1 pointOn this day 70 years ago in 1952 New Zealand boxer and Olympic gold medallist Ted Morgan died aged 46 from lung cancer .A non smoker , his cancer was suspected to have likely been caused by fumes he inhaled whilst working as a plumber. He won a gold in welterweight boxing at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. Impressively he won his gold medal despite having a dislocated knuckle in his left hand throughout the tournament. He was the first athlete from New Zealand to win a gold medal. On this day 42 years ago in 1980, american stage and screen actress, singer and sex symbol Mae West died aged 87. She was known for her lighthearted risqué jokes , comments and double entendre. Her husky delivery of sexually themed witty comments, especially on stage, were legendary but shocking and taboo to many at the time. Her film credits include I'm no angel (1933), My little chickadee (1940), She done him wrong (1933) and Myra Breckinridge(1970) - were she famously had a strong personality clash with her costar Raquel Welch that resulted in Welch throwing shade at Mae West in interviews for decade after Mae had died. Mae often indulged in witty one liners trying to convey a wish of a kind and one of her enduring sayings/quotes is " when I'm good I'm very good but when I'm bad I'm better!" On this day 15 years ago in 2007 british bodybuilder and actor Reg Park died aged 79. The Yorkshireman won the Mr Britain bodybuilding contest in 1949 and went on to win the Mr Universe title three times-1951, 1958 and 1965. His physique was in demand in the movies for a time. He starred in 5 movies, playing Hercules 4 times.

1 pointGabriel Matzneff ought to be on the French list. The French Jeffrey Epstein. Old, lonely, ostracized... Gabriel Matzneff — Wikipédia (wikipedia.org) And now, that the last great generation of French actors (Depardieu, Auteuil) are over seventy and work less, one has to pay more attention to the health of Fabrice Luchini, Vincent Lindon, Didier Bourdon, Thierry Lhermitte etc. Some of the best actors of the 21the Century. I will be very sad if something happens to them.

1 pointIt seems a little early, I know, but a. People aren’t really taking advantage of Next Year’s Creativity Thread, and I’m still seeing lots of clutter in the ideas and possibilities page, and b. I’m feeling very bored right now and have nothing else to do right now So here’s the page to try to get your Ozzy Osbourne’s on the 2018 list, and to try to pray for your King Michael’s or Leah Bracknell’s to make the starting line because you made an idiotic choice of not picking them on your team. Then, of course, this can also serve as a reminder to the committee for certain picks that are actually good or are interesting enough to be a serious cult pick. I’ll start with a cult pick: Sidney Poitier...

1 pointI bet you aren't. [comment snipped for brevity] I agree by and large with your comments. I think mr Rutte's approach, practical rather than confrontational, is the rational one. I also know that what he most wants now, the facts, is difficult to get while there's a war on. There's a much larger goal, which is to bring the people responsible for the crash to justice. For that to happen we must first learn who that are. I'm certain that "taking every opportunity to get attention for this" is a necessary condition for the investigation, I'm not convinced it's sufficient. In this kind of game it's the result that counts. It'll take time for results, if any, to become apparent. Just for the record: I didn't vote for mr Rutte. He's the only PM in town, so I'll have to make do. regards, Hein
