He's my MP. Can confirm. There is a reason local residents call him Absent Adam. Not had anything through the post though about elections coming up (I vote by post).

I can see that there's a thread for Genesis members, as well as one for pop stars in general, and one about hard rock/heavy metal musicians. So it's time for a thread exclusively devoted to prog rockers, if I might say so myself. As progressive rock was most popular from the late sixties through to the mid Seventies, many of these musicians are aging and almost all musicians from the classic era of prog rock are now over 60, and most are considerably older than that. Generally speaking, prog rockers have not tended to abuse hard drugs like heroin and cocaine, unlike many other musicians from the same era. Nonetheless, age is surely catching up with them and in years to come, there will be more and more potential for DL hits. Of course, the same will be true of other musicians from the sixties and seventies to a large extent, but progressive rock is a distinctly recognisable genre that reached a peak at a certain time then went away again and never really regained its significance after the punks came along. Hopefully, this can serve as a "broad-church" thread for all musicians whose work is on the progressive / avantgarde / bloated / pretentious side of things. Thus in addition to regular prog rock, it could also include musicians working in subgenres like krautrock and Canterbury scene. This year alone, we've lost Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream, David Allen of Gong, and Chris Squire of Yes. None of these would have been particularly bad DL picks. All are notable enough to have been reported by the UK media. Even the death of Glenn Cornick, an early bassist in Jethro Tull, was reported by the BBC last year. So there's no question that most prog musicians at least from the more prominent bands would get an obituary. I've stated that one to watch is John Wetton of King Crimson / Asia with his cancer (and a history of other health problems). Whether you like this genre of music or not (and I'm well aware that while many despise it, there are many that love it), one thing's for sure: there's a lot of potential for DL hits here that will only grow as the years go by. Thoughts?

King Constantine II of Greece, king of Greece from 1964–1973. He turns 83 years old next year and has been seen using a wheelchair for a while now. He was in hospital in 2018 after having a stroke. And was in hospital with covid-19 in January this year. He did not attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II this year. I don't think he has much time left.

George Washington died on this day 223 years ago, aged 67. You may have heard some misconceptions about Washington. 1) The "I cannot tell a lie" cherry tree incident- that was a story made up by Mason Weems in his biography of Washington to inspire the youths of the nation's moral compasses. 2) His teeth were made of wood- Washington began losing his teeth to tooth decay when he was 24 years old, and by the time he became president in 1789, he had one real tooth left. His dentures were actually made of ivory, brass, gold, and... teeth that he bought from his slaves. Anyway, here's how he died: Washington went out for a ride in the snow, and the next day, complained of a sore throat. His chest became congested that night, and the next morning, had difficulty breathing. From there, Washington's doctors arrived, and began bloodletting, which was of no benefit- five pints of blood were drained from his body (about half of all blood in an adult). Washington died around 10:30 that evening- it was the last day of the week within the last month of the year of the last year of the 1700s. Modern scholars believe that he simply had viral epiglottitis, and that the bloodletting exacerbated his condition (Washington would've lived with modern-day medicine). Following his death, shockingly enough, King George III- his main adversary in the American Revolution- ordered Royal Navy battleships to lower their flags to half-mast, and one London newspaper wrote "the whole range of history does not present to our view a character upon which we can dwell with such entire and unmixed admiration". Washington declared his slaves to be freed in his will, although this did not occur until New Year's Day in 1801.

Lack of news, there's not been much news about him during the last years. I'm doubting the Closer Weekly article saying he's "a bit forgetful but doing fine". He's had atleast two, some have said four or five strokes, blocked carotid arteries and other heart problems, cancer multiple times, falls...A miracle he's still alive.

Miller also designed the Rocketeer suit for the titular film and sculpted the basic prosthetics for Davy Jones' tentacle beard in the Pirates of the Caribbean film, among many many other credits. One of great those unsung heroes of film props and effects. RIP.

US actress & singer Madeline Khan died 23 years ago today. She worked as a singing waitress while a student, later auditioning for roles in the theatre, making her professional debut in the chorus of Kiss Me Kate. Her film debut was in the short De Duva (The Dove) before landing the role of Ryan O'Neal's fiancée in What's Up Doc?, then with O'Neal again (plus Tatum) in Paper Moon, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. A further nomination was received for her role as Lily von Shtupp in Blazing Saddles. She was also nominated four times for Tony Awards, winning in 1993 for The Sisters Rosensweig, plus for four Golden Globes, and an Emmy in addition to winning a daytime Emmy for an ABC Afterschool Special. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1998, she continued to work while receiving treatment, and also got married, but the cancer spread rapidly, and she died the following year, aged 57. Conicidentally, Scatman John (see above) and Khan shared the same birth and death-days.
