A bit more than half of our participants thought Denis Norden would be alright for another 365 nights. He instead takes his longest pause yet, moderately shaking up the scoreboard, and while theoldlady stays in first place, she's dropped just enough to have to share the podium with John Key. Also, ten teams now place below the guy who used Random.org to decide his names. My word... =1. John Key 9 =1. theoldlady 9 3. Grim Up North 12 4. machotrouts 17 =5. deadsox 20 =5. Joey Russ 20 7. I mean how many people liberate Belsen, write the most famous line in British movie history and also helped keep numerous Soho sex shops in business throughout the 70s and 80s? Respect.

His early comedy writing with Frank Muir was a joy to hear. Very little touches that standard today. Very little. A long time coming, but very sad when it happens. RIP.

Thread for the South African rogue developer/investor/eccentric billionaire Elon Musk. Let me see, why was he in the news lately: - calls the Thai cave engineer a pedo and gets sued for it - wonders about taking his company off the stock exchange publicly, crashing its value - now under investigation by the US justice department - smoking a joint on a recorded radio show - says he works 120 hours a week Did you know there is a video of him with a flamethrower? I think he was always a bit on the cooky side, although he really had great success with his first enterprises, including Paypal. But he might be heading for some kind of total meltdown.

RIP, I loved him in that thing he did with that other British guy on that British network.

That's a shame, I always liked his little meandering comedic tales on My Word (basically, mishear a common phrase and explain it...), and the TV goofs stuff was frequently on. Good age though.

Re McLaren's marketing "genius." He said so, the band - notably Lydon - begged to differ and the photo above pretty much explains it. McLaren's view of punk often involved reviving some elements of the teddy boy rock 'n' roll fashion he loved and claiming in retrospect that disasters - like shambolic gigs, Bill Grundy interview etc. - were moments of anarchy he had masterminded. Either way, they fell apart after one blistering album and made the most money they'd ever seen with revival gigs 20 years after the first wave - for which McLaren was nowhere in sight. Jon Savage's book England's Dreaming is worth a read btw

Just in case anyone had any doubts about Rupert, his role in bringing down the Australian prime minister a few weeks ago has been exposed: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-18/liberal-leadership-spill-rupert-murdoch-kerry-stokes-influence/10262552

I mean at this point is there some way to auto-vote for Wouk everytime a new poll goes up, until such time I'm actually right? It's been nearly 2 years...

If that’s true I bet he had Ustinovs hands.

It means I can get by on a technicality when I'm accused of being Scouse, but Lancashire has its own problems and St Helens is particularly grim. All the rumours you hear about Norfolk are actually true of St Helens. It's well known locally for being the incest capital of the north and they're all really fat as well. Just take a look at Marie Rimmer to witness what the average St Helens local looks like. So yeah, to the rest of the world Lancashire sounds better but Lancashire is a big county. I have a Manx passport now anyway as lets face it the UK in general is a bit shit.
