21 février 2024 Hit n°4 La Sainte Chérie au Paradis Retrouvé Legendary actress Micheline Presle has died aged 101 to provide the French Deathlist with another quick hit. Presle was born in Paris in 1922 and started her film career in 1937. In 1940, "Paradis Perdu" launched her career and propelled her to the centre stage. In the following years, she became one of the leading-ladies of french cinema, alongside Michèle Morgan and Danielle Darrieux. In the meantime, she pursued her career in the United States where she met her second husband, actor and producer William Marshall, with whom she eventually had a daugther, the only female screenwriter Cesar-winner Tonie Marshall (for whom she played in ''Venus Beauty''). At the end of the 1960's, she stared in the succesfful TV-series "Les Saintes Chéries".During a career spanning 9 decades (!), she played alongside the most famous actors and actresses of her time, including Gerard Philippe ("The Devil in the Flesh", 1947), Paul Newman ("The Prize", 1963), Marcello Mastroiani ("L'assassino", 1961), Gina Lollobrigida, Alain Delon, Lino Ventura (and even @Book's favorite, Liselotte Pulver !), becoming herself a legend of french cinema. At the time of her death she was the doyenne of French cinema and occupied the 4th spot of our common list, becoming also our 4th hit and leaving 6 centenarians left. Given the current state of affairs, it is doubtful that there will be that many left at the end of the year…

Portuguese coach Artur Jorge has died aged 78. He notably led Porto to its first European Cup in 1987 and Paris Saint Germain to its second French Champion title in 1994. A great loss for FC Porto and PSG fans (like me).

The decline in health services is a result of Government policies over the last few decades. But I'm sure that Covid has left its mark by indirectly killing people with other conditions who would have survived their illness if they had been diagnosed and/or started treatment earlier.

Of course you don’t understand the implications of this, because if you did, you would have understand that there is none. Hence, you would have figured by yourself that it’s worthless posting

Possibly, but I wouldn't be completely certain that Labour pick it up. It's a very White Working Class seat with a strong military background. It's difficult to say with Mercer as he's quite divisive, but possible he gets a better than average incumbency bonus. I can see a scenario where Labour get a majority of say 40/50 and this seat just about holds on for the Tories, whereas less marginal targets may perish. It all depends on where you think Labour's swing is going to come from, is it likely to be greater or lesser in amongst demographic groups which have been trending away from them since at least 2010? Might well be big enough swing to make the distinction a moot one in Mercer's case but it is dangerous to call an election this far out (2017 anyone?).

It's a well known fact that to be a DL member, you must be Scottish, LGBT+ and/or neurodivergent. Anyone else is very likely an impostor.
