10 pointsDeadliness Is Next to Godleyness Janey Godley has died of ovarian cancer at the age of 63. Her claims to fame include a 30-year stand-up career, holding a sign that says TRUMP IS A CUNT, and dubbing Nicola Sturgeon's Covid briefings to make her threaten to stick a toe up the crack of your arse. The unexpected popularity of this niche fetish pornography resulted in the Scottish government hiring her to face a "stop the spike" campaign in 2021, exhorting people with large numbers of friends (not deadpoolers) to avoid large social gatherings. Unfortunately, this gave people more time to sit inside searching Twitter for "from:janeygodley 50 cent", and she lost her role in a Beauty and the Beast pantomime after old racist tweets resurfaced via The Daily Beast, the web's foremost news source for Beauty and the Beast-related controversies. A few months later, on the advice of her agent, she developed terminal cancer – making her a popular pick on the Derby Dead Pool – but she continued to live life to the full, touring and picking fights on Twitter – making her a popular pick on the Inverse Dead Pool. And now she's dead – making her an extremely unpopular pick on the Inverse Dead Pool. What hath Godley wrought? Our 47 Godley botherers include all 5 players who were on 0 points – @wannamaker and @The Old Crem (both now 6th place with 14 points), @MariNisia (8th with 16 points), @machotrouts (IS A CUNT), and @Pedro67 (12th with 21 points). 6 pointsIt's also the highest I've been for a while, a different kind of height. I think this might be one of my worst results ever! But you can see at the beginning of this thread that I was very confident that stage IV cancer had become more manageable, so that I didn't expect Toby Keith, Dario G., Shannen Doherty and Janey Godley to die... turns out...cancer still kills.

3 pointsReminding of this again. Yoko was horribly frail, wheelchairbound with a blanket in her last public appearance at a women's march back in January 2019. Of course Sean still occasionally insists that she is in perfect health, but Sean Lennon is a liar and a nutjob. The Yoko Ono twitter, FB and instagram accounts say in the description that they are "administered by Yoko's office, Studio One", there's probably a team crafting those posts. If you browse her twitter, especially John's death day post and the birthday posts for Ringo, Sean, Paul and others are usually copies from the previous year. LBD average life expectancy is 5-7 years, she's on year 8. It would in no way suprise me if she's hooked up to machines in some horrible state and being kept alive by family.

3 pointsAmerican actor Thom Christopher (Wiki) dead at 84 Best known for his ABC's TV Show One Life to Live, which was nominated 5 time and won only once a Daytime Emmy Award. Also appeared in movies like Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, Selena and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

3 pointsWhatever you think of Ono as an artist and especially a singer hearing in such stark terms who much she clearly loved John is heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measure.I would bet she is in frail health based on everything I read but Sean is clearly holding his cards close to his chest on how she is.In his situation I would do the same but do I think she is very poorly behind the scenes?Probably but at nearly 92 that isn`t remarkable.I was never sure how she made the Drop 40 as early as she did. After the rumours this year I get it but before that just baffles me.

2 pointsComparing her social media now to a decade ago it's clearly not the same person. Sean Lennon is nuts but any public comments about his mum have to be read through the prism of the family guarding her privacy fiercely. In private as above and elsewhere it's acknowledged Yoko is very poorly and tbh a few folk closer to them are surprised she's hung on as long as she has.

2 pointsThe funeral cortege will begin at Newport Pagnell services, career down the fast lane of the M1 at 90mph, jackknife on black ice causing a massive crash blocking the motorway in both directions, leading to a 15-mile traffic jam, before pulling into Watford Gap two days later.

2 pointshttps://people.com/amber-heard-expecting-second-baby-exclusive-8707364 No one has Amber Heard, but the rumor was always that the first child was a donor by Elon Musk, so this one would likely be too. I wish it'd get confirmed.

2 pointsHere are my hits from my original list and Jacques Roubaud is ACTUALLY my 18th hit on my original list. Don Murray Jean Malaurie Allen J. Bard Johan Galtung Malachi McCourt Byron Janis Thomas Stafford Lou Conter Whitey Herzog Bud Anderson Parnelli Jones Vic Seixas Maria Branyas Selim Hoss June Spencer Lou Donaldson Roy Haynes Jacques Roubaud Next time, if I have someone planned to be on my list for 2026 that passes away in 2025, I will NOT count this as an early hit so I can be more honest next year. I am learning my lesson from this. I am going to show you that I can be more honest next year by only including hits on my original list for 2025 or whatever year I am in and not count someone on next year's list as an early hit.

