5 pointsIt would appear that there have been some stirrings at the top, and at my age you cannot afford to ignore stirrings for too long!. A mini flurry of deaths, with some big name picks and some important hits, so probably time for an update. I am tempted to wait a bit and see what the story is with Noam Chomsky, but he could do a Jimmy and see the year out, so I will go for it now. Here is who I have: 9th June: Simon Cowell (not that one) 11th June: Adam Lewis 11th June: Francoise Hardy 11th June Tony Lo Bianco 17th June Dario G (Paul Spencer) 18th June Anouk Aimee 18th June: Willy Mays That small selection has yielded a huge upheaval at the top of the leaderboard. Two players managed a Cowell/Hardy/Dario triple, with a Dario joker hit to boot. Top of the pile is now @Funeralopolis, who becomes the first player across the 1000 point threshold. They are closely followed by @BuffaloPhilin second. @gcreptilebriefly took the lead with Cowell (not that one) before relinquishing it 8 days later - they now stalk the leader in 3rd, with @Hellvery closely behind in 4th. @John Key's lead from the previous update only lasted 6 days and in no time at all they have dropped down to 7th. Top 10 is as follows. Full leaderboard on page 1 Funeralopolis (1018 points) 8 hits [Dario G*, Dave Myers, Derek Draper, Francoise Hardy, Frank Field, Jonnie Irwin, Rob Burrow, Simon Cowell] Buffalo Phil (955 points) 7 hits [Dario G*, Francoise Hardy, Frank Field, Iris Apfel, Jonnie Irwin, Juan Vincent Perez, Simon Cowell] Gcreptile (797 points) 10 hits [Corey Williams, Frank Field, Franz Beckenbauer, Jason Smith, Jonnie Irwin, Josip Manolic, Paul Vachon, Simon Cowell, Thomas Stafford, Zhang Lixiong] Hell (794 points) 9 hits [Charlie Bird, Derek Draper, Frank Field, Glynis Johns, Jonnie Irwin, Josip Manolic, Rob Burrow, Simon Cowell, William Russell] Toast (783 points) 8 hits [Anouk Aimee, Dave Myers*, Francoise Hardy, Frank Field, Glynis Johns, Jonnie Irwin, Rob Burrow, Toby Keith] GrimUpNorth (778 points) 9 hits [Dario G, Dave Myers, Derek Draper, Frank Field, Jason Smith, Jonnie Irwin*, Rob Burrow, Simon Cowell, Toby Keith] John Key (773 points) 8 hits [Anastasia Zavorotnyuk, Derek Draper, Frank Field, Joe Shannon, Jonnie Irwin, Josip Manolic, Rob Burrow, William Russell] Arghton (720 points) 9 hits [Abdul Taib Mahmud, Beverly Lahaye, Jaako Valtanen, Ma Shitu, Paul Vachon, Solihin GP, Swami Smaranananda, Tin Oo, Zhang Lixiong] MariNisia (681 points) 7 hits [Alice Munro, Glynis Johns, Gudrun Ure, Jack Burke Jr., Thomas Stafford, Tony Lo Bianco, William Russell] Etushispushingupdaisies (669 points) 8 hits [Derek Draper*, Francoise Hardy, Frank Field, Franz Beckenbauer, Jonnie Irwin, Rob Burrow, Simon Cowell, Toby Keith]

4 pointsWell, he has been released from the hospital: https://www.dawn.com/news/1840611/noam-chomsky-discharged-from-brazil-hospital Probably according to his wife's wishes. "The treatment would continue at home". Obviously, he's never going to recover or speak again.

4 pointsI got a Reform leaflet the other day. The dog started barking his head off like he usually does when post arrives, so I told him to stop. When I saw what had been posted, however, I told him to resume.

4 pointsJust has a leaflet pushed through the door from reform. The candidate looks like he is one conversation from his head exploding If I had seen just his picture and asked which party do you think he is standing for it would definitely be Reform

4 pointsI'm surprised the tactical voting mob didn't call themselves the Campaign to Unseat Nasty Tories

4 pointsI agree he's not what I would call "well", but I think the general consensus that he's barely clinging to life is probably a bit of an exaggeration. Not that I think he'll go on for years either or anything, but he could definitely be a coffin tease type who doesn't die for a little while yet. Per that article earlier this month, his wife wants to take him from Sao Paulo to a beachside apartment in Rio de Janeiro where he'll continue his rehabilitation (which may have already happened given the posts that were made while I was typing this lol). That makes me think he's probably not, at minimum, strapped to a bed hooked up to machines, and is more like your typical stroke zombie in a wheelchair where there isn't anything else particularly "wrong" with them. His current health saga reminds me a bit of Lê Đức Anh, who had a near-fatal stroke aged 97 but still lived another year and a half "rehabilitating" or however long it was (I'm sure there are some older examples who lived even longer).

3 pointsI've never seen the point of this as a separate topic. There can't be anyone whose hospitalisation couldn't be reported in an appropriate thread.

3 points2023 Matthew Perry, 2024 Matthew Parry: could it be time to add Matthew Porry, the minor league Floridian pickleball player, to your 2025 lists?

3 pointsSounds like a TOTP act from 1988. "And up next with Totally Doomed, a new hit from Ross and Holden."

3 pointsWillie Mays, noted American baseball player and this round the pick of Tracy, has succumbed to heart failure aged 93, giving us hit number 6 and bringing the game just two steps from completion. His death also is the thirteenth since this round began in November of someone played in any round, almost equalising the board 6-7 ahead of Chomsky's, who was selected in both previous rounds, probable demise. Please let me know if I have missed any hits.

2 pointsThe devastating news of the passing of Willie Mays begs the question: who the fuck is Willie Mays? Still, never mind, it's a hit. The first, indeed, for Don't Fear The Reaper who, at this rate of hits, will have a full house by mid-2038, so watch out everyone. Well bat my balls and call me Willie...it's another scoreboard: Banana - 4 Engineer - 3 GuyFromFuture - 3 En Passant - 2 Newjack - 2 Grim Up North - 2 Book - 2 Great Uncle Bulgaria - 2 Spade Cooley - 2 CaptainChorizo - 2 gcreptile - 1 Death Impends - 1 RoverAndOut - 1 Charles d’Irlande - 1 Joemoneypenny - 1 Dying Probably - 1 Toast - 1 BuffaloPhil - 1 TQR - 1 CalebH - 1 markb4 - 1 time - 1 Don't Fear The Reaper - 1 Everyone else - Naff all

2 pointsThing is, you know that, I know that we all know that and still... Labour have lost at least five elections in my parents lifetime because the Tories have convinced swing voters Labour will tax them. It's a precedent based on recent history that if they are at all honest before the election they don't get elected. I don't like it but I can understand it.

2 pointsI remember in 2017 James Acaster joked about what a UKIP-Green coalition would be like, where he said "they're going to be planting lots of trees which from the air spell out "fuck off home!""
