2 pointsAdolfo Pérez Esquivel, the famed Argentine activist, architect, painter, professor, sculptor and writer who was awarded the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize for his activity for the protection of democracy and human rights for the people of Latin America, is 91 today. In 1977, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel was arrested and imprisoned, without a trial, for 14 months in which he was repeatedly tortured. Jamie Rose, American actress, primarily a television actress, who is probably widely known for her regular role as Vickie Gioberti, one of the young characters in the famous 1980s soap opera "Falcon Crest" from 1981 to 1983, is 63 today. Jamie Rose left "Falcon Crest" after only two seasons due to creative reasons, and she was replaced by Dana Sparks.

2 pointsStephen Hillenburg died on this day 4 years ago, aged 57. Hillenburg was a marine biologist who used a comic he created, called The Intertidal Zone, to educate his students. Among its characters was "Bob the Sponge": In 1987, Hillenburg left his job to pursue a career in animation- Hillenburg would direct many episodes of Rocko's Modern Life during its run from 1993 to 1996. After production on the show ended, Hillenburg pitched his own show to Nickelodeon- originally under the working title of Spongeboy Ahoy!, it got greenlit, and in 1999, premiered on the network as SpongeBob SquarePants. Hillenburg would occasionally provide voices, most notably as Potty, the puppet parrot of Patchy the Pirate, the president of the SpongeBob Fan Club (below). Hillenburg served as the showrunner from SpongeBob's inception until 2004, following the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (that was intended to be the series finale). Hillenburg would eventually return to the show in 2014, and worked on the story to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, released in 2015. In March of 2017, Hillenburg announced that he was diagnosed with ALS, and he died after a 20-month battle. SpongeBob's 20th anniversary special ("SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout") and the third SpongeBob movie (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run) were dedicated in his memory.

2 pointsInteresting fact : in 1904, there was approximately 1 600 000 000 humans on earth and among them, only one survived, Lucille Randon. Wonder how many people born in 2022, there will be left in 2140 (if ever there is a year 2140)

1 pointApologies for the delay but I’ve just been thinking about this (I asked back in December about whether Welsh obit sources could be included as there are Scottish ones). I don’t know much about circulations so I’m not sure what papers to suggest if the Western Mail wouldn’t qualify. I wondered if S4C’s Newyddion website might be appropriate, seeing as it is similar to the BBC, ITV and C4 sources as the news website of a free-to-view major UK TV channel. S4C is the Welsh-language equivalent of Channel 4 and has major BBC involvement. I believe the content on the Newyddion website and the BBC News Welsh-language site (accessible from the main English-language BBC News page) is usually the same. Both sites are part of BBC News, one more obviously than the other. Then I realised neither would possibly qualify, even though BBC News does, because of the written English rule. That rule makes sense, and I imagine it’s a core rule of the entire DDP, but it does rule out a lot of possible Welsh celebrities who might obit in Welsh - and we are British, after all! I’m sure there’s lots of reasons why it wouldn’t make sense to make an exemption for Welsh but I thought I may as well be cheeky and broach the subject!

1 pointPope Benedict XVI is a must-have returnee. "Big miss" is used too often here, but Benedict would genuinely be a big miss if he died off the list. I'd like to see Willie Nelson, Linda Nolan, Joanne Woodward, Yoko Ono and Barbara Walters back on as well. For newcomers, Rolf Harris is an obvious one if he somehow sees 2023, as well as Roberta Flack. Fay Weldon (now in a nursing home), James Earl Jones (91, diabetic, retired as voice of Vader this year), James Watson (has been in frail health since a car accident couple of years back) and King Constantine II (in declining health for some time) are others who are ill and famous enough for the front page. Martti Ahtisaari (Alzheimer's, survived two bouts of COVID, and hasn't been seen in public for over two years now) should qualify as well. This is a bit biased choice, but I think Patricia Routledge should make her debut next year. She is 94 next February and was in a wheelchair in some of the recent pics, plus she is very Deathlisty. She is still making public appearances, but so did June Whitfield and Geoffrey Palmer until shortly before their deaths!

1 pointGood Evening/Afternoon/Morning, A quick googlecheck has told me what the keno is (a lottery of sorts?), and I must say it seems jolly exciting. Unfortunately, being a resident of the United Kingdom where we don't have such a competition, my information would be plucked purely from the ether, thus I'm afraid I can be of little help in the matter - however, I wish you all the fortune on earth, sir/madam. A tip for this weekend's 2,000 Guineas will be forthcoming after I've had a few words with my fellow on the inside, Knuckles McLaverty. Until then, au revoir, Armitage Shanks MBE
