers were older and more obscure Now it is possible that I have missed some of these due to how they are recorded on the DDP page as opposed to my list so if any are wrong do let me know (there are quite a few 1935 names and I had to arrange them by birthday to know which ones to include). I already found that I had forgot to remove John Nettleton from my Long list

1 pointA decision that makes little commercial or artistic sense. Reading between the lines here, it's the aged creative team that have killed it off, potentially this show had the immortality of - say - Coronation Street, but that would have required those that created it passing on the brand to new generations of writers. Wallace and Gromit will doubtless go the same way in a couple of decades. Nah was well past it's sell by date really, in any case will continue to churn out repeat fees (37 years worth) for some considerable time, pretty good retirement fund for all concerned. Think Wallace and Gromit will die when Peter Sallis does, really can't see anyone replacing him as Wallace really made the part his own
