Personally, I think Yahoo makes the game more interesting as it allows for a more diverse set of picks, by allowing for more unique hits and international hits as well. Without it I could see the game becoming even more UK focused and an over reliance on safe 'drop 40' picks from casuals.

I can answer the why. When I co-ran the DDP we tried to make it as democratic as possible and a whole bunch of players asked for it. The list of qualifying obits was expanded greatly as people who ought to score under the rules (actors, Nobel prize winners) weren't and this got a lot of complaints. (Indeed, you might recall a Carrie Hamilton situation which cost you a third DDP title a number of years ago.) This is why the Radio Times and Economist are there despite never producing a necessary QO. Because one day they feasible might. Anyhow it was a correction to the rather stricter QO rules a predecessor put in place where DDP picks could get BBC obits and not get a qualifying obit. I am unsure as to the success of the Yahoo qo loophole. I am aware it has been claimed to be abused (though imo that's a ffbi issue) and I have no say in future rule changes, thankfully. However if you were to show me a list of DDP hits that only got yahoo obits and there was politicians, actors or scientists on that list then I would stand by it doing exactly what it was intended to do.

After Charlotte Kretschmann's death, Marita Camacho Quiros enters the Top 20 of oldest living people. At the age of 113:172 she is the 3rd-oldest ever person notable for reasons other than longevity, behind only paediatrician and co-developer of the pertussis vaccine Leila Denmark (114:060) and oil painter Hatsuno Goto (113:256). Goto's notability for reasons other than longevity is questionable as her notability is partly connected to age and not so important (becoming an oil painter as an elderly woman).

Come on people! Teardrops is much better than the very average Kim Wilde song.

Another self-opinonated dick tbh. Quite why the ability to pen a few tunes means we should pay more attention to their opinions, particularly political ones, than those of others has always eluded me, see also, actors.....

Agreed. I’m not against plagiarism per se, either conscious or unconscious, it’s just what you do with it. Oasis being popular doesn’t make them good or interesting in my eyes (which is obviously another can of worms). One of Noel’s idols, Paul Weller has often borrowed bits and pieces, but to me usually more inventively than Noel. I’d occasionally bring a song to a rehearsal and another band member would say it reminds me of such and such, which I’d only then realise, so accidental plagiarism is certainly a thing.

The joy of the film Yesterday where Beatles don't exist other than from Himesh Patel's mind, is that Oasis don't exist because of their influence.

Liam Gallagher was the support for the Stones when they played London Stadium in 2018. We didn't bother to go in, sat eating burritos outside.

I've been thinking about this all day and I really can't say for sure which celebrity death I can remember first. I always think of Grace Kelly, I was only 7 when she died. The pictures of this beautiful woman on TV, so young, so tragic, the daughter in the car, that was all impressive... but I'm not really sure, as I said... Romy Schneider died 4 months earlier, I must have been aware of that, but I don't remember.
