Jimmy Carter is a good metaphor for the list. There is not a single fucking reason why the list should not score, exactly as there is not a single rational reason for him to be still alive. This list risks to be the worst in more than 30 years, and it is not even remotely as bad as it was sometimes. Carter, Chomsky, now even Van Dyke are on the clock. Laine looked horrible last year. Skinner was on his deathbed five years ago. Starmer-Smith was already a cadaver there years ago. Whale and Nolan have had "terminal" cancer forever. Woodward has one of the longest Alzheimer's cases in America. Hackman looked dead last year. Law has been sick for years, yet he is the only elder footballer not to cop it. Rantzen has another alleged terminal cancer. Flack has fucking ALS at 87. Rollins has suffered from years of pulmonary fibrosis. And even without them, Nelson, Castro, Marcos, Bardot, Le Pen and many others are over 90 and could go at any moment (most of them have also been very sick in the past). Jimmy is just the tip of the iceberg, what's going on is nonsensical. It was nonsensical in July and it is even more nonsensical now. If you want to see it from another perspective, it's a miracle.

Watch us suddenly get like 10+ more hits, between now, and Dec. 31st. lol

Oh shut up. You just read some headlines, decide you agree with some but not others, and post accordingly. You don't really have the faintest idea what you are talking about with the possible exception of the nationality of the workers who fixed up your parents house. Get a grip.

Robert Wolff has died aged 103. Luckadoo and Rasmussen may not be the last 2 survivors, as since your post in March, 2 deaths of 100th Bomb Group veterans that weren’t on your list have been reported : John Alden Clark died aged 101 on 14th July. Joe R Urice died aged 100 on 26th August.

Because he's registered to vote in Georgia.

Biden was the first Senator to support Carter; they have a long history. It looks natural for Biden to read the eulogy. I believe Carter himself wants to stay alive for this vote. That fits his belief system and personality.

My own perspective at this point is that it could absolutely have been better (Irwin, Field, Doherty were all misses imo), but at this point it is utterly ridiculous just how long some of these have kept going. I didn't necessarily think it was an especially great list when it was revealed but 4 hits by October is some incredibly bad luck.

A dog in that state would be humanely put down without another thought. I really want to believe there's enough left of Jimmy in there for him to consent to being kept alive like this so he can vote, but... Jesus...

If it was actually his will, i'd agree with you, but as i'm reading between the lines, it appears to me that it is more his families desire for him to vote in the election. If that is the case, there is nothing noble about it.

I'm really starting to question how up front his family is being when they talk about his enthusiasm to vote. One vote isn't going to make a difference, and President Carter has done more than anyone in the U.S. to fulfill his civic duty. If he is as mentally aware as his family is claiming he is, they should be encouraging him to let go. No need to prolong his suffering for an election.

Yes, it is distressing to see. He does not look like someone who's able to eat or drink much if at all. I hope they're not just prolonging his suffering by feeding him using a nasogastric tube or something like that.

How on earth can he vote in that state

I also cant help thinking looking at his Birthday images that his wife Rosalynn would have been deeply distressed that these were taken let alone made public. She always loved Jimmy dearly and was immensely proud and defensive of him and his legacy much like Nancy Reagan was with Ron.I think if she could see him being paraded out on his deathbed looking like a mummified corpse she should simultaneously turn in her grave and weep.I cant help but think if she was alive and of sound mind she would have kept him indoors and not let him be seen in such an awful state in the same way Nancy never allowed Ron to be pictured in his final years except for a 90th birthday picture which was tasteful and not degrading. This picture is the epitome of degrading. There is no way he can consent to his pictures being taken at this point.I couldnt make out his children in the wider picture.Wonder if any of them off the record agree with me. At his stage in life and health only his relatives and closest friends should be granted access to him there is no justification to showing a dying man in such a compromised state to the general public.Makes me quite angry as political leanings aside I really like Jimmy Carter as a man and an individual and I feel he has done so much good to the world over his long life and governed with integrity and conviction and to see him shown like this feels beyond wrong. If I am ever dying( as opposed to sudden death) I would hate to be shown off publicly in such a way and if anyone dared to show such pictures of my family in this state I would be so angry and devastated.

Very easy to say when you’re literally the user who proposes 250 names of “must haves” for next year’s list.

Fujimori's a war criminal who had been exaggerating his health for a decade.Graham is a voice actor so it's east to see why maybe they didn't think he met the fame leve threshold to make the list. And Delon's major health decline wasn't made public until January. Irwin,Field and Doherty though should have 100% been picked given their health status and fame level's.

At this rate, we can expect 1-2 more hits for the rest of the year. In other words, the worst DeathList of the 21st century to date, and worst since 1993. The DeathList 2024 is a major disappointment, so many unnecessary misses (Irwin, Field, Hardy, Doherty, Delon, Earl Jones, Fujimori, Graham) despite a fair number of chosen candidates who are inexplicably still with us (Carter, Starmer-Smith, Chomsky, Woodward etc).
