I reckon Holly would still be alive today if not for the crash. Ditto Ritchie Valens. The Big Bopper would have died at some point in the 1990s.

Just remembered that Buddy Holly's widow is still alive currently aged 88, as is his older brother, Larry, who is 95. Feels very weird to me (almost John Tyleresque) given the length of time since Buddy Holly died.

I haven't read the whole thread and I dare say it's been mentioned before but there is a clear correlation between population density and Covid death rates, isn't there. Belgium, the one country* to have done even worse than the UK, has 973 people per square mile. Britain 725, Italy 518, France 319, Spain just 240. Yes France, with a similar population to us, has more than twice the land area. Germany is in the middle somewhere with 603. They managed the first wave well but have lost 47,000 in four months or so. And if you extract England from the rest of the UK our density goes up to a whopping 1,118. On that basis perhaps we haven't done any worse than might have been expected. *with at least 10 million people

The case of D.B. Cooper still remains a total mystery and to date it is the only unsolved case of aviation piracy in U.S. history. Sheridan Peterson (wiki), who was perhaps the last of the major suspects in the case, died in early this month aged 94. Several of the people who researched the case closely were determined it was him. Peterson never confessed but would frequently toy with the media. The case will be 50 years old in November, as such likely it will never be solved.