2 pointsSeem quite ill: Carter - We all know at this point. DVD - Said to be rapidly declining in September (but has made appearances since). Possibly suffers from some condition you usually have at nearly 99. Pete Murray - Looked horrible with purpleish arms and bandages on hands many years ago. Now doing better, somehow? Alan Greenspan - No appearances in more than a year. Seems to have had a hard decline, but that was some time ago. Pope Francis - Recurring pneumonia, rumored cancer, tons of health problems. Feels indestructible. Cleo Laine - Has looked horrible for years. Sandy Gall - Looked unrecognizable in 2021. Last appearance anywhere in 2022, AFAIK. Noam Chomsky - Massive stroke last summer. Paralyzed and probably tubefed. Robert Wagner - COPD and 94. Would be an amazing pick in normal circumstances. Dennis Skinner - Cancer survivor, major heart problems, falls and allegedly dementia. Nigel Starmer-Smith - Years with end-stage dementia of the bruce willis type. James Whale - Cancer for ages, 15 tumors, on the last type of chemo available. Stanley Baxter - In a care home for years, probably suffering from dementia. Joanne Woodward - Alzheimer's for sixteen years. Clint Eastwood - Decrepit and has been said to suffer from heart problems. Vanessa Redgrave - Emphysema and heart attack etc. One of those people who DLees seem to have expected to die within 6 months back a few years ago. Gene Hackman - Severe heart problems since 1990, frail as fuck as drol mentioned above. Jean-Marie Le Pen - Heart attack, pulmonary oedema in the past and stroke. Heart failure sufferer. Denis Law - Mixed dementia for years. Hans Blix - Spent weeks in ICU with tick-borne encephalitis some years ago. Frail, housebound, still ill but still relatively active. Tom Brokaw - Multiple myeloma for years, severe infections, 24/7 care, ultrafrail. Linda Nolan - Cancer with metastases everywhere. Dying for 7 years now. Norman Tebbit - Heart problems, in a motorized wheelchair, ghoulish. Willie Nelson - Emphysema for ages, nearly died from covid around two years ago. Esther Rantzen - Terminal lung cancer. Roberta Flack - ALS at eighty fucking seven. There's a post on facebook on someone visiting her back in the summer and it sounded like she didn't have much time left and might've not been lucid anymore. Prunella Scales - Dementia for more than a decade. I fully believe the end could be near now that Timothy is dead. Brigitte Bardot - Severe heart and respiratory problems. Imelda Marcos - Heart problems, diabetes, ministrokes etc. ICU hospitalisation earlier this year. Ted Turner - Must've be past the average life expectancy of LBD by now. Buzz Aldrin - On oxygen in his most recent appearance and looks fucking horrible. Sonny Rollins - Pulmonary fibrosis for fucking ages and has outlived all expectancies by now. Sly Stone - COPD and other serious health problems. Tom Baker - Looks ghoulish, in and out of hospital earlier. Seems more stable now, but I don't think many would be suprised if he died sometime soon. Don't seem to be doing that bad: Mel Brooks - 98. Health-wise not much to say. Patricia Routledge - Doing great for 95. Desmond Morris - Looked pretty great in January. As great as you can at 96. Julie Walters - Seems to be doing fine now. Louis Farrakhan - Doing quite fine, somehow. Barenboim - Doesn't seem to be dying that urgently. 5-year survival for vasculitis seems still quite high. Dick Cheney - Has a near-Jayapatakaian health history, but very stable for 10 years now. Robert Duvall - Yawn. Not much health history. Josef Fritzl - I don't fucking believe he actually has dementia. Raul Castro - Suffering from pancreatic dementia since 1910 and/or already died fifty years ago if you believe dissidents, but still well enough to regularly attend events. Joe Bugner - Dementia but in relatively good physical condition atleast last year. The list is most definitely not "full of random healthy nonagenarians" as some have claimed. Misses and the bitching about them are inevitable for 2025 but it will a pretty good year.

2 pointsHi everyone - wasn’t sure where to post this but here seems as good a place as any. After a few false alarms I am finally being made redundant on 31st December and at 56 and a half I plan to try and eke out a fun existence on what I have so unless I get bored my redundancy will double as my retirement. With incredible bad timing whilst I was planning to spend the next 10 years hiking all the Wainwrights and having a jolly good time my wife has been busy developing a heart condition - still awaiting a final diagnosis but she’ll be on meds forever by the sounds of it (she’s not obitable before @maryportfuncity asks). Anyway I’ve decided to also retire from Deadpooling and being a member on this site - get on living rather than monitoring who might be dying. I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive, I’ve had some great fun reading and posting on here but I also want to try and reduce the time I spend staring at a computer/phone and this site is definitely something that pulls me in. Somewhere on here there is a post by @Spade_Cooley that says something like ‘it won’t be the last one’ when I won the Hares Pool. In actual fact as it turned out it was my one and only. Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful posts, less so to those of you who are obsessed with old and obscure people, and also to those of you who have run the Dead Pools on here that I have very much enjoyed taking part in. I wish you all many happy years living and deadpooling until, like me, you have tired of it (deadpooling) and wish to fill your lives with something new. I’ll still be around until 19th but I won’t be entering a team in this year’s DDP - I think that site and the people who maintain it is amazing and a real labour of love. Take care you wonderful bunch of strangers! Cheers, GUN

1 pointThank you for everything @Grim Up North You are a good and valued member of this forum. Wishing you and your wife all the best for the future. You'll be missed but you've made the decision that's right for you and your circumstances. Take care.
-
1 pointSo yeah, you're not done with me as DDP co-host yet. No one offered to take up the mantle, but doing slimmer obits has made things considerably easier and pretty much "TMIB redux"-proofed the front page. In fact I don't think there will be any changes for next year, rule or personnel wise, outside of acknowledging that The Times is a .com website now rather than .co.uk. The DDP 2025 thread and launch will be coming over the weekend.
