4 pointsI've been wanting to create this thread for a while... We've all heard of Bryan Johnson, the millionaire who is doing everything to reverse his aging: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Johnson Well, he was on a book tour in India and experienced throat and eye burn there: https://in.mashable.com/culture/86052/age-reversing-millionaire-flags-serious-health-situation-in-mumbai-my-throat-and-eyes-burn He seems destined to die of something rather stupid, or even get cancer from all the supplements he takes. Still, I've been interested in him and the anti-agers in general and wonder if there's something to it or not. There's actually a ranking of all of them, i.e. who rejuvenates the most (Bryan Johnson is currently 5th): https://www.rejuvenationolympics.com/ So I'd like to have place to document their failures (or successes). A very long-term thread.

4 pointsThe US's longest-living heart transplant recipient, Larry Pleau, has died. He suffered a massive heart attack in 1985 aged 41, and received a transplant on his 42nd birthday. He died over the weekend, aged 80.

4 pointsThe irony of Bryan Johnson is he's trying not to age, but in the process has made himself look older than his actual age of 47. Looked great in 2015, looks like a freak now. The key to ageing well is don't fuck about with your face and body too much, drink alcohol moderately, eat sensibly, don't smoke, exercise and drink tons of water. Honestly, that's all there is to it. Having good genes helps too ofc but that's outside your control.

3 pointsScatman John died on this day 25 years ago, aged 57. - John's full name was John Larkin. Born with a severe stutter, he would learn to play piano and would mitigate the effects of his stutter by scatting along to the works of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. - John would emigrate to Germany in 1990, and his agent would decide to modernize scat by having him sing over Eurodance beats. In 1995, John would release the Scatman's World album, headed by his autobiographical single "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)": The song reached number 1 in several countries, including Canada, France, Ireland and Spain. Nowadays, the song is considered to be a meme, mostly due to being affiliated with early YouTube Poop videos (circa 2006-2007): Also on the album was the titular "Scatman's World", which has also entered meme status: - John would make two more albums afterwards: Everybody Jam! in 1996 (notably featuring a scat cover of Queen's "The Invisible Man"), and Take Your Time in 1999. - Scatman John was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1998, losing has battle to the disease after one year.

2 pointsPersonally I reckon Tom Baker is a more 2026 candidate and not 2025. I can see Tom going downhill very quickly though.

2 pointsPerhaps rather than trying to shut people like Brad down because he doesn’t share your worldly view, you should tell us why Hunter deserves a pardon. Or indeed maybe a talking point for the Americans should be *why* their head of state should even be allowed to have such a powerful function that overrides the natural process of the justice system in the first place.** **At the political rants and discussions thread ofc – none of this is particularly relevant to Sleepy Joe’s health and thus off topic here.

1 pointCharli XCX at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. Wow. Wow wow wow wow. Telling my grandkids I was there. Charli will be the first to admit that she's not a good singer and relies on autotune, but her lack of raw talent meant nothing here. That was the best crowd I've ever seen (I'm full of superlatives for this one; it was really, really good). She had no backup dancers, no groundbreaking staging gimmicks, the budget was spent on 2 big wrinkled curtains and a showerhead, yet she had the crowd in the palm of her hand for the entire runtime. I'm proud of my city. I've also never seen so many members of the LGBT community in one space. A twink came up to me and told me I look like Paramore guitarist Taylor York. Then, I went to a club with 7 new lesbian friends and watched strippers in chartreuse green outfits pouring water over each other to the tune of "you wanna guess the colour of my underwear". I did 31,000 steps tonight.

1 pointI love how a thread about Camilla Park and Ride has transcended into a discussion of other dogs.

1 pointIf leukemia has turned acute he is done. The phrasing is very similar to what they said about Silvio Berlusconi three days before his death from the same ailment.

1 pointNope. You're putting words in my mouth and complicating what I said in order to weaken the argument. I don't believe in presidential pardons – period. They're unjust and very outdated. I do however believe in democracy, and despite Trump being convicted of one (of many) of the things they threw at him, he was elected in a landslide anyway. Don't like it? Fine. That's well within your right to do so. You're allowed to protest and bitch about that result. You're also allowed to move elsewhere. But don't try and pretend that a pardon sanctioned by one individual vs. the consent of the nation are equally weighted – because they're really not.

1 pointDoubt it. Americans don’t typically vote in the same party for 12 years running. Also, voters tend to have short term memories.

1 pointThere still seems to be a problem here. Somehow all my picks are still under @ladyfiona’ ‘s name on the top of list. @WEP had corrected it earlier today, yet somehow it went back to ladyfiona’s name. Also I have Wole on my list. The rest of Fiona’s names seem fine so far. I advise you choose a new name under literature before the best picks are taken. Literature: Wole Soyinka (see theoldlady’s list please.)
