I did consider changing the name of the pool when I took over, but I decided against it for two reasons. Firstly because this is what it has been called from day 1, and is known to all and sundry as the Hares pool, so I didn't feel it would be right to change it at this stage. And secondly because I have never liked the Tortoise in that story. Smug little talentless bastard. "Slow and steady wins the race". No it doesn't - fast and strong and not being a obnoxious prick like the Hare wins the race. You just got lucky, you slow horrible shelly fucker, so pipe down, take your "win" and piss off.

Glenn T. Seaborg died on this day 25 years ago, aged 86. - Seaborg majored in chemistry, and received a PhD in 1937. He coined the term "spallation" (the process of particles ejecting from an object due to a collision) in his doctoral thesis. He would work at the lab at the University of California Berkeley for his entire life. - Seaborg's first synthesis of a new chemical was the iron-59 isotope, followed by iodine-131. Both of these isotopes have been prominently used for medical purposes - However, Seaborg is best known for his discoveries/co-discoveries of many elements with over 90 protons (and therefore often synthesized by him)- in order, they were: plutonium (1940), americium (1944), curium (1944), berkelium (1949), californium (1950), einsteinium (1952), fermium (1952), mendelevium (1955), nobelium (1958)- and one more in the following factoid. - In 1974, Seaborg assisted in the synthesis of element 106. In 1994, this element would be named "seaborgium" after him, making him the first living person to have an element on the periodic table named after them (the second was Yuri Oganessian with oganesson being named in 2016): For his contributions, Seaborg would be awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1951. - Besides these discoveries, Seaborg was also instrumental to the Manhattan Project, being the first person to isolate a plutonium isotope from uranium atoms, allowing mass production of plutonium for the Fat Man bomb. - Seaborg was also somewhat of an alchemist- he managed to remove protons and neutrons from bismuth atoms to turn them into gold atoms.

Re Clem Clempson, I remember reading The NME Book of Rock (1975) and thinking facetiously that people were very into personnel back then, because so many bands' entries were accounts of what other bands the members had been in. But the other week I saw a mid-80s interview with John Peel, and it seems that was actually true - he said how in the years before punk it was almost impossible for a band to get a record deal and promotion if they had no track record from being in other bands. So if you were forming a rock outfit in 1974, Clem Clempson would have been a useful man.

❗Alexei’s body was given to his mother. Thank you very much to everyone who demanded this with us. While Lyudmila Ivanovna is in Salekhard. The funeral is yet to come. We don’t know whether the authorities will interfere with carrying them out the way the family wants and as Alexey deserves. We will provide information as it becomes available. It's quite understandable that younger people, and those from outside the UK, would write off Draper as FFBI and/or celebrity spouse. Trust us, he enjoyed (if that's the right word) quite some notoriety before his marriage.

With former favourite Shane gone, Alan Alda and Dick Cheney seem the current favourites for last survivor. However, one that seems to be slipping under the radar is Angie Dickinson. I now think Dickinson, not Alda, will be the last survivor of the 2023 DL, I can see her getting into the 2030s and becoming a centenarian based on her 2023 appearances, but I won't change my vote now in the interests of fairness.

No shit; genuinely sick. Not funny - but, on the other hand, when Lloyd Honeyghan was mugged outside the family florists shop by schoolgirls who stole flowers, that was a real laugh
