I for one would love to be here 100 years from now and have tickets to the Rolling Stones Farewell Tour

That's the guy from Octopussy! I was struggling for his name earlier. He was in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home too.

The more I hear from GB the more I like him. He is a long way from the 1980s irritant who would appear on TV-am in ridiculous jumpers. He has a self deprecating awareness now which is quite fun and he is extremely erudite.

That's the guy from Octopussy! I was struggling for his name earlier. Om Puri mentioned above was also very much a "oh that guy" when he died, though I didn't recognise the name. Although I don't get why Channel 4 sold East is East as comedy, it's bloody grim. Glad I didn't suggest Art Malik as he was born in Pakistan and that's a whole can of worms...

I am not going to pile on the committee for this miss. He was not on my shadow list. He was not selected in 20/20 game. He only scraped onto The Crowdsourced list because of the 25 returning rule. It is not a shock because of his advanced age but he clearly wasn't expected to go this early. I think Gyles Brandreth would be a fine replacement on Just A Minute he understands the legacy of NP and would want to honour it. The only concern is that Paul Merton has only kept playing it because of NP.

On the other hand, Terry Jones had FTD and died 5 years after diagnosis. Means he's due, maybe even overdue. I'd pick him for sure in the Cup if I were you.

Yes, agreed. Threads merged. Although if we get a proper Black Death style apocalypse event, I reserve the right to open a new one.

@DevonDeathTrip We have an Ebola thread, do we really need this? Can't this be merged and renamed 'Ebola and other viruses'?

I will say a prayer for him. Radio 2 wouldn't be the same without him. Hope it's not more serious than he's making out.I remember Terry Wogan said he had a back problem and would be back in a few weeks , next thing we heard he had died of cancer. . We don't want Fearne Cotton or someone taking over !

I do sleep and miss out on plenty of obits I check for, only to see someone else has posted. But that doesn't mean I don't intentionally try to beat the pack to the punch as often as I can.

My first death of the year ticked off. Despite this, Nicholas Parsons will be sorely missed. My father and I used to listen to Just A Minute regularly - was one of the few things my father and I both liked. RIP to this broadcasting legend.

I know the death of Nicholas Parsons has been noted on his own thread but I just thought I would mention it on here because of the brilliant part he played in the Dr Who story Curse of Fenric. One of the most memorable guest actors from the classic series .Ironically they just released the boxset of the series he was in yesterday ! Think I'll watch the story again in his honour ! http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2020/01/nicholas-parsons-1923-2020.html

An update on the current state of teams with under 4 days to get a team in... JiroemonKimura vs Old Crem LizLemon vs Ethushishispushingupdaisies FixedBusiness vs The Unknown Man Annami vs Grobler HDS vs Great Uncle Bulgaria An Fear Bag vs Markb4 DeathByArsenic vs Sean Wormfarmer vs Joemoneypenny Djemba Djemba vs Yorkshire Banker Skinny Kiltrunner vs Sir Creep Updated list of entries. Bold means you’re in, not bold means I haven’t received your entry yet. So that’s 3 matches guaranteed to happen then, and three potential matches where no one has submitted a team yet. Though I’m pretty sure at least one person in each of those three draws are last minute folk.

Oh man I miss the days of the DeathList when we only talked about really famous A-list celebrities like Baroness Blatch and Walter Cronkite's wife.

I'd think that a theme team has to reasonably be some kind of small minority to be picking from. Allowing a team that can be picked from ~50% of the world's population doesn't seem particularly on. But, it depends whether the theme team league is a "fun" thing or a competitive thing. Let's get statistical and weight teams based on the percentage of the overall population that their team consists of. Therefore, a hit in the "all male" or "all woman" team might be weighted at 0.5 based on women/men being approx. 50% of the population. Then, on the other hand, selecting a team from the cast and crew of the 70s film for masochistic children, Watership Down (like my better half did a couple of years back) would afford each hit a weighting of ~100/7.5bn. So, if Ray Merrin had received a QO, then he'd have been worth the standard number of points divided by (100/7.5x10^9) which would have meant Merrin would have scored ~3*10^8 points for her (300,000,000) compared to only 8 points for the hypothetical person selecting Merrin for their all male theme team. I think we can all agree that the simplicity and satisfaction in appropriately awarding niche teams would go a long way towards making the Theme Team League a more highly respected competition.
