You read that right. 30 years of the DDP. A mighty milestone few could've envisioned when it was a local 90s affair that had its own trophy. 2024, despite an overall hits tally on track to break the record, felt fairly arid on the headliner and competitive fronts, perhaps portending a mighty 2025 enema. Whatever happens, @time, @Banana and I are once again here to guide you through it... Dear Jimmy - either die in the next week, or go all the way to- wait, I wrote this before... THE RULES are near exactly what they were last time, with the only edits done being updating all instances of 2023/2024 to 2024/2025, and changing The Times' URL from .co.uk to .com. IMPORTANT REMINDER: The spreadsheet method of entry that began in 2021 remains in service. The 2025 spreadsheet, identical to the 2024 one in all but filename, can be found here. It is heavily recommended to use the spreadsheet as means of entry to reduce Banana's workload as much as possible. If you are absolutely unable to work with the Excel spreadsheet, still make sure to recheck GUN's DDP entry guide thread from 2020 to make the formatting of your email as smooth as possible.

For the official list I think he's a necessary drop, for shadow lists it depends how many you need to get rid of, personally I'm keeping him as I have the room but if you need the extra space he's a safer option to drop than most 'terminally ill' people.

Ian Redpath, Aussie batsman of the sixties and early seventies, dead at 83: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/former-australia-opener-ian-redpath-dies-aged-83-1460416 Signed up for Packer as I recall, to not much effect as he'd been out of top cricket too long by then.

