Urbain Le Verrier died on this day 146 years ago, aged 66. - Le Verrier was initially interested in chemistry before becoming an astronomer, and would be the director of the Paris Observatory from 1854 to 1870, and from 1873 to his death in 1877. - Le Verrier would study the orbits of comets, and was able to prove that some of their orbits were slightly altered after getting too close to Jupiter's gravitational field. - Le Verrier's most famous discovery was being one of the co-discoverers of Neptune, and he was able to pinpoint its location by using mathematics to explain perturbations in Uranus' orbit. Neptune was found within one astronomical degree of Le Verrier's predicted location. - Le Verrier would attempt to use the same mathematic formula to find a planet closer to the Sun than Mercury- it is now known that there are no planets closer, and Mercury's orbital aberrations were proven through the theory of general relativity. - Le Verrier's tombstone features a large sphere featuring the Zodiac atop it:

Longtime Italian politician Giorgio Napolitano is the next hit here. He practically did everything in Italian politics: Deputy, President of the Chamber of Deputies, MEP, Minister of the Interior, Senator for Life, and President. His death completes the trifecta of Italian electoral deadpool picks, following the deaths of Berlusconi & Forlani. He is by far the most popular hit in the pool, giving points to 12 users. @theoldlady, @chilean way, @tracy, @P94, @Thatcher, and @Hell all get their first points of the game, leaving 2 users still at 0 points. @diego is now in second place, while @MariNisia and @The Old Crem share the number 3 spot. @DeathBecomesThem is still at the top, but only 1 point separates first from second place.

https://www.cartercenter.org/news/pr/2023/jimmy-carter-99.html If they're announcing events for his birthday on Oct. 1, his situation probably isn't as dire as his grandson has made it out to be. I say he'll go between mid October and the end of December.

I am sure he is not in a building other then his home. Hospice care is not just hospitalizatioin. Hospice care are nurses coming to your home to keep tabs on you and make sure your meds are right and to make sure you are comfortable. A lot of time, Hospice Care is for the Family. As in my case with my sister, I was awaiting the Hospice crew every day so I knew that I was doing the job correctly. I am sure no one is waiting for a bed.

22nd September 84 Lady Gaga - Bad Romance 80 Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl 46 La Roux - Bulletproof 39 Lady Gaga - Poker Face 35 Estelle ft. Kanye West - American Boy 31 Pink - So What +2 30 Lily Allen - The Fear +2 19 Girls Aloud - The Promise 18 Duffy - Mercy -6 Christ, this is getting difficult. All these songs are good, once we get rid of Duffy I don't know what else can go? In a top 8 this strong, I can't see how Gaga gets 2 through, but in all honesty I'd rather Poker Face went through than Bad Romance, but I can see that battle already looks lost and I can see the attraction of Bad Romance. I don't think anybody should give up on any of these, it could still see anything through, Vote how you feel on the day and see what happens!

I've wondered for a while if Murdoch was any kind of inspiration for the unretireable Mr Burns. One of the best gags ever in The Simpsons is the revelation of how Mr Burns continues in rude health and fit (or as fit as he'll ever be) to manage a nuclear power station. The gist being that despite being over 100 he suffers from "Three Stooges Syndrome" a condition whereby he has a collection of terminal diseases all lining up to kill him but their continued efforts to break through and deliver their killer blow is hampered because every other disease is also trying to get through - consequently, they collide like the Three Stooges for whom a standard gag was that they all tried to get through the same door at the same time, meaning they got stuck.

Yeah he is at home.Longest I have known anyone be on hospice care is 20 months and they only died because they contracted the Norovirus not because of their terminal illness per say. I doubt he is on a hospice program that provides general palliative services at home.More likely he has his own private nurses and Doctors. These probably even cared for him and Rosalyn before he was put under hospice care.

@La Faucheusere: Make a list of 20 names + 3 subs who could die between 1st of October 2022 and 1st of October 2023. @Lafaucheuse Are you going to do this game again after this one has been completed? I think it is a good game.

I forgot I was in this pool for a hot minute but I just went through who I posted on page 2 (James Earl Jones moved to replace Pele and Morgan Freeman to replace Pope Benedict - if wrong then correct me). I found that I should be listed as having 3 correct deaths because Rolf Harris, Shoichiro Toyoda and Kenneth McAlpine have died. @John Key