As no-one objected, I will try to run this this year. If I fuck up big time, feel free to execute me or summat. Same rules as always, copypasted from the previous year's thread. Joey's bit copied: Wait a second, it's that time of year already? Man, time does fly by fast. So here we are, another year of the annual Advent Avalanche, with the following objective and rules: 25 entrants (24 quickest off the mark plus your host). Competition opens on 1 December with the aim of getting a winner by Christmas Day. And those Rules in Full: 1 - The object of the AVALDP is to WIN. 2 - To enter the AVALDP a contestant must have: A candidate not selected by another other entrant. A candidate in this context means a living person aged 18 or over not being executed within that month who remains alive at midnight on November 30th and is considered likely to cease living soon after and also be capable of gaining a qualifying obit see rule 9 below upon death. 3 - Entries open at 7:00am EST (that's 12:00 PM GMT for the brits) on 30th November and close at midnight (GMT) on 30 November. Entry can only be made by posting the name of a candidate on the AVALDP thread on the Deathlist. 4 The competition is deemed to be open at 00-01 GMT hrs on 1 December 2024. 5 Competition ceases on the death of the first nominated pick on the list of candidates and the winner is the dead pooler who has selected said candidate. 6 Entry is limited to 25 players (24 who are obliged to post entries on the AvalancheDP thread and the host who reserves a right of entry as the master of ceremonies for this endeavor). Presumably the artistic intent is obvious but in case you missed it the idea is to get 25 players to compete for a death within 25 days thereby giving us a victory by Christmas Day at the latest. If you're snoozin you're losing. 6a Because he has forced his own entry arghton guarantees to respect the first 24 qualifying picks and only enter a candidate unselected by the others. Thereby ensuring the really hot selections go to others. 6b - hot selections? No idea why people are picking Karen Gillan tbh... 7 - In the event that two players select the same candidate the allocation of the pick will go to the player who first posted an entry for that candidate even if the entry times are within the same minute. 8 In the event that two players tie for victory on the basis of picks expiring on the same day all efforts will be made to ascertain a winner on the basis of the actual time of death. For these purposes local time of death will be translated to GMT if required. 9 - An "obit" in the context of the AVALDP is any news report in English from a reliable source. Such sources include - but are not limited to - UK national press, UK national broadcast organizations, foreign press and broadcast organizations with an English language thread to their communication, trade press in English, local news organizations reporting in English and coverage in specialist online sites, such as those monitoring the well-being of super-centenarians. Where dispute arises over the qualifying nature of a news source for obit purposes arghtons decision is final. But he wants fast and furious competition and is generally very amenable to low hanging dead pool fruit of all varieties. 10 The Raymond Hewlett Memorial Award applies to the AVALDP. In honor of everybody's favourite Maddie-implicated paedo scum a candidate widely believed to be alive when the winner is declared and subsequently proven to have died previously will be awarded victory in the event that a AVALDP qualifying obit subsequently appears for said candidate. In the event that a AVALDP qualifying obit for the candidate is subsequently proven to have existed prior to commencement of the AVALDP all points will be voided. RHME points are only available during competitionand in the event that a winner has been declared before discovery of a qualifying RHME candidate no revision of the final result will occur. Similarly, if some lucky candidate is awarded RHME victory and this victory once declared is proven to be spurious by late discovery of a qualifying obit; the lucky winner will be allowed to keep his/her lucky win. 10a To ensure smooth operation of rule 10 the period for discovery of result altering obits is deemed to be 48 hours plus the remainder of the calendar day in which victory is first claimed. In other words two days and a part of another day. 11 - If an obited death occurs during play of the AVALDP and is missed despite Arghtons half assed efforts to stay in touch and/or the spirited efforts of AVALDP participants and said death is missed in totting up points, after which a winner is declared, then this death will not count for competition purposes. The same is true in the case of a known death gathering a late obit and therefore allowing some other competitor to be declared a winner. All disputes relating to rule 11 will be resolved by the astute judgement of mss and there is no appeals procedure (though all sides of opinion are warmly invited to liven up the AVALDP thread by venting their fury). 12 - In the event that Deathlist editing options or other online trickery is discovered to have been employed in the editing of entries, those duly fingered for such cheating will be removed from the AVALDP and banned for life from subsequent entry into AVALDPs. 13 In the unlikely event that a pick selected on 30 November fails to mark the start line the entrant selecting said pick will still be deemed to have entered the competition and will have until midnight 1 December to select a new pick (unselected by other entrants). Should the entrant fail to do so no other entrant will be allowed in as a replacement. AND FINALLY... On completion of AVALDP activities the thread will get lively for a short while as losing contestants and spectators offer well-deserved congratulations to the skillful and highly talented new champion, after which time it is expected that the cooling corpse of the thread will be allowed to gently sink into oblivion. Now you know the rules, here is the list of competitors and their choice of candidates: 1. YoungWillz - Billy Connolly 2. drol - Jimmy Carter 3. theoldlady - Jean-Marie Le Pen 4. Based on @The Old Crem original game back in 2022. The game is simple. Pick 20 celebrities who will have a child in either 2025 or 2026. Rules: 1. Teams have to be sent in by 31/12/2024. Please send teams to me via PM and do not post it on the thread until after deadline to avoid copycats. 2. You can pick either the mother or father of the child, but the parent has to be a celebrity. 3. You score points once the celebrity, celebrity's partner, surrogate gives birth or the adoption of a baby under 8 weeks old is announced. 4. The qualifying source is either a newspaper report or a post on verified social media account belonging to the Celeb or their partner. 4. Celebrity is defined by the pick having a Wikipedia page that existed before 1st December 2024. 5. You can't pick both likely parents of the same child in the event that both mother and father count as celebrities. 6. If there is any public doubt as to the identity of the father of the child, then the pick will be 'lost'. 7. Picks must be legal (i.e. the parent must be over the age of consent in their home country) 8. No pregnancy that has been officially announced or reported in a Q/O source as a strong rumour is allowed. 9. Any pregnancy that is announced between now and the deadline will not be eligible for points and you can chose to then withdraw that celebrity and replace them (but can also keep them in case their have a second birth in 2025). 10. Each team is allowed one joker who can gain double points. 11. If pregnancy is announced and there is a misscarriage or still birth then player gets half points (10 points turns into 5 etc). 12. Player will get certificate of participation if no points by end of the year. Certificate of frustration if all your picks are football players, meaning it's harder to find updates due to transfer news etc. Age of parent at time of birth: Mother: 17-30: 10 points 31-35: 15 points 36-40: 20 points 41-50: 40 points 51+: 100 points Father: 17-30: 10 points 31-40: 15 points 41-50: 20 points 51-60: 40 points 61-70: 70 points 71+: 100 points Let the predicting commence.

Hoops-A-Daisy! Basketball college coach and Hall of Famer Lou Carnesecca is a slam dunk for LadyFiona. I think that's all can be said about this pick. However, it's looking increasingly unlikely they can be caught. This hit means they are about 4 hits ahead of their nearest rival. However, we have seen Decembers of Death in the past, so no giving up hope in this last stretch. No bonuses, leaderboard updated.

What are peoples thoughts on dropping James Whale? I'm honestly undecided if i'm keeping him on my shadow list.
  20. 1 point
Whale might be the first celeb I'm 100% sure is deliberately trolling deadpoolers. That's like four years in a row now he's come out with "yep, looks like the end of the line for this ol' bag of bones" in late November/December, only to show absolutely zero signs of being close to death for the other 10.5 months of the year.

Well I said "I expect" and "but who knows". As @Master Obit correctly pointed out the other day, at that age it's all up in the air. Look at Germany's Charlotte. She was one of the healthiest looking supercentenarians, and she went before many of the living corpses. Similarly, I'm shocked that Ethel Caterham has outlived Tinniswood.

Just thought I'd nip over to check on the old lady over the road, and fair play to her, at 96, she had all the Halloween decorations up, cobwebs and insects in the windows and a skeleton on the couch. She always makes a big effort, but there was no answer. I'll pop back next year.
